This is gonna be my first laptop. My budget is limited to to USD 1900. And i have to ship the laptop to India which has stupid taxes that would cost me a further 350$ - 400$ incl. of shipping. So i've got 1500$ for the laptop.

So i had shortlisted the G73JW XR1 with a hybrid primary drive and 8gigs from xoticpc.com for USD 1515. Could you guys let me know how good it is compared to the A1? I really dont care for the backpack or the mouse.

Are there any other g series which falls into my budget and is good?

I've seen the g73jw A1 at amazon for 1449$ but there are a lot of complaints and i wont be able to ask amazon for a refund if i run into trouble. So i decided to buy from xoticpc.com and let them do the red-line service -if they overclock they'll make sure it's in good working condition right?

    Thanks in advance!

If you want less issues, go with the JW, if you want a faster GPU go with the JH (although it comes with a shorter battery life).

I checked the alienware site and build the same specs as for Asus G series. You add approx' $300 to match up G73 series which cost lower...lower...lower.

Checked G73SW. They are both expensive. Do you want to try Sager?
custom gaming laptops - Welcome to Sager Notebooks

If you wan't you can wait for G73SW because G73 series is so so so cool.

    -Edit
I like Asus' model more than Sager. It's way too cooler than Sager hahaha XD But for specs and features, Sager wins T_T

so basically you are with a budget somewhere around 1500 usd? Besides the g73jh you mentioned in the first post, you could try looking for a g53jw with the fhd screen and the i7 740qm as you might find one in your budget.
    Why can't I send a private message to di1in ?

the 1499$ model is the base model, without bluray and only 4gb or ram. It's a joke, just to customise and bring this laptop up and competitive with JW, youhave to boost up the price to 2250$

which one are you talking about? the xr1 starts at 1350 and at 1500 it gets 8gigs, and hybrid primary drive. i dont need bluray. i just need to know if it has those random crashing problems that plague the a1..

i don't think they are producing G73JH anymore

g73jw is confirmed.. im confused bw A1 and xr1

Iv found a way to get the lap without issues. I'll be paying for the redlining service at exoticpc.com They'll stress test and benchmark the system for a stable higher freq so the system has got to be extra good to get past them. it costs 49$. ofcourse the touchpad might not be so obvious but atleast the random crashes and assorted issues might be taken care of.

i don't think you will have problems with heating or similar problems :)
my suggestion will be to talk with some of the employers and explain to him what you are afraid
tell him that you aware of the problems G73 series got

i talked to Donald (powernotebooks) before i bought my G73JH but i wasn't aware of the problems this laptop can have
lucky me the laptop is in perfect condition(only touchpad sometimes get freaky but very rarelly)

Personally I'd go with that new Alienware M17x R3 myself. It's nice Asus gives you the upgrades but personally I don't need them. I haven't had any need for more 4GB of ram yet and I don't buy BDs ever.

The Alienware likely much better build quality, HD6870M should be faster than the 460M. And best of all, it's not a reverse MXM so you can upgrade the GPU at a later time. Upgrading and maintaing Alienware are a breeze. G73s are torture sessions doing so, having to take every screw out, the LCD off, every panel, the keyboard etc etc.

    I do love my G73jh and wouldn't trade it for a M17x R2, but for a R3, I would.

Ouch, not up here in Canada. Up here, the g73 is still ~500 cheaper than comparable laptops...

Alienware = you're paying for the brand.

ASUS = you're paying for the parts.

Just bought the Asus G73sw-XR1 for about $1400. In shipment right about now. Totally psyched.
    Specs:
    i7-2630M
    8GB DDR3 @ 1333 Mhz
17.3 in 1920x1080 Full HD Screen
640GB 5400RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive.
    GTX 460M 1.5 GB DDR5

Totally worth the buy. It's basically the G73SW minus blue ray, backpack, and mouse. Oh, and the hybrid technology hard drive(s). Personally, I'd just buy a mounting bracket for a separate SSD drive, and upgrade the laptop later. Hybrid is just...a middle ground I'm not paying for.
    Lemme know how it goes.

Not anymore. This used to be the issue in 2009-10, however since the launch of the M17X-R3 @ 1499$, it's a perfect competitor to the Asus models, however due to the SB issue, it was temporary removed from the site. Hell, even a Dell Outlet-US coupon deal is great. Crossfire M17-R2's for 1400$ or i7 M15X's for 1200$ ..but that's when they have the coupons up. These deals apply to US-only, however a Canadian can drive to a mail holding facility across border, pay 5.95$, and pick it up.

    @SidtheKid100
Yeah ...make sure you look into the SB recall issue. You may have problems down the road and the RMA service isn't that great to deal with. Good final price of the unit :)
