Hi, my computer was crashing at night when idling randomly and it pointed to the video card drivers. So i uninstalled them, did driver sweep and downloaded the new ones from the ati site. Now when i install the catalyst it doesnt install the drivers leaving it as Standard VGA compatible card in the device manager. Can someone link me to the drivers that asus provides for this card.

    Thank you

11.3 has known issues when installing its best after driver sweeping to install 11.2 and then upgrade to 11.4 preview drivers. Ive been playing about with 11.3 but it does not seem to agree with my JH and 11.4 shows significant improvements in many areas that 11.3 does not.

    AMD Catalyst 11.2 Driver download

Then just install the 11.4 preview drivers the latest is 30/03/11 i believe. It will show in CCC as 11.2 but will be using the drivers from the 11.4 package.

I had a similiar issue. Ok start from scratch.

Go into control panel and uninstall CCC.

Go into device manager and remove the driver and tick delete software drivers

Run a Drive cleaner/sweeper and kick ALL the ATI files in the butt and then restart.

Let it install the standard VGA driver upon windows loading.

Install 11.2. Restart once the install has completed. Install 11.4. Restart if it says to.

Make sure you are installing the correct drivers 5800's series mobility win 7 64.

Ok well do what I did then I dont know why and cant explain it but changing the driver location when installing worked for me just change it when you install to Program Files x86 instead of Program Files and see if that works.

You should get a message when its installing the actual driver that the screen may flicker and it should give you an option to restart straight after its finished installing. Thats when mine worked if its still a no go I will have to access more of my brain and have a ponder but that is normally only for special occasions :p

All I can say to you is rinse and repeat until it does I dont know why its not working for you but there must be something that is causing it to bybass the actual driver but allow CCC to install. You could try the factory drivers from the Asus driver website they sometimes work when the ATI ones dont.

If not a Driver specialist on here might be able to add to the info I have given you but apart from the factory drivers im all out of ideas fella sorry.

I had similar issues, and I am not a novice on video card driver installation! Even with using driver sweeper, safe mode, ccleaner, et al the catalyst would not recognise the 5870 and install the driver. Was very strange and wasted about an hour with all the rebooting, reinstallation attempts etc.

Strangely, the most recent 11.4 driver ended up installing fine, recognising the card no problems. This was after doing all the usual removal of CCC, rebooting safe mode, ccleaner, Driver sweeper etc. The first 11.4 preview driver did not recognise the card and refused to install the driver (check by selecting custom install and then seeing if it is going to install the video driver) but the most recent 11.4 worked perfectly (30/03/11 ).

I have never had problems like this before, seems like the 11.2 and up are a bit strange in their identification of the ASUS 5870. On my machine the 11.2 will not detect the card and install the driver no matter what I tried, whereas the 30/3/11 11.4 worked great when using same procedure.

When I go to the drivers in device manager I see it has 8.683.0.0 is this the best driver?

Stupid question: What link/page did you use to download the driver? (And don't tell me "I got it from the AMD page." An actual link is required.)
