well i had the issues with the g73 mouse pad for like 3 months now, yesterday i got so mad (i was working on an important project and the mouse pad just went haywire , and i lost my temper) that i literally punched the mousepad like 4-5 time, really hard,

    results:
now it feels smoother than ever
doenst get stuck, or go hay wire or move to the right end of the screen

i hope i didnt do internal damage that i dont know of because i hit it pretty hard, altough im really happy now that the issues are gone for almost 8 hours now

must have been something stuck under the pad or something ..

NOTE: i am not encouraging any1 to do this their machine

LOL you aren't the first to have noticed this. Pushing down on the touchpad or tapping it has been mentioned in the touchpad threads. It's not a permanent solution. You're going to have to keep smacking it until you put a foam wedge or shield it. :p

Be careful when you punch your touch pad because your HDD could be right under it lol.

Its not just that though is it I know people like to game with laptops and a mouse but for me I like my laptop on my bed so I cant be using a mouse, I generally like to game with a touchpad as well I find I get more precision.

I expect arguments against this :) but its jus the principle the touchpad needs to work! Luckily most have found fixes and I have recently sorted mine out again since my HDD failed and had to reinstall is great when it finally works :D

As any regular visitor to these forums knows I have had tp issues from day one on my G73JH. I was the one that came up with the 'wedge fix', this fix definitely worked well for at least a month. Lately though I have started having failures. I think the failure is caused by the wedges compressing.

Anyway I opened the front of my machine back up and pulled the wedges out. I shined a light in and took a look to see if there was any yellow tape on the under side of the tp, there was none, some have reported that removing the tape helps.

Someone else's fix was to insert an insulating layer of something between the tp underside and the bottom of the laptop. I was thinking about this and came to the conclusion that the wedge fix might have worked because the tp no longer was in contact with the bottom side of the laptop, but failed when the foam I had in there compressed.

While I had it open this time I placed multiple business cards between the tp and the base of the laptop. I did this 24 hours ago and so far so good. Time will tell though, I am probably premature in posting this as a possible fix, others have had success with an insulating layer though so maybe it is the answer.

    i have a question
for me the touchpad works great i believe but sometimes can make some trouble (usually when using left hand or having the touchpad on your lap, knees)

so right now i am not planing to open the laptop but when i do (that would be the near future) for making repaste do you suggest removing that yellow tape ? i can only do positive effect or the opossite ?

is this the tape you are talking about
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...964-g73-touch-pad-issues-before-i-started.jpg
i don't see yellow , probably talking about the brown tapes , so just remove it?

It is easy to open the front of the laptop only, you just have to remove the three screws that come up from the bottom and then gently pry the palm rest away from the bottom half, a guitar pick works great. Once you have it open you pry up the palm rest and will see the bottom of the tp assembly. I have never taken my machine apart any further than this.

Mine does not appear to have the yellow tape, or none that it visible from looking into the front.

I do believe you will benefit from putting in the insulating layer. Your description of failures when your hand is on the left palmrest is very similar to what happens to mine.

    @Morecoffee
yeah i have seen your method but the front part doesn't come all the way right
can i be able to unpeal and clean it good that way or i should go by the instructions from BTOtech

I am not sure if the grey / brownish tape affects the tp function. The original article I read referred to yellow tape. You should try the business card idea, it only takes a few minutes to do. If that does not work, peel the tape when you have it all apart.

    All,
I just went through this process. And yes, that tape is the proper tape. I pulled the palmrest area up multiple times, put different wedges of foam tape to keep the underside of the touchpad from touching anything, and none of it did the trick. I pulled the tape off, but it left tape residue underneath.

A few days ago, I just said to hell with it and disassembled my laptop and got underneath it, and cleaned all of the tape gunk off of the silver film/cover on the touchpad. The tape gunk was very stubborn, so I don't think you'd be able to do a good enough job cleaning it without disassembly, but since doing that, my touchpad has been 100% stable. I did leave a couple of small pieces of foam tape on each side of the touchpad to give a little bit of a buffer, but I don't think it is really what's made things better since I tried multiple wedges prior to disassembly and after tape removal, and none of it worked.

It was only when I really opened things up and cleaned the bottom of the silver film and removed all of the tape gunk from it that things were resolved.

From someone who had an absolutely terrible pad to now having a 100% stable/reliable pad, disassembly is WELL worth it.

I have also upgraded to the G74 touchpad drivers posted on the support.asus.com site since my pad is all better now, and am enjoying full multitouch with 2 finger scroll and everything else now. I could NEVER have done that prior to the fix since it the constant resizing of window text and inadvertent scrolling would have driven me nuts.

Oh, I also wanted to add that a user on the asusrog forums reports success in fixing his issue by completely removing the silver film on the touchpad bottom. I didn't personally have to go to that length, but since the silver foil is basically just shielding the copper touchpad base and covering up a couple of ribbon cables, that might be worth removing also.

I definitely see this issue as being related to the bottom of the pad though, and how ASUS covered it rather than anything physically wrong with the pad hardware.

you didn't read my post preciselly
    i don't have problematic touchpad !
90% of the time it is functional and 10% crazy or maybe less maybe 5% but since i will be opening it why not remove all the pieces that can make problems

i have seen that the sticky tape is on some laptops yellow (Btotech video) and some other color (the picture i have included by other user)

so let me get this straight with this video
    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Tp90M_N6dzs?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Tp90M_N6dzs?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width='640' height="390"></object>

at 6:06 there are tapes and
at 6:16 are tapes for the touchpad
    which one did you pealed

When I removed the yellow tape because I did have the problems I took off the right and bottom pieces leaving the left and top that did not seem to cause me any issues.

The right one was causing the film to tilt and the bottom one was sticking to the underneith of the touchpad and button, I assume it was this causing me troubles when I pressed too hard.

I still noticed a few issues but all have been resolved since repaste and latest drivers. I still think heat/humidity is an issue myself personally.

I wonder if removing the tape lets the silver foil relax away from the underside of the tp, maybe that is why it works.

Hey Madnj, I am almost at the point of removing the top panel and pulling the tape off mine like you did. I am not sure when I will do it, but I would really like to get rid of this problem for good. It has only been four days since your post, I have gone 4 days with mine without an incident and then all of a sudden it happens again. I will for sure do this repair if anyone can say for certain it absolutely fixes the issue once and for all. If yours has any relapses I would appreciate if you would post back. Depending on how effective the tape removal is for others, I may do the more radical procedure and remove the silver cover as well.

Mine has been pretty good lately but it still happens. The other night I was at a meeting, and did not bring my mouse or trackball with me and it happened. I had to reboot the laptop, it is so annoying.

sure... rubbing alcohol 90% is a safe cleanser around electronics. The glue may be stubborn, but just keep at it. I like to use a coffee filter as a scrubbing device wet with alcohol.
