so after reading around the forum i have decided to finally upgrade my clunky 5400 rpm HD in my JH to a ssd.
as far as researching around the net.ive got my eyes set on the crucial 128gb m4.
Newegg.com - Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
anyways, what i want to know is if this ssd will be compatible (plug and play) with my jh and also, is it possible for me to use this on a desktop if i ever decide to sell my laptop? tnx

it will work but run at sata 2 speeds, as the JH model only have sata 2 ports.

SATA III does run faster but your JH will only support SATA II. The drive will fit and work but only max out a 3gb/s as it limited to the SATA II speeds.
Installing it will be just like any other drive. You just install it and load Windows on it and off you go.
It will have no problem fitting into a desktop (should come with bracket) so if you really plan on doing that then getting a SATA III could be a good idea because in the future you could take advantage of its full speeds in a desktop -
also, im gonna use my current drive as a back up on my JH. anything i should be doing in particular? -

Even at SATA II speeds it will blow away a 5400rpm HDD!
Nothing really needs to be done to make your second drive as a backup drive. You could reformat it to wipe the OS off of it, doing so will get you some space back. But i'd suggest leaving it on there incase something were to go wrong with the SSD you'd have a second option to boot to. -
Could I keep my original hard drive and put an SSD in as a slave drive?

found this on sale.what do u guys think of this compared to the crucial m4? -
I've always had good look with intel ssds. And according to statistics they are by far the most reliable.
My OCZ drives have had lots of issues. Read the anandtech article on the latest sandforce controllers and the disappearing drives with bsod. -
The OCZ Solid 3 has a low IOPS (input/output operations per second) only 20K, while the other OCZ drives do 50-60K. It also uses a sandforce controller, which alot of people have problems with.
The Crucial M4 is a great drive, doesn't have a sandforce controller and the newest firmware 0009 gave it a 20% speed boost -
ok...sounds like i need to stay away from them then..anyways, i already had my eyes on the m4 for some time now. great reviews and all. just waiting for them to go on sale and ima gonna grab 1..tnx for the input guys!
