You should probably consider returning it. I wouldn't try fixing it yourself - that may not end well.

I'm sorry, it was an eBay deal, I can RMA it but that would take 25 days! :( Any suggestions?

From the RMA guide I just linked:
If you have a refurb the warranty terms may be different, I'm not really sure.

Make sure you leave bad feedback I have only ever had one bad pixel in a screen I dont see how it can have 6 and they not tell you. Return to the person through ebay if I were you if you paid by paypal your covered.

If it's a sealed box there's no way for the seller to know it had problems. You can open a dispute and see if that gets you anywhere. To start you can contact the seller through ebay and see how they respond... if you leave negative feedback at the beginning you may not be met with a very good attitude from the seller.

I doubt if its an ebay deal that it would be brand new. If it has 6 dead pixels as new without it being tested then you can return it back to him because your covered under the Paypal Buyer protection and can raise a dispute in the resolution centre. Bad feedback or not they have to refund you if you paid through paypal and the item received is not as described or is damaged reseal it and return it recorded delivery if no refund after 21 days it allows you to open a dispute.

Eh, you can't file "not as described" for 6 dead pixels, unless he said 0 dead pixels.

Well it depends if its new or not, if it is new would you accept a brand new LCD with 6 dead pixels? no you would return it because its clearly not in brand new condition. If its used then the seller has to mention that in the listing which as the OP said its a 'deal' it sounds as though its a refurb or used model if they didn't mention it then the item is ''not as described'.

... Actually, 6 dead pixels is still considered "new" by just about every vendor. Asus has a zero bright dot (no dead pixel) guarantee on their new units, sold by an authorized vendors.

I did not say its not acceptable I know thats its acceptable to most manufacturers and that some even have a zero policy on dead pixels what I said was would you as the buyers opinion accept an LCD with 6 dead pixels if it was suppose to be in new condition. No of course not, so the OP has every right to return it.

I would just contact the seller first to see what he's willing to do about it, before contacting eBay or PayPal. If the seller page never says "0 deadpixel guaranteed!", you can't file for "fraud" A.K.A. "not as described", but you certainly can get PayPal to refund the money. Seriously though, if it was sealed with the ASUS tape when you got it, I would just RMA it if the seller is unwilling to do a return and give him a negative feedback and leave it at that. This is just my view on it since he wouldn't know if there's any deadpixel at all unless it was opened. ASUS will pay for 2-way shipping so it's not too much trouble, just make sure you send it to California and not the one in Indiana.

I dunno why but those words Asus and RMA always send a shiver down my spine...past experiences maybe :D

You may pixel free upon return of the laptop but that may be due to the screen not being present when you turn it on :p

If I had the exact same screen, would it be hard to swap them out? I mean a screen from the G73 laptop to a G73 laptop... would this be to hard?

When I swapped mine I found it easier to do than repasting to be honest its the same dissaembly procedure upto when you remove the screen.

There are few things you need to be careful of but its pretty straight forward once you get the screen off there are few threads on this forum that give you some more information.

Here is the dissassembly link ( crack it open at your own risk of course) YouTube - Asus G73Jh & g73jw Disassembly

wow, lol I dont wanna do that, I was thinking of swapping G73 screens with bazel and all. Would this be easy to do, since the screen and lid all stay together?

You will have to rip off the keyboard and palmrest along with quite a few other things if you wanted to swap the screen and lid as one piece.

Removing the screen itself is actually quite abit easier as i have done both numerous times :).

Yeah, removing just the screen is as easy as removing 6 or so screws. Because that's about the most effort involved, lol.

so I'm gonna RMA the notebook, I'll have to pay for shipping but my brother iun law works for fedex, $16 for overnight to ASUS! I'm just not sure how safe it is, sending my notebook like that?? What repair center should I ship it to? I read on one of these threads that the one in california would be best?

    I have 2 quick questions,

    1) Is there any way I can request the LG screen? This is the generic screen.

    2) would it better to have bestbuy ship it out for $35? At least then some one is held accountable?

    any one?? lol

No need to bump fella there are a lot of posts on here for people to get through we can see yours is in bold :D

Best thing you can do is to contact ASUS to find out your nearest RMA centre and register it for repair thus costing you less to post and requiring less distance for it to travel. Either way they are going to rip it apart so just make sure its packaged properly and bubble wrapped and you will be fine. (Remove your HDD if you dont want to lose your Data) If your temps are high might be an idea to mention it they may repaste for you as well :)

What screen do you have at the moment the 1080p version? If so they will most probably replace it with exactly the same screen I dont think you can specify the make you want they will just have stock ones.

lol just waiting on you daller! your getting kinda slow old man!

I have the stock screen its not HD its like 1600x something..

My temps are crazy good, I ran Shogun TOTAL war 2 on everything ultra and it looked the the GPU wasnt even tickled!! lol I turned off the game after about an hour, and looked at speedfan, 57c :) all I did was blow out the vents in the back, should I still ask for a repaste since it's going back anyway??? I bought this laptop for $875 and works 100%! its just the screen now, and since its still under warrenty untill may, I think the seller did ok, he has helped me out a bunch and even sent me the best buy receipt.. this man paid about $1300 not to long ago!

This may be but my good looks remain with my old age :)

Thats some good news then at least test your temps while gaming if you like with HWINFO32 you can just run it in the background and check the max temps on the sensors after playing a game for a while but to be honest anything upto 98oC on any part of the GPU is acceptable the 5870 with stock paste tends to run a little warm. 57oC at idle on stock sounds about right.

Its a shame that you have got a pants screen but its always something I picked up mine second hand for 600GBP so about the same as you and my problems were the temps, the sticky mouse problem and old BIOS you just have to spend a bit of time sorting it out because its a great laptop. Have you got onto BB or ASUS yet? speak to them and find out the best way forward as your under warranty.

I had the 1600x900 too because mine is a US BB version I upgraded to 1080p you might get lucky when they replace it ya never know :)

my thing is with best buy, if I dont get my laptop back, I have some one to complain to, if I just send it off to asus and I never see it again, what do I do? lol

also again, do you know what service center I should send it to? I read there is 2 and one of them is the better one, I just cant seem to find that thread..

my temps are about 40-45c doing nothing about about 80c when playing shogun total war 2 on ultra....
