anyone tried this monster with Age of Conan? I am curious how the game runs on it. Thanks
-
Thanks, that adapter is exactly what I needed. Took some doing to get ahold of one, but it works very well. Now I've got the beast connected to my Logitech Z-5500, and wow, the sound quality is amazing compared to the analog setup with my desktop.
-
Just to let it be known, it has taken me a little while to get used to the keyboard layout. However, this is coming from a desktop to a notebook, so that may be the reason.
Gaming is pretty solid on this laptop. CS: Source runs flawlessly on all the highest settings. Call of Duty 4 runs pretty well on mostly low settings with textures set to high.
The only thing is, if you are going to be playing FPS games, make sure to disable the LuxPad, or you'll find yourself shooting unexpectedly as your palm will rest partially on the pad.
The missing keystrokes are the only complaint I have right now. I tried a fix, but I'm not sure if it's working. -
Is anyone playing WoW on their M50VM?
What settings does it comfortably handle? What FPS do you get at those settings? -
I want to get the M50VM, I just have a few questions. How is the keyboard, is it cramped because of the numpad on it to? Is it portable, as in not to big because I will be flying a lot and I don't want it to be to huge or heavy. I was contemplating the F8Va-C1, but I don't like the HD3650 that much and I want to game a lot on it and I could see a 14" screen being to small. Also, is it worth it to get the 500GB hardrive version?
The only thing I don't like about the M50VM is that it has the 9600M GS in it, instead of a 9700M GT but I don't want to get a G50V because it looks like a notebook the power rangers would use. -
How is the 9-cell battery life for this laptop compared to other similar 15.4 laptops?
Also, is there any 15.4 laptop Asus makes that has a screen that is somehwat birghter than this one? I wish I could get a 15.4 laptop with at least 300 nits screen. Thanks.

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
1. Keyboard is full size.
2. You won't be opening any 15" notebook for easy use in coach class; 14" is hit/miss these days. Potential weight (high/low) is dependent on user preference.
3. If you have means/need for the larger hdd now or soon, you might as well get it. Else, you can always wait and upgrade later on.
4. Power rangers....... I knew there was a good metaphor for the color scheme on that thing. rofl
Do they make a 9 cell for the M50? I can only find 6 cell ones.
Anyway, figure 1.5x cells/mWh would be around 3-3.5 hours, based on the 6 cell expected runtime. -
this baby works very well and i have no missing keystrokes... my only complaint is i cannot get the mode button to work on the touchpad. Any suggestions?
-
Just got mine, I love it so far. Not really noticing missing keystrokes, so hopefully I got a good one.
-
previous model had 330 nits M50SV, this one is only 200 nits, but seems a little brighter then any of the new HPs/Toshibas
-
does anyone know what are ideal settings for Crysis? I've set everything to medium, shadows to low and textures to high, but can I push some other things more?
-
Thanks for info on screen and possible 9 cell battery life. Truly considering this machine as primary computer. Does Gentech provide any type of return policy if for some reason, it does not fit my needs and expectations? Thanks.
Gary -
I'm able to get 4-4.5 hours while word processing and/or surfing the net with my M50 running on the 9-cell.
-
you can get 3-3.5 hours out of the 6 cell if you wan to but you have to cut things out og vista that are pwoer hungry like vista areo instead use vista basic or an older theme this help cut back with some power
-
That's not too shabby, not at all! (At least, for ASUS, it isn't) Does that mean that other manufacturers now get 6 hours of batt life from Montevina notebooks?
If so, I want one of those.

yeah but the question is will it blend?! -
I just ordered my Asus M50Vm-B1 I should have it by friday. I can't wait till I get it
-
you wont regret the purchase but rember to turn off ambient light sensor with fn+A
-
Thanks for the tip, I knew I had read this somewhere and your post was right there!
-
I ordered the M50VM-B1 about a week ago, I just checked the UPS tracker and it's going to be delivered to me tomorrow. I will let you guys know how it is. I'm very excited to try it out!
-
What? That's impossible! I'm only getting 2.5 hours on the 6 cell with the max battery plan. I only do light tasks.
-
I got mine today and was uninstalling a few things and the 2007 Office couldn't complete the uninstall and now i'm getting a corrupt error. Any suggestions?
Also, i tested the webcam with Windows Messenger Live and the mic volume is very low. You have to go into the realtek audio controls and turn up the "mic boost" all the way up to +30.0db for it to be usable. -
if anyone has any ideas on what i should update the first post with let me know.
-
Mark,
Maybe a link to the M50SV post regarding new bios for the high pitch sound problem with headphones?
-
how's the webcam quality?
anyone got a sample pic
i know on some laptops it's so bad there's no point in having it -
Hi all,
I'm planning to order this laptop once I get home from my holiday. I will be using this laptop for school and some gaming (seems like most people are like this too). As a student I have a limited budget so around $1650 would probably be my very limit. I am hoping to keep this laptop will last me for quite a while.
Couple of things I'm wondering before I order it.
1. Is it worth it to spend an extra $120~ to upgrade it to a vista64 (home premium) to make use of that extra 1gb of ram since 32s only read up to 3gb (if i remember correctly)
If it is worth it to upgrade:
2. Is it worth it to spend $200 to upgrade it to vista64 ultimate or just keep at it with home premium? Since some say ultimate runs better compared to the other versions of vista
3. Between the A1 and B1 is it worth it to spend an extra $150~ for the 6mb cache and that extra 0.2Xghz?
Thanks

when playing FPS's, the keyboard starts to lag and make funny noises.... but i dont have keyboard lag otherwise... any suggestions?
-
I am really frustrated now.
I called the shop where I placed an order last weekend.
Originally they said I will get my M50VM-AK014C by Thurday this week, but now they are saying that ASUS did not delivery it to them and hopefully they will get it start of next week and it will be delivered until end of next week.
Your really lucky in USA.
In Germany ASUS has still not released it.

