i have a asus g72gx-5bbx05 laptop , and i recently overclocked the gpu to its stock 550/900/1375

when i play modern warfare 2 the tempratures goes to 86~88 ,

when it is not overclocked (factory settings) the tempratures will be 85~86

so is that dangerous ? will it harm my gpu ?

there are alot of threads on this. google them to find more answers.
max temp for a gpu 105C is danger zone. 80-90 is ok ideal is around 80 or less. Mine is about 81C max. Remember to make sure your laptop i not flat on a table but has a book lifting it off the table about 1-2cm at the back. remember not to block the vents when doing this. also a laptop cooler fan is pretty essential in my opinion for gaming on laptops. zalman NC2000 or I hear a better one from cool master infinity range. I have zalman and am very happy with it. it should reduce your temperatures by 5 degrees C. There are also two programs to monitor temps and load. GPU-z and cpuid HWmonitor. both free google them.

If you get 86~88C only while playing games, I wouldn't worry about that much unless your idle temp is also high.

There is a guide how to use RivaTuner somewhere in the forum. Some also recommend 186.82 or 197.45 NVIDIA drivers which downclock your video card @idle. The temp still might go up high @load unless you repaste the video card heatsink though. But, I'm not sure as I'm no expert.

I repasted mine, but it still goes up to 86~88C while playing games. Before repasting, the temp hit 94C once while playing Fallout 3. My idle temp seems to be lower now though. But, it kind of fluctuates (51~62C). Right now, it's 59C. It's a bit high for the idle temp, but my laptop is connected to an external 23" 1920 x 1080 monitor. So, it usually runs about 7~8C higher.

I tried both 186.82 and 197.45 drivers and my laptop seemed to be running much cooler. However, PowerMizer somewhat conflicts with audio occasionally (clicks, pops etc...), so I'm using a stock driver which came with my laptop originally.

Highest temp I've ever seen on mine is 96 ( I promptly downclocked and exited Crysis)

Average idle with no outside cooling, only case fans is about 65 C. Average temp in COH:ToV on all high 1440x900 is 80 C. Average temp during 3dMark06 run 85 C.

I believe that Crysis heats me up so much because of physics processing being handled partially by the GPU.

Another thing that will help a lot with temps is simply propping the back of the latop about 3 inches. I don't have any external active cooling but a propping cooled me down about 5 c

Another thing that helps temps is underclocking, when I am not gaming or doing anything intensive on my computer I run my GPU at 125/312/200 and CPU at 1.5 Ghz. My computer is actually cool to the touch with these settings.

I run a 360m which is pretty much the same thing and I get about 82-86 while playing fallout new vegas on a perfectly flat surface, anything over 90 is what I worry about and what people I've seen on here saying to keep it under.

Another thing I will be trying is applying some small copper ram heat sinks to the internal heatsinks within the laptop (see attached image, taken from Ren7egade)

Just completed an hour long session of COH:ToV on all high, 1440x900 max temp 79 C, min 58 avg 75. AVG FPS 55

I don't run the clocks in my sig for normal gaming, I OC my CPU to about 2.7 and my GPU is 550/950/1375 when I game.
