If you want to see what could be done about that with the later display drivers, you might want to read this thread here.

I too have stayed with the stock drivers, very stable. You said it yourself, there's an addiction to frame rate, for some to a pathological state. I don't mean any disrespect. Given the choice between stability or faster graphics, I always pick stability.

Depends on which profile is in? I remember i did a trial run when set to entertainment mode, the score for GPU is 6.0, but when i swtich to high performance mode, it is back to 7.2 :)

I'm still on the 10.4 previews and I'm running 7.4 on both GFX tests, but that's probably because i'm OCed.

    nice job ziddy!
but with the new 1.05 voltage are you able to setup 100/150 in power saving mode, like alienware 5870m. can you try?

@Ziddy have you tested HDMI and VGA ports on your laptop with this new vbios?

Since this has become the new Gsod fix thread kind of I am going to repost my last post in the other thread....hope thats ok? I am truly sorry if it is against forum regulation but this is getting very annoying.

I've been playing games on the 10.5's for a little while now but today No game will start. Immediately it crashes and says it is "not responding." Is this the Gsod or what?

EDIT: Well, I overclocked my card to 800/1100 and now all my games will start up and work fine now. Anyone care to shed light on that?

EDIT EDIT: Actually, after my games crashing again, overclocking was not the solution. I ended up uninstalling the ati driver then running driver sweeper then installing 10.4's and now it's all good!

WELL, a GSOD is a GREY[screen of death]. You'd know that if you did your own research. Crashing when loading a game is a driver issue.

The card instability has also been addressed, which you'd know if you'd read THIS thread. It's a memory timing something or other, due to voltage and other technical mumbo jumbo. I doubt the details (or the search command) are important to you, suffice to say that it sounds like you've found a fix all by yourself (which is quite surprising, considering you were unable to find the search function ... or google).

I am truly sorry if it is against forum regulation to respond in this way, but the low level of personal responsibility is getting very annoying.

I appreciate your response, DCx. Good thing I had expected someone with no courtesy to answer me. I had actually read almost every thread regarding this issue which is why I found the fix to overclock my card. The reason I suspected it might be a Gsod was because someone mentioned it also crashing to a black screen which is what mine was doing. Try to be a little more courteous next time, people will more than likely appreciate and like you a little more. ;)

Courteous? You read "everything" and you found "nothing"? That's odd, because I'm sure there are several threads explaining what the GSOD is, as well as several youtube videos, as well as several personal sites (linked from nbr forums) explaining the exact thing you asked.

So maybe you should be MORE courteous and do your fsking research before asking someone else to explain something that is easily found, both with the search function HERE, and using google (Like I said, even searching on Youtube will get you a demonstration and some theories).

Maybe, if you made it clear that you did search for this easily found information, and you were unable to find it, someone would assist you in getting glasses. Or therapy. Or show you "let me google this for you . com". Because honestly? It's *very* rude to ask for help when you're unwilling to help yourself. Congrats that you found the solution. So, why would you ask for help if you already had the answer?

Really? The whole "GREY SCREEN OF DEATH" didn't suggest that perhaps, it would be grey? If it isn't a grey screen, then it's probably not a grey screen of death. Just sayin'.

You need to calm down, DCx. I am not retarded. I do understand Gsod means you get a Gsod....I told you someone mentioned the black screen in relation to the Gsod. Obviously, I did not ask for help when I already had the answer as it read "EDIT," after much searching before and after. You are blowing this way out of proportion.

So, I poster earlier in this thread that I have had no GSOD at all but yesterday it occured. Three times short within eachother. All three while playing WoW.

I installed 10.5 straight when I recieved the laptop and it worked flawless for 10 days or so, untill yesterday....

I uninstalled and installed the driver from Asus´ g73 page. After that raided in WoW for ~5 hours and no problems.

Still amazes me how it can happen after such a long time!
I've been gaming WoW many times before for hours....

Ah well, as a happy member of the Asus GSOD club i'm eager to await an updated vBios now ;)

Btw the load times in BFBC2 with the stock driver is much longer then 10.5 but i "feel" that the game runs better?!

I have found that setting my ATi AI to Advanced keeps the temps lower. When I did the Unigine I used advanced, noticed about 10C less on Crysis between Advanced and Standard.

Interesting, have you experienced a loss in performance by setting it to Advanced? If the GPU runs quite a lot cooler by doing this i would think that the GPU isn't stressed that much compared to the Standard setting.

Or avoid catalyst all together - just extract the drivers and use device manager to update the 5870 manually.

I know that this CD comes with an ATI product.. but since I have not received my laptop and did not see it in the description I assume that you had to download the program. My question is, was it free? and was it from the ATI website?

EDIT: DON'T ANSWER THIS!!! I just came across the answer to my own question and I feel dumb now haha but yeah. Sounds like an awesome add to the already awesome lappy

soo... what ever happened to the vBios? was it confirmed as working on the g73jh? or should I just stick with the ATI catalyst?

Two different things. vBIOS is, well, the BIOS for the video card. Or what controls the card at the hardware level, regardless of operating system (Windows, Linux, etc..) ATI Catalyst is the software and software drivers that control the card at the operating system level. So you have both, a version of vBIOS and a version of ATI Catalyst.
