Just want to know, how could GX701 has 40 GB of RAM??
-
Is there a 32 GB sodimm?
-
I thought the highest is 16 GB, that is what Asus website said
-
Hidevolution has been offering 32GB DIMMs for a while now. They should be available for consumers soon though.

So if I purchase from hidevolution, they will do the modification? Or asus?
-
Hidevolution will do it .You chose it on their configuration page when it becomes available.Dennismungai likes this.

So hidevolution will open up laptop and upgrades it? But I really just want stock memory and ssd. Since Asus optimize it.

Asus buys a large quantity of components from various suppliers and slaps them in their computers. The only "optimal" thing about it is how to maximize their bottom line.
HIDevolution is a premium system integrator who installs upgrade components of your choice into whatever machine you buy and tests them before shipping it out to you. Any issues that arise with those parts are handled through HIDevolution, which has excellent after-sales support, as opposed to Asus, who could charitably be described as lackluster. -
If you just want the base model then Best Buy have it listed and if you are a rewards member you can get good interest free credit. If you want a system to be the best it can then Hidevolution is the way to go. I have reviewed many of their systems on my YouTube channel and most have ran great (m15 perhaps the exception). They will even undervolt it out the box for you.Dennismungai likes this.

I want a 24GB ram version, but really interested with 40GB. I could just buy on amazon.ca since it's cheaper but without 40gb
-
Anyway... I pre-ordered on hidevolution.... With a lot upgrades. Hopefully it will turn into a laptop that really good. And thank you guys

Asus still not ship my GX701 to hidevolution yet. And I asked Asus support, he said gx701 is not fully released yet. And no drivers can be found on asus website. Any clue when will asus fully release? Because I thought Jan 29 Asus will release it, since that is when hidevolution allow people to buy.
Thank you in advanced -
You may know by now, but if you don't I'd hate to break it to you but the gx701gx has been delayed until late February (what hidevolution site is now saying) and even Amazon which didn't even list this laptop before today is listing it as a pre order available on February 20th (Amazon link) ( https://www.amazon.com/Zephyrus-Pan...ds=gx701gx&dpPl=1&dpID=41QveeKrBGL&ref=plSrch)

Any reason Asus delay release it?
-
Did you ask @Donald@HIDevolution? He may can help you. I saw Razer laptops is already delivered to user who ordered it on 29 from their website. Asus is bigger than Razer usually delivers to costumers earlier than smaller manufacturer like Razer.

I talked to people at asus. Found out some of 2070 cards performance lower than 2060 for unknown reason. That is on SCAR and Zephyrus line up. But SCAR is released, so no going back. For 2080, it's just unknown reason, but likely same thing happened.hmscott likes this.

so this one is not released in the US nor EU is it?

Hey everyone. Has anyone ordered this laptop with a 2080 Max-Q? the MSI guys (GS65 and 75) would like to see a GPU-Z screenshot.
Thanks in advanced!hmscott likes this. -
I've pre-ordered one in the Netherlands, supposedly the distributors over here should have received some units a couple of days ago but the shipment didn't come in yet. Perhaps there's a delay for EU, but if you haven't gotten a GPU-Z screenshot yet by the time it comes in I'll share it asap.JRey likes this.

I'm excited to see this benched and compared to the other RTX laptops. This was my front runner before all the benchmarks and pricing of the other units came out. The Lenovo Legion Y740 is basically $1299 less or +/- a bit depending on the Lenovo discount you can get (and Lenovo discounts are abound)... And then the full desktop class cpu laptops are performing incredibly higher for prices lower or on par with this system.
For the price of the i7-8750h config with 2070MaxQ, you can get an Alienware Area-51m with i7-9700k and a full 2070. For the 2080maxQ config, you can get the Area-51m with full 2080 and 9700... Then the Lenovo has the same specs as the Zephyrus, yet costs significantly less.
Hopefully the thermals and build quality are amazing to justify the price. I loved the 17" screen fitting in the 15" form factor due to the removal of the worthless camera, the opening bottom for thermals, I even like the touchpad being on the right side.piteris2 likes this. -
If you don't care about the portability of your system and only care about performance, then you *should* go for something like the Alienware Area 51m or any other 'thicker' laptop. There's a bunch of little things that add to the premium you're paying for the GX701GX. Performance will likely never hold up to the thick 'desktop replacement' laptops. So unless you're hoping for some kind of tradeoff where you're okay with paying 500-1000 more for a thinner/more stylish laptop if it performs only 10% less than a full fledged fat laptop, it's not worth the price.
That said, I did pre-order it with the idea that it should hold up for 3-5 years and be very portable. As long as it can achieve that I got my money's worth. -
This laptop has been delayed quite a few times. It was originally supposed to be out January 29th then when that date passed retailers showed it as February 20th, and since that last date has passed the majority of retailers are saying march 15th.
Asus has a list of retailers on the web page for this laptop with some of the retailers listed as having the gx701gx in stock (which they don't). Asus list themselves as a retailer and they have always displayed themselves as out of stock. -
The Lenovo Legion Y740 isn't a thick laptop or a huge behemoth by any means, but can easily be had for ~$2000 with the same specs as the GX701 that is $3200.
That said, 10% less is a stretch. An i7-8750h and 2080 MQ range from 10-35% slower than a i7-9700k and 2080 mobile card. Sometimes even more since the 2080MQ is so neutered.
That said, I ultimately agree that you are paying for a lot of the other factors and this can sometimes be justified. I just don't think that is now, and that the price at full price is absolutely ridiculous. The previous Zephyrus with 1080 MQ (which isn't much of a step down from this one) with almost all of the nice build quality factors has been available for substantial periods of time brand new for $1600-$1800 for the last couple of months. This model screams of a good buy in a couple years when you can grab a nice used model or a clearanced new model, but I just can't justify it any other way. It is unfortunate because it was my front runner up until the RTX release. -

