    Hey Guys,

I have just watched the new Hobbit trailer, and noticed something odd. Whenever the scene went really dark (which was a lot) the whole picture became brighter, so the blacks suddenly changed to black-grey. I thought it might be connected with the Windows functionality, the adaptive lighting, but after turning the thing off, nothing has changed. Again, the same issue.

    What can cause that?

I have also noticed that after turning on the PC (or bringing it back from sleep) the screen changes color temerature a couple times. Maybe it's related? Did you guys noticed anything like that in your units?

    Thanks.

Color temperature changes is due to ASUS Splendid technology because that app is only responsible for change in color temperature.

Will it still be on warranty if i changed the HD and the dvd.slot for.a.second hd???

Yes, you're still on warranty as long as you put back the changes you have done to laptop hardware.
I would say that you should check another pair of charger for your laptop because mostly charging issues are related to the charger than the laptops themselves.

My situation was slightly different, I don't recall any noise. But I had a similar issue with the battery not charging. For me the power management controller needed to be reset. You can pull the battery for this, or there's a much simpler solution. Run on battery, and let the battery drain completely. Where it doesn't even blink when you hit the power button.

Then, plug the power cord back in, and see if it start charging. Mine was working normally at this point. Unfortunately if it doesn't, your battery is now fully dead, and your system is a brick until it's fixed.

Could it have been overloaded which triggered its cut-off protection?

My screen also seems to change temperatures a few times after starting it, what did you end up doing about this, and what was the effect it had on your screen?

Hi guys! I want to buy this laptop, but I'm a bit concearned about the cooling...

I heard that because it has exhaust vents on the back, the heat can affect the screen? It is true? Can anyone confirm? How hot does it get in the upper side when gaming 1h-2h?

Also, what temperatures do you get after gaming (CPU, GPU, outside)? What if you deactivate Turbo Boost?

PS: I'm also interested in Asus G551JM and N551JK, but they're both thicker and heavier and G551JM seems to have worse cooling (throttle)...

It's a excellent performing machine. Cooling is excellent and there's no sort of throttle. Practically, All games runs just fine.
Fan's are quiet and are really well made and they by no mean effects anything of this laptop.

And ANY laptop in the market will get very hot while gaming, it may be either in bottom or in top. This machine will also heat up within 15 minutes when gaming. But you won't feel any heat on bottom or in keyboard area but the area around "Audio by Bang & Olufsen ICEpower" will get untouchable hot.

My temperature while playing BF3,BF4, GTA 4, etc stays around 80c at avg while peaking at 90c no matter how long I play. But this is because I live in a very hot country where usual temperature is above 35c.

I am not at all happy with this machine. It's the little things, like the crippled BIOS, the awful bloatware, and the combination mic/headphone jack that broke after less than a dozen uses. I'm not rough with my machines, and I have not once had any headphone jack break on me before.

Talk to Svet, see if he can unlock the BIOS for you.
As far as bloatware goes, you can uninstall them under Control Panel.

I'm not sure, mine feels very fragile, I noticed it as soon as I got the laptop, it seems "flaky" for lack of a better word. I would still buy the laptop again however, and the plug still works. Maybe its just more finicky, but my gut tells me it might stop working in a year or two.

What exactly do you mean by fragile? I have noticed with some headphones the connection can seem flaky unless you wiggle the plug just right. But I think this is a result of using a standard audio jack in the combo port. I usually use my Razer Blackshark though. It has a combo plug for the headphones and Mic and works perfectly.

Yeah the headphone jack is pretty flacky on mine too. It pops sometimes. Just make sure to never move the wires in it at extreme angles and break it. Kinda annoyung that i have to watch for such a minute thing.

Also, does anyone notice the coil noise from the nvidia gpu when gaming with demanding games? Turn the sound off and see if you can hear it.

Also my screem seems to have burn in issues. I can clearly see my chrome browser url and tab bars on a blue or gray background.

