The G73 superb cooling which most owners don't even need it. But if you do for extreme benchmark/testing use a portable AC or zalman 2000/3000.

didn't someone say a fan is useless for the g73 since it sucks air from... well, the top and not really the bottom (ram).

LOL this has been discussed SO many times since before anyone even had the machine in their hands :)

Those bottom vent holes are there for a reason, and there is air draw there as well as other places from the fans.

Pick a cooler that blows upward, not sucks downward.

Several people here have reported better temps with a cooler. I'm personally happy with the temps without one. Whether adding a cooler is worth it is going to vary widely depending on the individual.

Another vote here for Zalman. Nice construction, with aluminum on the top of the base.

Don't mean to HiJack this thread, but is the Zalman 2000 a quite unit? When it is on is it louder than the built in fans the G73 already has? (Could you equate it to level 1, 2 or 3 of the built in fans)? Also does 1 of the G73's usb ports supply sufficient power? Thanks, Josea

I know my Targus unit is a quiet one, just slightly more audible than G73 fans

I have the exact unit, and it is indeed quiet. However, airflow seems waay weaker then a single fan Belkin my sis has. That thing blew an Applebee's napkin clear off the cooler while the Targus doesn't move the same volume of air with 2 fans. :/

My ThermalTake Massive23 CLN0008 is usually good for a 5c degrees difference when gaming and its very quiet.

But I agree that so far the laptop always remains cool by itself so I don't always use the cooler. I had originally bought it for an older laptop that had overheating problems.

I was just curious, I will be doing some heavy heavy gaming hours on this, and just making sure this thing wont crap out on me Im gonna get a cooler for it. When im at school on integrated GPU and Low settings im sure the cooling in the machine is fine, but when sitting on my big 52 inch tv playing for like 4 + hours, or even just web browsing or something on it. Just want to make the thing last long is all and thanks for the recommendations.

at work, maybe an hour or slightly more. At home not much, since I have a kickin' desktop for that. Tho sometimes I'll get the itch for playing on the 52" downstairs, and for that I'll HDMI to the receiver for 6ch LPCM love.

Low to mid on the dial, it's quiet (1). Max on the dial is very noticable (3), but will be easily drowned out by the game.
    USB easily powers it.
