    Hi All
I had a very small amount of coffee spill out of Starbucks cup into the left hand side of keyboard on my G73 JH BST7. I now have the left 1/3 of screen screwed up. It is kind of grayish white blend blurr. You can see faintly the image underneath, but it unusable now. Does anyone out there have an idea what might have been damaged internally? Like I said it was just a small amount of coffee that spilled into the keyboard on left side around caps lock, shift and Q,A,Z,W,S,X, keys. The computer itself still works excellent with no other problems other that the screen not showing on 1/3 left side. Here's an screen shot. Thanks in advance :)

You probably got some junk into the LVDS cable. You may be able to clean the cable but you may also need to clean the connector. Then again it could have shorted at either side. Hard to know.

When it happened, did you turn the system off immediately and pull the battery/AC?

    thanks for reply AllurGroceries
no unfortunately I didn't turn it off, but I did pull the power cord if that's any consolation. It was only small amount and I thought I cleaned it up fast enough before it penetrated under keyboard. Everything seemed fine for a few minutes and then the screen started acting up.

I'm hoping it didn't short, I can still faintly see the image under the bad side of the screen. So maybe I just junked it up like you said. I would think a short would kill the whole screen, but what do I know?? Not enough to keep the coffee away from comp.

Are you familiar with G73? How much disassembly is required to get to the LVDS cable/connection?

    thanks

Basically you need to get the keyboard and top chassis off which contains the touchpad module. Then unscrew the LCD from the hinges and the LVDS connector will be accessible. You can see it on page 13:

The G73 is notoriously finicky to disassemble, there are a number of repasting guides linked from the sticky that will give you a good handle on the process. There is also a video from BTO on youtube.

Not on a BST7, no ADW on BB models.

He might not be able to claim the warranty, but if it something minor like the LVDS cable, he might be able to get it repaired cheaply. If you decide you want to try to clean the LVDS connector, i suggest you dip the enf of the cable in some isopropyl alcohol. Cleaning the part on the motherboard will be a bit trickier, make certain to get a lint free cloth.

    I'm guessing it's time for a 1080P upgrade. That's not entirely a bad thing.
