thanks for taking the time.
my issue is a little different, disabling the track pad is simple once i have installed the elan drivers, but i have done a fresh install and the elan driver dont work on the laptop. the track pad responds by being crazy. just scrolling will end up clicking and right clicking, and it jumps from corners to various other places. completely erratic.
if i uninstall then i get beck the functionality of the track pad , but then this is where i have the problem , i am unable to find a way to disable the the track pad. i even looked in the drivers section. no way to disable , only uninstall drivers.
thanks again

Added a link to the ASUS graphics driver. It is generally behind the latest generic Catalyst released by AMD, but it is supposedly tailored specifically for the 5730 in the laptop. I am using it after experiencing BSODs with Youtube and other videos using 10.6 and 10.7 generic drivers.
-
Thanks.
I had no problems with the generic driver so far. I will stay on it for the current time.
As I suggest on you post in the other thread try to remove flashplayer and install a fresh copy again.
I had the same problem before with youtube before which disappeared after reinstalling flashplayer. -
After learning that the problem was linked to Flash 10.1 hardware acceleration, I upgraded back to 10.7
. I am surprised re-installing worked for you; are you using the latest Flash (10.1.53.64 in Firefox) with hardware acceleration enabled? Can you survive the BSOD link in
my post in the owner's lounge?
-
I had the BSODs with internet explorer and did not get them after I reinstalled the latest version from adobe site.
I will check it with firefox and IE8 by visiting this link you gave in the other thread when I have the laptop on.
Usually I am giving him a break over the weekend.

Added new chipset driver.

Hi Guys,
I was wondering on how to update the ATI HDMI Audio driver and I found the following two driver versions:
Realtek
ATI Catalyst? HDMI Audio Driver
Which one do you think is the right one, at the moment I still have the original Realtek v. 6.0.1.5857 dated the 20 of May 2009.
Any ideas?

Hi Stevedogg,
I'm a bit confused with the WLAN drivers' numbering system:
version 9.1.0.100 dated the 28/05/2010
version 9.0.0.202 dated the 04/06/2010
how comes the 9.0.0.202 is more recent with a lower number?
Can you explain this to me?
Many thanks. -
Not sure how the dates work, but I would just go with the version number. Added it to the front page; thanks.
-
Wow that is strange. They seem to have removed the HDMI audio driver from the Mobility Catalyst package! It is definitely included in the official ASUS driver, but that is based on a much older Catalyst version.
Here's what I did (it seems to work, but no guarantees that it will work for you):
1) Download the normal Catalyst 10.7 package (i.e. for desktop computers, e.g. from Station Drivers, direct link)
2) Don't run the EXE; use an archive utility (I use 7-Zip 9.15 beta) to open the EXE as an archive. Extract the $_OUTDIR folder to a temporary folder on your hard drive.
3) Go into Device Manager and open the Driver tab in the properties for the HDMI audio output (it might show there as ATI HDMI or even just "High Definition Audio Device," depending on what you had installed before 10.7). Click the update driver tab, choose to manually install the driver, choose "have disk," and point it to "your temporary directory\$_OUTDIR\Packages\Drivers\WDM\HDMICE\W764a".
4) Windows searches the INF and recognizes the hardware ID as a compatible device supported by the driver and will show the device in the window. Choose it ("ATI High Definition Audio Device") and install the driver.
5) End result: you have ATI HDMI audio driver version 7.11.0.7706 (dated 05/06/2010).
Edit: if you don't like this very manual method, you may try something like Step 7 of this post. He uses the desktop driver package as well (just replace 10.6 with 10.7), but he uses the actual ATI installer and just unchecks everything except the audio driver. It probably works fine, but I personally prefer the manual method to update just one component. -
Your're welcome
Many thanks detailed and precise as usual, no problem with the manual method at all, but at this stage I'm really curious to see what the ATI HDMI Audio Driver 10.7 does, I'll let you know as soon as I try it when I get back home in about 12 hours time. If it does the same thing it might be simpler for the majority of users. -
mine: USB\VID_13D3&PID_5122&REV_0202&MI_00
yours: USB\VID_13D3&PID_5122&REV_1118&MI_00
is mine compatible with your webcam driver? thanks. -
Yes, V5.8.54000.207 should work for you.

