I'm new to this site and I have been noticing a lot of post about upgrading graphic cards. Can you do it with a G73SW? Also how hard would it be?
I new that laptops usually never can upgrade gpus but I was wondering about gaming laptops.

I believe you can't as Asus has its own proprietary interface (slot) to video cards. But other laptops, yes.

Most laptops can't be upgraded, actually. There are some exceptions but not many.

yep, most laptops no. this includes the g73sw. Sager/clevo and AW are the only ones I know for sure you can upgrade the GPU's in.

Yes, it took three attempts, two ending in dead cards, mine was probably bad paste job or faulty card to begin with, but the JH successfully works with a 6970m. No one attempted a SW upgrade though.

all of this boils down to the form factor,in this case the G73JH has MxM3.0 form factor and it could be upgraded up to 6990!

The SW has a MXM3.0b connector as well. A 6970 or 6990 may work, if you use a modded JH heatsink. Maybe even an NVidia card with a Dell VBIOS.

yeah i think the 6990 will work I am still waiting for the new 7XXX release and see how much gain we can get and how lower power consumption the cards are than the current beast AMD 6990m then will decide what card to get however the SW may also capable to upgrade to another nvidia card i cant think about the AMD card cuz its been tested by MXM-Upgrade They tested the JW.

It might be possible, but not very plausible for the normal user. i can build desk tops all day long as well as know how to fix most issues that I or my friends are having, but for me it is not worth risking my laptop or the cost of a new GPU to see if it could work. Now if someone had a kit for a direct replacement and some bios/drivers to download I would be all over it.

It would be madness, the cost would be very high, you might as well sell it, and put the money towards a new laptop.
