Hey I decided to jump the gun and further overclock my gtx 460m on stock cooling (no cooling pads) and stock paste
my clocks of the 460m are now (stable after some time in Crysis 2)
core - 850
shader - 1700
memory - 1600
I decided to see how it well it would play on games, so i launched crysis 2 and put it on 1080p and Hardcore settings
played a bit (15mins in of intense shooting) and recorded my temps with HWMonitor
GPU hit a max of 80 and cpu hit a max of 81-82
Now before with lowered overclock speeds, I hit a max of 85 on the same settings with Crysis 2
but all of a sudden once i boosted it further, it lowered itself?
sidenote: those are the max speeds I can so far, anything further and the driver stops working.

That is weird the temps went down after overclocking, definitely opposite of what you'd think would happen.
I'd suggest comparing temps using the same program. Running different games could be whats causing the difference. Get 3D Mark Vantage then use that to test temps while adjusting clocks. That will be more of a consistent stress put on the gpu. -
Tested it with Dirt 3 on 1080p with all high and couple ultra settings and playing it at around 46-50fps
temp hit a max of 79.
I dont get it >_> lol..
I think I hit the sweet spot for my card, more power and less heat, go figure. -
more testing needs to be done before arriving at a conclusion

I doubt that this would be a result that would occur across the board. You are probably just lucky with your specific unit
Congrats
overclocking 460m = lower temps?