Will any expresscard media remote work with the IR port on the front left edge of the laptop?
-
I just got my M50VM-B1 today, newegg shipped it out from NJ and im in NY so it only took a day to get here by UPS ground! Im on the express gate browser right now typing this (first time trying out express gate as well). Damn I love this laptop, I was playing Counter-Strike Source on it earlier and it was running it all maxed out at 80-90 FPS on dust2. This thing is great, I don't know why everyone bashes it because of the video card. I think the video card is fine for a laptop, I rather have my games be a little bit slower then having the power rangers notebook aka the G50V.
-
2nd night with it and have been actually able to use it instead of setting it up. A few points to share.
1. It runs really cool compared to other laptops I've used. Had it on my lap while watching tv and was very surprised how cool it was. The fan is also on but very low and hardly any sound.
2. No lag that i've noticed on the keyboard.
3. I don't notice that my touchpad is bulging. I have to say this is the best touchpad i've used. It doesn't get "stuck" like other keypads where you take your finger off and you can't seem to get the cursor off something.
4. The webcam seems to have a slightly longer lag than other webcams, not sure what I need to do to fix that. The quality of the video seems to be on par with the other brands. Works pretty decent in low light too.
5. The keyboard is great. Nice having the number pad.
6. Express Gate is a really nice feature. The wireless is off as the default in Express Gate. Also, I could only set the resolution to 1280x720, I'd like to have the 1440x900 tho.
Going to test the HDMI, maybe bluetooth A2DP tomorrow. -
The IR receiver picked up the Media Center remote that I normally use for my desktop without needing to install any additional software, so I'd assume so.
-
is there a difference between A Nvidia 9600 GS or Nvidia 9600 GT for gaming nowadays?
id like to play starcraft 2 and diablo 3 in the future... you guys think that the 9600 GS can run both of them?
because if it can i think ill go for the asus MV50-b1.
i have the choice between Asus MV50-B1, sager np2096, HP DV5T -
Nice...thanks for the info!
-
They all suck for today's games. Expect only low settings in games like Oblivion or Bioshock (at the native resolution, of course)
If you want a true gaming laptop, save for the 9800M GT. -
Not true, of course. If they run even at low settings that doesn't mean they suck. But hey, it's a laptop if you want absolutely the highest settings get a desktop with the fastest gpu. To be honest, graphics isn't everything. The game can have abosultely beautiful graphics but gameplay lacking... Same goes for movies, I would rather a watch a good movie in DVD format then splurge $$$ on a BluRay player to watch some sucky BluRay flick.
-
Quick question guys,
The only difference between M50vm-B1 and M50vm-B4 is the blueray drive on the B4 right? -
That is correct. The only feature the B4 has that would be considered an upgrade is the bluray drive.
-
yea.. can someone please explain the differences between all the models? like A1, B1, B2, B4 n all that!
-
A1 - Intel P8400 2.26Ghz (Montevina)/WXGA+(1440x900)/GeForce 9600M GS 1GB/4GB 800mhz RAM /320GB Hard drive/DVDRW optical drive
B1 - Intel T9400 2.53Ghz (Montevina) /WXGA+(1440x900)/GeForce 9600M GS 1GB/4GB 800mhz RAM/320GB hard drive/DVDRW optical drive
B2 - Intel T9400 2.53Ghz (Centrino 2)/WSXGA+(1680x1050)/GeForce 9600M GS 1GB/4GB 800mhz ram/500GB hard drive/DVDRW optical drive
B4 - Intel T9400 2.53Ghz (Centrino 2)/WXGA+(1440x900)/GeForce 9600M GS 1GB/4GB 800mhz ram/320GB hard drive/Blu-Ray Drive -
Why does the A1 not have the new WiFi Link 5100 ?
-
What is the difference between a Centrino 2 platform and Montevina platform?
-
There's no difference.
Montevina=Centrino2
it's the exact same line of processors. -
Did anyone install linux on m50vm? (If so please tell me which one) I tried ubuntu, but it always fail to install during try to partition my hdd...
-
Thanks for the reply. -
there is a difference. Yes you are right that it's the same line of processors, but the difference is Montevina is just a processor, but Centrino 2 also includes 5100 Wireless card.
-
Intel decided to not cause confusion and made the usage Centrino 2 and Montevina interchangeably. They both mean the same thing.
According to Ken at GenTech PCs: " Centrino 2 is: A Montevina based notebook with Intel Wireless Card. (currently not working)
So if the M50VM has a Intel wireless card then it's a Centrino 2. "
If this is correct, then Montevina = Centrino 2, regardless of the wireless card. -
I have the Z-5500s as well, what kind of digital output does the laptop put out on its own? Is it just stereo or is it surround. Any dolby or DTS support?
Oh and where did you get that adapter? -
I think the digital output should be 5.1 at least, but since I've never used it I don't know for sure. You should wait for another answer.
-
I'm just trying to figure out if it's necessary to buy the expresscard X-Fi sound card, it would be a plus if I didn't have to.
