The Nvidia Geforce GT 750M on my laptop does not work. In the device manager it gives me "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" I have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them for both the Intel graphics and the 750M. Is there another way to fix this?

Someone is having the same problem? -
If I remember rightly you can update your BIOS and then it should be working again.
Download the BIOS 206 and the BIOS Utility WinFlash on the support site:
Download
Then install WinFlash, start it, choose the file in the BIOS 206 zip and click Flash.
After this hit Exit and it restarts.
If not restart by yourself.
If this doesn't work, put the BIOS file on C:/ and restart into BIOS.
There choose EasyFlash and search for your file, there are several partitions to choose but I think it was partition 2 which represents C:/
But I can't give you a guarantee on that. -
Hi!
I've had the laptop for a month now and it's serving me really well. But the wifi is a bit annoying, I get only 20megabits while my net is 100megabit so I have been exploring changing the wifi card.
I have a n600 router at home, so was wondering if the Intel 6230 would be a good replacement for the wifi card currently. Or should I get a 7260 just to be future proof? -
My first post here. I have gone through the entire thread and this has been asked a few times. But I havent been able to find a definite answer. I have ordered my n550jv-touchscreen. I am planning on using a hdd caddy to replace my optical drive with a hdd. I have seen a few posts with people complaining that the caddy sticks out a little bit. My question
Has anyone been able to find a caddy that fits perfectly ?
If so please give us links and maybe instructions to get the best fit.
Thank you. -
I got this one, fits perfectly, doesn't stick out: Amazon.com : JacobsParts® 9.5mm SATA Optical Bay Hard Drive Caddy Adapter : Laptop Computer Internal Hard Drives : Computers & Accessories

I just installed a Samsung PRO 256GB SSD and did a clean install of Windows 8. I am having some driver issues: specifically the Asus ATK driver package is conflicting with the Intel HD Graphics. I have tried a combination of different versions of each to no avail.
When I install the ATK drivers, my hotkeys for KB backlight will work, brightness doesn't work. Then when I install the Intel HD Graphics driver and choose not to restart, my hotkeys for KB backlight and brightness will work. As soon as I restart, the hotkeys for the KB backlight will stop working. Anyone have this issue?? -

I tried to get throttlestop because I was playing Chivalry the other day antd it got a little hot and started throttling.
To those who have used it, how did you get it to work on this computer? I tried to install it and it says CPU not supported?
Thanks -
You downloaded the wrong version, you need 6.00 Beta1.
Still, this version is expired and doesn't start anymore.

Got an issue with wifi connectivity. At startup wifi is connected instantly, but after few seconds it gets disconnected. It reconnects automatically in about 15-20 seconds and thereafter has no issues. Happens at every startup, and I think even before I installed intel 7260 wifi card. Although it boots in 15 seconds after ssd upgrade, I still have to wait for wifi to stabalize. Please help.

You can fool the starting time check by changing your clock date to the 30th of September ... and then change the clock back to today's date after it's running. -
I have the non touch version with 840 Evo and Intel 7260, and I also had the same problem. Updating the Wifi driver from Intel's website seemed to have solved the problem for me.

Hello, just got my laptop. Everything is great but hdd noise, I thought it will be much more silent. Did you experienced same thing? Or my machine might be faulty?
I'm sure its hdd as it has this squeezing noise when its seeking, and none in idle.
Thank you. -
A question I have a ASUS N550-JV-CN172H when I bought it said it had a graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 4GB DDR3 VRAM but when i play rome 2 detects me a graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 3072 MB. When I play Shogun 2 detects me a Intel (R) HD 4600 Graphics with 2918MB this is normal should not have 4GB DDR3 VRAM and detect always NVIDEA GeForce GT 750M? -
It should detect 4 GB but honestly before you really need these full 4GB your GPU won't have enough power to do what you want it to do.
For Shogun 2: Rightclick on the link to the EXE and choose the GPU you want to use for the game. If you run it on Steam or simply don't want to do this manually every time go into the NVIDIA Control Panel in your Windows Control Panel and click on Manage 3D Settings and there to Program settings.
There you add your Shogun 2 EXE if not present and set explicitly to let it use the Nvidia GPU.
On the other hand: Are you having performance issues and it feels like the Nvidia GPU is really not used? It might be a simple falsely shown information of Shogun 2, maybe it just takes the primary GPU and shows this regardless of the GPU that is really used. -
Either swap the HDD for a SSD or look for a less noisy HDD (single platter WD models were my favorite choice before SSDs became affordable). -
I have a Hitachi one. I'll try to adapt to this one, and next year will buy an SSD.
Thank you. -

