Hello folks, I've been lurking around the forums since early July. Received my G73 on July 27th from Gentech. I just got around to running CrystalDiskMark 3.0 to see the SSD read/write speed and I was surprised and disappointed at the 4K random read/write numbers. Read is about 13 MB/s and Write is about 19 MB/s (see attachment of screen shot).

I have updated the SSD firmware with the Intel update firmware tool. The firmware is 2CV102HD. I've also moved my page file to the HDD and set it to 2048-4096. I've turned off Hibernation and System Restore.

I also did not do a clean install of windows, simply uninstalled the bloatware and ran CCleaner. Drivers so far are stock, haven't gotten around to messing with that yet.

Oh, my SSD in device manager is listed as: Intel SSDSA2M080G2GC.

Is there something I am doing wrong or haven't done to get faster random 4K read/write speed? From reading other benchmark posts (from Anandtech) it seems like I should be getting at least 30-40 MB/s. Any help would be very appreciated!

I've come to accept that a sh**ty 4K is pretty much normal with the G73.

Enable the advanced Write-Cache on the drive via Device Manager.

    It's off by default.

    Cheers,

Thanks for help guys. I've re-run CrystalDiskMark in safe mode and received the following results:

4K write speed seems about right (i also installed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver). Interesting that the read speed is so low. According to Anand's assesment, The SSD Relapse: Understanding and Choosing the Best SSD - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News, it should be around 60 MB/s or about 3 times faster than what I see in safe mode.

Kermee, I checked the write cache setting via device manager and it was already set as enabled...not sure why that was the case - i have not directly modified it since receiving the laptop. Maybe the firmware update changed the default setting there? Not sure, but the numbers i posted originally and these ones while in safe mode both had the write cache setting enabled.

Guys what driver are you using on your Intel SSD, mine has MS from 2006
    Driver version 6.1.7600.16385
IF a newer/better driver is available where can I grab it? Thanks in advance, Josea

I use the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver from Intel version 9.6.0.1014. Main reason, with Windows 7 it handles the TRIM functionality so I don't have to.

Just a quick question, does enableing the advanced Write-Cache in device manager include the 2nd option ?
So should I ''X'' it in or not?

Here's a pic of what I mean (sry its in dutch :p)
