I just order G73-XN2 from newegg and have question about installing ssd.
Installation is same like in other laptops? Just put in and run dvd's?
I have ssd from my acer which I just sold and I want to use it with this new machine.

I go to drivers download for this machine http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=G73Sw&p=3&s=252

now I have to install all 42 ?
can somebody tell me which drivers and utilities I need? Im not computer guy so I don't know everything.

Once you get the drive installed into the machine you should just be able to go from there. Obviously, you will have to install the drivers for the hardware to the machine, but otherwise you are good to go.

I am not sure of the standard BIOS setting but I thing you need to set it to ACHI (not IDE) I am using an SSD as primary and the Seagate 500 GIG drive as secondary.

Put the SSD inside the normal drive bays, and move one of your storage drives to the dvd drive bay.

Also, update to ATK Package 1.0.0008 to restore key functionality.

To have all the keys working you need ATK, P4GH, and Wifi Control 3

one of the three buttons is Splendid utility, did you install it?

    http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/Splendid/Splendid_Win7_32_64_Z1020031.zip

Also if you can't boot from DVD try hit "ESC" key when you see the Asus logo.

Also when install SSD with dual HDD it's better disable 2nd HDD during OS install or drivers installation, you can go to BIOS>security tab to disable the 2nd HDD and re-enable it back when installation is completed.

Did you copy your boot drive to the SSD, or do a clean install on the SSD?

Ah, ok I understand now what you are doing. :)

Well, for starters, I hope you have a 2nd HDD for storage.

Second, what you can do as well is download an image of the version of Win 7 you wish to install in .iso format, if you don't have one already, and install it to a blank USB Flash drive.

    http://images2.store.microsoft.com/prod/clustera/framework/w7udt/1.0/en-us/Windows7-USB-DVD-tool.exe

Use that tool to create a bootable image of the Install DVD iso on the USB Drive. When done, put the stick in your Laptop and boot up. Hit Esc and choose the USB stick to boot from. Install Windows as normal.

If you press ESC key when Asus logo comes up does it give you a option to choose a boot device?

Just a tip and this is for ALL people that upgrade to a SSD.

Never 'format' a SSD. If it is a clean drive, one you just bought, just put it in the right hand drive-bay, if you look at your machine lying upside down, put the windows 7 DVD in the DVD-drive, boot from that drive (keep hitting ESC key while your machine is booting and choose your CD/DVD drive as boot drive) and let windows 7 do the business. It will, format, align and configure the SSD correctly. If you have a 'dirty' SSD, a used one I mean, than you will have to 'secure erase' it before you do a fresh install.
Google is your friend on the 'secure erase' part. Seeing that you have an OCZ drive (like me), the OCZ forums should be a good place to look as well.

And get a good, 'clean' Windows 7 iso.

    Good luck.
