Once you mentioned me that there is a software which is called ''notebookfancontrol'' and can be downloaded here: https://github.com/hirschmann/nbfc/releases

I downloaded it to check if I can make it work with my G703 but I couldn't make it happen. Maybe because there was no profile about the specific model. I only would like to tweak the fans during web browsing. Is there any other suggestion you have or regarding notebookfancontrol?

 

It's something that has instructions on how to make a profile, so I can only recommend to read the docs and experiment with it, but be careful and monitor the fan speeds - listen for fan noise and air movement - as I recall some reported hitting on settings that disabled fan's - they didn't run even as temps rose, so be careful.

Google around and see if anyone has notes on making custom profiles, and check the Asus forums too.

It's been a while that I wanted to do this - and thanks to ASUS it's been possible. The guys at ROG South Africa gave me the permission to dismantle their latest core i9 (unlocked) laptop and overclock it under liquid nitrogen.

Hi guys,

I would like to ask a two questions:

1. What is real gaming difference with one 1 power adapter plugged in insted of 2? I tried 3dMark and I have almost the same results.

2. Is there free slot for 2inch SSD or HDD? or there is only free slot for one additional PCIe SSD?

1. There is no real difference to my eyes. I use 1 adapter all the time.

2. There is [1] 2.5 inch hd/ssd slot. and [3] PCIE ONLY m2 slots. HOWEVER: i have samsungs in m2 slots 1 and 2. when i tried to use slot 3 with a 1tb pcie from crucial, i was told that BECAUSE I DID NOT USE INTEL SSDS FOR SLOTS 1 AND 2, SLOT 3 CANNOT BE USED. so im a little pissed at Asus right now but im waiting for an update on that situation. @Donald@HIDevolution if u know anything about this please chime in.

 

Yes, that is correct. That is why we only offer 3 SSDs in RAID when the first two are the Intel 760p. It is ONLY with these 2 drives, coupled with any PCIe NVMe SSD in the 3rd slot, that you can get the 8,000+ MB/s in RAID 0. It is also why we only offer the Intel 760p in Slots 1 & 2 when getting no-RAID.

Did u guys find this out after i made the purchase because, with or without RAID, i was never given the intel ssd option.

 

It always came standard with the 2x Intel 760p SSDs in RAID 0. From the time of release until June 15th, we just called them 'ASUS Approved', not specifically the 760p. Your order was during the period from release to June 15th. On June 15th we specified that they were Intel 760p SSDs, but always only offered either ASUS Approved, or 760p, for Slots 1 & 2 in RAID 0.

When you broke the standard RAID 0 in exchange for a single PCIe NVMe SSD, as you did in your order, then it could go in any slot.

One of the major benefits for this model was breaking the PCIe 3.0 limitation of 1000 MB/s per lane, or 4000 MB/s with x4 lanes. To get the 8000+ MB/s (Asus ROG Hyperdrive Extreme) this model uses PCIe 3.0 lanes from both the CPU, and the Chipset, thereby sourcing more lanes. Asus ROG Hyperdrive Extreme in RAID 0 can only be achieved with 2 of the Intel 760p SSDs in slots 1 & 2 plus any PCIe NVMe drive, other than the Intel 760p, in slot 3. The fastest of all is combining the 2 Intel 760p SSDs with the Samsung 970 SSD.

 

@Donald@HIDevolution when i look now at the hidevolution website, for slots 1 and 2 u ONLY offer intel ssds. whereas when i ordered it u offered asus approved ssds as well as Samsung ssds. There was never any mention of the intel issue. I have since purchased an additional Samsung 960 pro for slot 2. i want to use the highest quality ssds but not at the expense of disabling my 3rd ssd slot. Im left without recourse.

 

I understand, and apologize for our website not being more clear in the beginning. At that time, we knew the limitations for RAID 0, and that is why only ASUS Approved were offered. However, none of our customers ever ordered, or received, more than one M.2 SSD that was not an Intel 760p.

I am sorry you did not inquire about the SSD upgrade path available on this model when you bought, or when you decided you wanted to upgrade the SSD setup. We could have informed you at that time the limitations of upgrading.

 

u guys dont have any trade in program for these ssds do you? also just to clarify, u mention RAID 0. I dont know if it matters but i do not have a RAID array set up

Woah, they added optional Optimus? That is an interesting development. The G703 is 4.7kg's so I don't imagine people ever really use it unplugged, but *optional* options are good I suppose.

Oh it's a software switch through the ROG application. That is less good as that software overvolts everything like crazy.

Any idea on WHY it needs 760p''s for RAID? Also, breaking the PCIe 3.0 limitation simply means they castrated the GPU PCIE bus to x8