Yes by fragile I meant exactly what you said. It seems flaky until I wiggle it just right. I thought the combo part was designed such as to take standard audio jacks? Is there some adapter I should be using instead of plugging in my headphones directly??

I think it is designed to use standard audio jacks but some of them are manufactured poorly. And with the extra connection for the Mic they are sometimes off enough to cause issues. They do sell splitters to divide the Mic and audio into separate plugs but I've had bad luck with most of the ones I've tried. But those have been cheapies from Amazon.

Hmm ok. I'll see if I can try an adapter in case it improves things. It kinda sucks though, I imagine most people only use headphones rather than a full head-set with mic. Anyhow as long as it doesn't completely stop working I'm happy. If it does then I'll be real pissed though! lol

Certainly haven't had any issues with burn-in. Screen looks as good as the day I bought it. As far as any noise under load...just ran Furmark for ten minutes. Peaked at about 88 degrees and the only sound I heard was the cooling fans. Certainly no electronic coil noise.

If it flickers at certain angles the display cable is either damaged or loose on the motherboard and/or display.

Hi Just got my N550jk yesterday.

I have a couple of issues and have looked in this thread but found no solutions.
    1. Creak on moving the screen. Its coming from the long silver plastic cover on the hinge. (Can this be removed easily so i can try fix the issue?)
    2. My Touchpad randomly stops work then few minutes later it can start again.

    Thanks

For me the creaking went away in time. Just give it time to break in.

The mouse issue, update all drivers, and update the bios. It will go away too.

    Hi,
I just set up my N550JK DS74T last night. I find the wireless connection very slow much of the time unless I re-start the computer. Then after a while of using it, it gets slow again. On Speedtest.net I measure between 0.6 MBPS (not a typo) and 6 MBPS. I have an HP laptop here that that measures about 10.0 to 13.0 MBPS. I have Comcast Cable 25 MB service.

Has anyone has a similar problem? The card in the Asus computer is the Intel AC 7260. I called Asus and all they could say is send in for service. The laptop is 4 days old. I will probably return it to Amazon and get another HP. Any thoughts on what could be going on?

I plan to buy this laptop soon, specially now that's $930 on Amazon. But it seems it has so many problems with the build quality. The screen turns off, the audio jack comes off, the DVD drive doesn't fit well, problems with performance, drivers, etc.

Honestly, I'm scared. I mean, is there anybody whose machine DID NOT have any problems?

Maybe newer batches are better build? Long shot, but I'm hoping for that.

    Hello,

    I can't decide between 2 laptops - it is dell 7537 and asus n550jk.

    dell specs:
    i7-4510u
    8gb ram
    1tb hdd
    750m gpu
    fhd touch panel

    asus specs:
    quadcore haswell i7
    850m gtx
    8gb ram
    1tb disc
    IPS matte screen.

Can't really decide between these 2, asus is pricier ~100usd.

Pros for asus: matte IPS screen, gaming power, sound system (some report its excellent and some report its awful)>
Cons for asus: battery, constantly spinning fan, build quality (don't know about it really), useless dvd burner.

Pros for dell: design, low power consumption, battery life,
cons: keyboard flex, glossy touchscreen (don't need it really), wifi problems.

I am not a gamer, but if I had a pc capable of it , I might play :D I often watch movies, do programming, browsing the net. Portability is a good thing, but there is almost always an option to use socket..

I don't have an option to touch these both. Have checked the 7537, I loved the design, didn't notice that keyboard flex, but I did not really focus on that.

so please, your opinion , which one of these is more 'premium' laptop and would be a better overall purchase?

Main difference between those 2 is of power.
Dell us more portable and gives more battery life due to 2 dual core processor.
ASUS is more powerful and funtional. Battery life of ASUS is not that bad it lasts 4 hours in battery saving mode and normal usage.
Quality wise, I would prefer ASUS over Dell but ASUS is simply stunning in quality.

I would say, ASUS is worth your money if portability isn't much of your concern...
