Hi I'm trying to repaste my g5j 3d but the damn thermal pads(blue kind) are holding to my gpu and processors like cement, probably dried up by the high temps, how can i remove them to be able to use the mx-4?

I've repasted lots of cpus and gpus but i've never had to deal with this stuff, how can i remove it?

Please someone tell me how to separate the processor from the cooler. This stuff won't budge

Twist a little, tiny tiny bit to loosen, and just pull straight up. Don't jam it with a screwdriver or anything... :p

And do be careful about the pins, if you bend one, you're pretty much screwed.

i'm not afraid of that cause the processor came ou of its case quite easily, my biggest concern is to separate processor and cooler without damagig the cpu

As long as you hold it correctly and take your time, you'll be fine, a CPU coming out of it's socket because of a thermal paste induced death grip is nothing new.

thanks for your reassuring words but isn't there a substance that i can put in the pads to dissolve them without hurting the cpu and gpu?

so, i've separated both the processor and the gpu from the cooler, now my question is, should i remove the blue thingys on top of the square thingys and replace them for thermal paste or should i only replace the paste over the gpu processor? IMG_20121018_140204.jpg

please help me quickly, i have a few minutes to put it back together.

So, i decided to remove the tape and to put a tiny drop of thermal paste over each square, i hope is the right option, i'll tell you later about the differences in temp..

after twenty minutes of furmark at 1366x768 without anti aliasing my maximum temp was 83. I think that's probably good, my cpu top temp was 45 ºc. are those good temperatures?

Yes, those are good temps, and you want to keep the thermal pads rather than replace them.

The pads are on the VRAM, it will likely do fine with no cooling, but just know in the future that pads are usually used when the gap between the heatsink and component is too wide for paste.