I'm afraid that 10-7_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc does not contain these folders
I must apologise but I've just noticed that the following link is for XP and not for W7, sorry guys.
ATI Catalyst? HDMI Audio Driver
but it does contain the folders:
C:\ATI\Support\10-7_xp32-64_hdmiaudio\Packages\Drivers\WDM\HDMI\XP64A
At the moment I cannot find the 10.7 HDMI Audio drivers for W7!! -
Look again at my post; you have to use the desktop drivers, not the Mobility package. I provided a direct link to download them in the post.
-
Oops sorry, didn't notice the word desktop
, the 12hr shift has got me naggered.
I have for now used the Realtek link I supplied and did the update from the following folder:
HDMI_R249\HDMI\Vista64
I now have driver version 6.0.1.6121 of the 24/05/2010.
Another day I'll try the 10.7 desktop version as you suggested.
Many thanks stevedogg
-
Added new hotkey driver and audio driver.
-
Naw, you have got to be kidding
, I'll just managed to do them all and now there are others, wow!*!
In any case great work stevedogg!
-
I don't want you to get too comfortable!

is there any secret to install the last chipset update successfully ? because I did it and all seem ok but my system did not reboot and I always have the same 9.1.1.1022 controler in device manager...
-
Check out this post to verify your INF version.
-
Excellent, thank you. Upgrade done without reboot !

Added new Intel MEI driver.

WLAN Atheros V9.1.0.100 seemed to slow down my internet after I installed it. I'm sure it wasn't my internet as I tried on other computers so I rollbacked the driver (<3 Windows) and it became faster again.
-

Hey guys, just a simple question, how do i install the newest wireless driver Atheros V9.1.0.100? I downloaded it but when i opened it, all i get is these folders: ndis5x, ndis6x and ndis5x64. So what do i do after this step?
Help appreciated. -
Suggest going to device manager-network adaptors-Atheros9285 Wireless adaptor; double clicking, choose driver tab, update driver, search for drivers on this computer and pointing to the ndis6x folder. It does the job.
Chris -
Thanks, i got it working!
-
I thought we were suppose to use the ndis5x64 folder?
-
According to this, you should be using NDIS 6 for Win 7.
-
I'm looking at the device manager and I'm seeing the drivers for a telephone modem. Where is the modem on this system?
-
There's no modem. Do you have a bluetooth cell phone paired with your laptop? If so, you may be seeing the "modem over bluetooth" item.
-
hi guys..!!
am i going to have a faster and better wireless card if i update it to the latest version?WLAN Atheros V9.1.0.100 (07/31/2010) tnx!!! -
Added ASUS (non-generic) graphics driver.
-
Why don't you just try it and see for yourself! Its just a driver update you can always change it back if you don't like it.

Hi Steve,
What is the difference between ATI HD Audio device and Realtek HD Audio Device? Both of these are listed in Device Manager. Have to select any one of it to be default audio? TIA. -
The Realtek device is your laptop speakers. The ATI device is the audio channel on your HDMI output. If you plug your laptop into, e.g., a TV via the HDMI cable, the audio will play through the TV if you choose the ATI device as your default output.
To change the current output device, right-click the speaker icon in the Windows taskbar and choose "Playback devices." Select which device you want (ATI for the HDMI device or Realtek for the laptop speakers) and click "Set Default." -
Hi Steve, thank you very much.

i have the exact same issue. The ELAN driver when installed is extremely buggy. I even uninstalled it and reinstalled it with various versions. Is there anyway to disable the touchpad WITHOUT the ELAN driver installed, when i have a usb mouse plugged in? My touchpad works perfectly fine when the ELAN driver is UNINSTALLED but it becomes buggy and cannot function when it is installed.
thanks in advanced
EDITT/// Is there any alternative drivers i could install instead of ELAN? -
I have no idea what is causing your (and sonofcake's) issue; I'm sorry. Is it possible that the driver is corrupted and is not uninstalling fully? Things you might try:
After uninstalling the driver via Control Panel (ETDWare entry), try going into device manager and uninstalling the touchpad device under "Mice and other pointing devices." Right click the ELAN device => uninstall. Make sure to check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device." Then try rebooting and reinstalling the ELAN driver. -
thansk a lot stevedogg. that worked
-
Added new BIOS update.
-
The wireless drivers you posted borked my internet. I would advised to remove them, I have a Netgear WNDR 3700 and was only getting 54mbps. I had to restore as even uninstalling and rolling back messed up.
