I just installed a brand new t9800 cpu in my asus g50v however within 10mins of windows starting up I get a BSOD error, I did update the bios to the most recent version 213 and made sure all my drivers etc were updated before the install. The error is as follows.....

    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen

    OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1

    Locale ID: 1033

    Additional information about the problem:

    BCCode: 124

    BCP1: 0000000000000000

    BCP2: FFFFFA8005DCB038

    BCP3: 00000000B6200114

    BCP4: 000000002902010A

    OS Version: 6_1_7600

    Service Pack: 0_0

    Product: 256_1

Is there anything I did not do correctly? is it because the t9800 requires more power? any help would be greatly appreciated as I spent alot of money on the cpu and are really clueless as what to do

Did you remove the RAM when you upgraded? try changing the RAM slots around and restarting.

If the Mobo can handle the CPU you should not need to adjust the power as it should automatically adjust itself what CPU did you have before?. How are the temps? Did you have any overclocking set up before changing it? turbo mode for instance?

The CPU I had before was the stock 2.0ghz dual core that came with the g50v. I did not remove the ram when installing the CPU however I will try switching them around. My idle temp is 38f. I didn't do any kind of overclocking. Thanks for the advice, it's so frustrating to spend the money on the CPU, wait two weeks for it to arrive then it doesn't work.

Pop into Device manager and uninstall the CPU driver and let it reinstall. Might still be registering as the old CPU.

To be honest it could just be the CPU timings or something simple that will correct itself, have you had any BSOD since the initial one? When I replaced mine I had several BSOD for no reason at all and after shifting the RAM around it started up fine and never had a problem again. As long as you replaced everything as it should be ok if not tear it apart and repaste again and replace everything.

It stopped loading windows, I decided to do a fresh install which I realize now was pretty stupid as it cut out halfway through the install. I'm going to replace the old CPU, reinstall windows and then try again. Will let you knOwnhow it goes, thanks

Hmm to me I dunno it might be the CPU is it a refurb or second hand one thats been overclocked? that could have issues even so it should not be preventing a reinstall of windows might be an idea to send it back and get a replacement you could have a DOA on its way right there.

it's a brand new cpu, I reinstalled windows 7 and I'm still getting bsod error. I ran the intel diagnostic tool in safe mode the cpu passes everything but it states that it cannot find the driver for it. I've tried removing the drivers updating but nothing works. Only in safe mode do i get no bsod. Anytime I boot into windows it gets bsod after 2 mins. I wish I could find a direct download link for the proper driver but all intel has is their driver update utility on their site which hasn't worked

Is it an Engineering Sample (ES) version of the CPU? If so, the higher end Core 2 chips have been known to be a little flaky.

finally got it figured, win 7 was loaidng the wrong driver for the processor, it was using the intelpms driver. Now everything is running perfectly with no BSOD errors. Thanks everyone for the advice. Is it wise to try overclocking the t9800 or would it not be worth it since it's 2.93ghz and the step up to 3.2ghz would be minimal?
