    Hello Friends of the Forum.
Since I bought my Asus G73JW, I always wanted to put lighting in the cooler! I think that Asus should have put it already in the project, as it was Very Good!

Yesterday I had to disassemble my G73 to a replacement of thermal paste, and already got the job to put the LED in the cooler.

Below I posted some pictures and a short tutorial for those who want to make too. This differential was very good!

    ------------------------
    You will only need ..

    Wires.
High Brightness LED 5mm (3 .. 3.5 Volts) (uses the color of your choice, I used Blue)

    Tools.
multimeter, clamp, weld , hot glue gun

    -----------------------

Remember that the LED has polarity, positive (+) and negative (-)
if you are buying in electrical supply stores, ask the vendor to specify the terminals already for you.
In general the positive terminal with this cable (electrode) more fulfilled.

First, Prepare the LED Welding Wire Terminals, Remember to Leave the correct polarity.
If possible, use red wire to the positive terminal and black wire to negative terminal.

LEDs prepared now Disassemble your laptop, you will only need to remove only the top (palm rest)

Below Photos From the terminal I used the electric board to provide me with the 3.5 volts.

remember to do all the installation, with the notebook off and without the battery.

use a 3 volt battery to test the LED position, this will help in time to install the LED in the housing.

    -----------

    Hope you like it!
Sorry for any spelling error, I use Google Translator to English.

    Questions, they can ask.

(I had prepared four LEDs to use however I decided to install just 2. 1 in each of the cooler)

    Thank you!
I'll open a business so! =), They charge $ 100 to do this?? I did not spend more than 50 Cents kkkkkkk

To tell the truth, spend nothing, had everything in house = p

More modestly, this was a fairly straightforward modification and was very beautiful!
The only problem was finding a place on the motherboard to provide the 3.5 volts, Ae found the bluetooth card power.

    Until

In the future, I'll see if I put an RGB LED with a controller card, that would give me the possibility of several colors in the same LED.

    =)

Only page i found that has a guide for the vents lightings mod...
    But i did find
Light modding Notebook Asus G73JH Led blu ROG - YouTube

That youtube guy wanted me to pay him 100$ and he'll teach me how to do it, like what the eff? seriously? just for a guide? good luck ;p

So, question is, i want to ask you got any idea how to make it that lighting only goes on when AC adapters pluged in? or with your one, is it contantly on? or its turns off if you also turn off bluetooth?

    Hello
in the video, probably he turned on the LED Header Directly in power input.
Thus, when removing the connector, the LED goes out. (He used resistors to decrease the voltage to 3 volts on average.)

In my case, I took the 3 in volt propa motherboard. As the LED does not consume energy Almost anything, I had no problems.

And no, if I turn off the bluetooth LED does not fade.
He goes out only when I turn off the notebook.

So there is nothing we can do to be able to toggle it on and off?

Nice! I had the same idea.. i did it last week and was about to post something similar. I did almost the same things as you. Difference is i put 6 RED leds on each vent instead. (I cant find superbright LED's where im from so i had to make due.) Oh and I put it under the fans and took my supply from the USB. Soldered in the motherboard ^_^

    [IMG][/URL]

Oh and to answer bluedevils question: if u can find a really small enough sliding switch, you can insert one inside the kensington lock entrance and toggle it on and off from there. just to give ya an idea^_^

In my case, I chose to leave it always on, I thought it was very good and Discreet!
Previously I would put the Power Supply LED LCD.
that is, when I turn off the bar also turns off the LCD Led Led Fan

However I would need a resistor because the power of the LCD LED bar is 5 Volts.
I did not have the resistor appropriate.

    LED's usually work at 20mA

    Voltage = Current * Resistance

to get 20mA from a 5V supply just use like 250 ohms

Oh just saying for example you want to leave the laptop on while you sleep etc.
Or when you are in a dark uni lecture room, but you dont want to blind the lecturer's eyes out bahaha.

But overall i really like the lights too, and if it can be toggled by hotkeys then it would be gold, like if it turns off when scrolllock is on, and turns on when scrolllock is disabled.
But really, i think all that might be too difficult

Or somehow connect it to the keyboard leds so we can dim them and stuff. That might be great too coming to think of it. :)

Yea, i was actually thinking that.
thats why i was asking if turning off the bluetooth would turn off the LED, which doesnt ;<
    But would be totally awesome

attaching them to the keyboard light switch would be pretty awesome. but at the same time very hard since the wires are like paper thin.

Where did you ground the (-)? I see where you take the power but not where you ground it.

    Hello friend.

This bar of blue light is an LED board

it is fed by three conductors. (+ 5 volts, GND, signal)

    understand?

Thanks so much. I cant wait to do this. I had one more question. I see than you can buy a 4 pin splitter and adaptors. Would it just be simpler to connect a splitter to one of the fans power lines and then power the leds thru the spit line?

Thanks maykon_helver, I understand. just have to figure out where I would find that part. any idea on why it would fade out a bit? I've never seen a LED do that before.

Look at what has been said before, I believe that is due to the accumulation of dust.

just below the board where the LEDs that there is a blue plastic cover, dust accumulator should be there.

you can easily if necessary, remove the LCD frame and remove protection that Blue is at the bottom of the screen.
doing this, the Light Blue will get stronger, and will no longer build up of dust.

I am not sure how you'd go about doing that. it doesn't look like it's going to come off very easily as you say.

    http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/1720/bluelighto.jpg

how does that blue strip come off, do you have to take the full LCD panel off to get at that?

    I found the service manual

when you mean take the LED cover off you mean page 14 of the disassembly guide or service manual?

The mod is awesome! Though I have one thing in mind, the wires might melt when it is in contact near the gpu or the cpu in the long run.

how much voltage does the led board get? because if anything, you might be able to connect it to that and have it turn off when you turn off the board.

I just did this mod with a few of my own.. mods, I added a button in the kingston lock hole, so now the lights can be switched on and off!
