I am at computers all day & have learned to appreciate some of the keyboards I've used on other laptops - Gateway, Acer & IBM ThinkPads.

I'm just curious to know if the keyboard & spacebar sucks on all ASUS G73s or if it is just mine. I admit it . . . it doesn't really matter because I am shipping this thing back on Monday and never buying an Asus again. hehehe I'd love to know, though, if Asus has a reputation for bad keyboards.

Often, key strokes do not register hits - causing unnecessary misspellings. The space bar often won't register a hit when typing at normal speeds.

I really hope it was just this unit, and not all of yours. :)

I hope so. Although, "not that bad actually" isn't a very encouraging evaluation, either. lol.

It's a bummer - the notebook has potential for greatness. It just doesn't seem to be manufactured very well. :(

The keyboard isn't on par with IBM/Lenovo, but it's miles ahead of Acer/Gateway (same company).

I can't agree, but appreciate your opinion. :) I had a Gateway FX for 2 years before this - great keyboard. We still have one of those 18.4" Acers here - another great keyboard. Both are quick & very responsive.

These Asus keyboards feel like a snail pissing its way through mud. lol.

I have an Acer too and the keyboard quality of the Asus is considerably higher, as is everything else about the notebook. The missing keystrokes don't appear to be the keyboards fault, but rather a software issue.

Software . . . didn't think of that. Is there a way to upgrade the software? Which software?

    Thanks.

I really like my JH. I love having a backlit keyboard. This is my first laptop with a backlit keyboard and I believe it will be a requirement on all my laptops from now on. Even when you get it working correctly, this isn't the best keyboard in the world. Thinkpads have an awesome keyboard, but I wouldn't trade my i7, 5870m, and 8GB of RAM for anything Lenovo sells. Now with the dropped keys under control I would say the keyboard is pretty ok. That's the technical term. :)

Thank you, Chastity. I would try the fixes, but I realize I still want to RMA this thing because of other issues (crackling speakers, etc.). I'm glad that ASUS is addressing the keyboard issue, though.

Hi! I've looked for this bios, but Winflash says it's not suitable for my G73JW (for H type only?).
I'm experiencing some missing keystrokes with my G73JW (only a few: to be honest, i don't know if the reason is my unfamiliarity with my new laptop' keyboard...).
So, is there some new bios upgrade for G73JW, or other fix (i've just updated drivers) ?
Thanks for every useful hint and greetings to all the forum.
    Alex

p.s.:i've tried the solutions listed on this forum, but some speaker "pops" when the laptop is on silence are occourring again... any hint?

The current beta is for the JH only. Once this is pegged down, expect it to cross over to other models.