Same for the US.
I guess asus ain't got their **** together.piteris2 likes this. -
As of this posting the following link has 2 in stock (2x GX701GX, 0x GX531GX):
https://www.box.co.uk/GX701GX-EV016R-ASUS-ROG-GX701GX-EV016R_2422868.html
No idea if this is actually accurate, but they claim shipping at the 26th of February with express shipping. It is about 400-500 euro more expensive than offers in my own country though.
Regardless, I pre-ordered at Alternate so I'll still be waiting.
EDIT:
As of this posting, in stock at ExcaliberPC

I have a question guys, I heard the new windows feature update frequently break rog laptop. Some people told me Bluetooth/wifi/some drivers failed to work after a update in the past.
So should i update to win 10 1903 on April? or I should just stick with my 1809 forever?Last edited: Feb 27, 2019 -

An update! I just got a notification that mine is coming in tomorrow! The other Dutch webshop selling it still has it labeled as 'coming soon', so I'm glad I went with my webshop and I won't have to wait much longer.
I'll be testing it with some games, and if it's not performing well enough, I might return it in favor of one of the beefy phat laptops. (Like the new G703GX)piteris2 likes this. -

Interesting stuff. Your 2080 Max-Q is a TU104. Have you ran any benchmarks yet?
Also, can you do a BIOS dump and send it to me?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
I haven't run any benchmarks aside from just eyeballing some videogames. (Which worked fine on high settings, although FF15 showed some sub 60 drops on the ROG balanced profile, stock without any tweaks)
I'm at work at the moment and although I could, I don't want to annoy the office playing with my shiny new toy.
When I'm at home today I'll look into running some benchmarks at stock. I'll extract the vBIOS then as well.

German review of the GX 701GX is here: https://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-...-2080-Max-Q-Laptop.410376.0.html#toc-leistung
Apparently the 2080 max-q is the 90w version.
They state that it has 2xm.2 slots, so does the official asus website ( https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/ROG-ZEPHYRUS-S-GX701/Tech-Specs/ )
If it had 2 m.2 slots, it would be amazing - could you confirm that? And how are your temperatures and clocks while gaming?piteris2 likes this. -
Yea, you guys have the 90w version. You can tell based on the clock speeds.
735-1090 is 80w
990-1230 is 90w

1tb is just a joke for a gaming notebook when games like battlefield, gta V or far cry 5 take up more than 50gb each (far cry 5 for example uses 63gb).
Having a second m.2 slot is great for putting in a "cheap" drive, while having the very fast and reliable samsung nvme ssd for OS, important data and some games._deadbydawn_ likes this. -
First of all: Rename the TU104.zip file to TU104.rom (I just renamed the extension, I didn't actually zip it up)
Second: Here's some Time Spy benchmarks.
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/6416430 (Stock, zero tweaking, 'Balanced' Mode)
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/34061653? (Stock, zero tweaking, 'Turbo' Mode)
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/34063058? (-100mV cpu, -50mV GPU, 'Turbo' Mode)
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/34063371? (-100mV cpu, 0mV GPU, 'Turbo' Mode)
I didn't alter *any* settings at all (like speed shift) on ThrottleStop for the undervolted run.
At this point I'm not sure if it's worth undervolting for 'performance' (but hey who knows about the long term right?)Attached Files:

Awesome score! Higher than my flashed 90w from a Razer Blade.
I’ll flash my GPu tonight and share some scores and temps, assuming my flash won’t error out.

I have the feeling that Throttlestop is helping to keep the fan speed down a bit, but it doesn't seem to have a large impact on performance.
Then again, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to this stuff and I didn't want to minmax all the settings yet.
See here for my (attempt) at Time Spy Benchmarks:

I tried to flash but it wouldn't let me. You may have a different GPU overall from other 2080 Max-Q GPUs. I'm assuming you have a full 2080 flashed to a Max-Q variant.
