Whats a good temp tool to monitor temps?
How do I check bios version of my laptop?
How do I know I have the latest ATI driver?

For updating to the latest ATI drivers, visit their site at Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD. Download the catalyst control center unless it is already preloaded onto the computer. Run the catalyst control center and there should be an automatic update option.

Another route is to go to the ATI site and close to the top right corner of the screen select component category. Click, and select Notebook Graphics from the menu. From product line, select Mobility Radeon Series, and below that from Product Model: select Mobility Radeon HD 5xxx Series. Below that, select your current operating system which should no doubt be Windows 7 64 bit but double check.

Click view results: Scroll down to option 1. Catalyst Software Suite (Full Software Suite). 10.6 is the revision number. Click download on the right hand side of the selection. Install.

As for bios, don't worry about updating it. Everything should be, but if you are having problems with the notebook, repost with what the problems are and I will be sure to try and help you and lastly we will go through updating the bios.

Use Everest for monitoring your laptop's temps:

You can also use HWinfo, which apart from monitoring your temps, also monitors your CPU and GPU speeds as well as your bios and driver versions. Much more detailed than Everest imho.

Also, when downloading GPU drivers, make sure you select Mobility version (i.e. the laptop drivers not the desktop ones). You can check your Driver version by opening up CCC and then the info center: the driver packaging version.

Also there is a pretty good guide on how to install new catalyst drivers by stubbornswiss in this forum. Use the search function!