Hey Guys
I just installed BIOS 206, and now the Windows 8 Start Menu is just the usual background colour, but I cant see any tiles. If i click where the tiles would normally be seen, the application opens normally?
Has anyone encountered this problem? I have the Windows 8 start menu, but i'd like to fix it anyways. -
Hey guys. I'm new here. I'm not in the US but I'm thinking of purchasing an N550-JV and then shipping it internationally. I'm a newbie when it comes to laptops, so my question is can the battery be taken out? The problem is the battery is 120W and there are restrictions on shipping lithium batteries that are over 100W. Thanks to anyone who can answer.

The N550JV has vanished from ASUS' web site (other than the support area of course)
I wonder if that means a new iteration of this machine is imminent? -
-
I'm also trying to run an Autodesk program, in this case, ALIAS 2014. I right click on the icon and force it to use the NVIDIA GPU, but always get messages from Alias that my computers specifications are not up to their requirements (it only sees the Intel graphics for some reason).
I wonder if Alias actually uses the GPU or not....how do you tell? -
For those who don't want to wait for a new version of ThrottleStop or didn't use any of the other things of ThrottleStop(like me):
Upon unclewebbs message and me being unsure about him being serious or not I wrote my own minimalistic program that only toggles throttling on/off, not more but not less either.
It only lets popup a commandline window with a short info and a request to hit a button, no GUI.
Works for my 4700MQ and should work for everything else that is supported by ThrottleStop.
If you want to try it, here's a link: ThrottleToggle -
Edit: I started a live chat through the Asus website and asked about this. The support representative told me that the website was being updated and that the N550 webpage is not the only one down. -

hi guys, today I've bought the N550JV CN150H, but sadly I've immediately founde a heavy problem... Since the first startup, it has showed a pixel flickering when moving images, videos or external device pluggin occured.

http://i43.tinypic.com/91039t.jpg
I've also recorded a small video of the bios startup Asus N550JV pixel flickering - YouTube
Apparently the problem is of the display itself, since screenshots of this flickering didn't show anything. The problem occurs both on charging and battery. Has anyone encountered similar problems, maybe found a simple solution? I've already called the shop asking for a new laptop.
P.s.: if I hit f2 on startup, nothing seems to happen and I cannot enter the bios (which I updated to 206). -
i'm currently running my N550JV fanless since i unplugged both fans. I don't game or do anything heavy at the moment, just web browsing and watching movies. Highest temp so far was 49°C on one core after watching a 1080p mkv. God, i enjoy the silence.
I expect this little software (notebookfancontrol) to work soon to control the fans or turn them off with customized settings. i managed to turn off the fan in the EC via RW software so it should work. It doesn't seem to support haswell temps reading right now so it crashes but the next beta should work fine
Will keep you updated.
[Vorstellung] NoteBook FanControl (NBFC) - Seite 31 - ComputerBase Forum -
1. Details on the register used to turn off fan would be nice. The registers used for fan control are the same as the ones in older models like U51VZ or UX32VD, but i haven't managed to turn off auto control (or turn off the fan completely for that matter).
2. Be careful not to activate the NVIDIA card while playing with the EC registers using the RW software, the card's driver will somehow stop responding and will require reinstall (device will be listed as not functional in Device Manager).
If the next beta won't crash we should be able to create a functional profile for the N550JV, we might even do a better job than the somehow strange profile for UX51VZ. -
Hello,
I just received this laptop too: N500JV without the touchscreen option. I replaced the hdd with an SSD so there are no moving parts. However, both fans do come on right away, even when I start the PC and just let it sit idle with nothing running. Before purcashing, I had read the reviews where they said the laptop was silent with no fan noise. Unfortunately this is not the case and it is annoying already.
Please keep us updated on this fan control software and let us know when it is ready for general use.
thanks! -
So, I got this N550JV-DB71 model, and apparently (according to OP) it tends to run at super high temp under heavy load?
Last night, I had a problem where temp went all the way close to 90 degree celsius, with artifacts started to show up on my screen. What baffled me was that I didn't have any CPU/GPU intensive programs in the background at all (lol CPU utilization according to task manager was ~5% during all those time, RAM usage was around 30%). What I did noticed though was that I had Chrome with multiple tabs opened. Is there something wrong with Chrome for Windows 8 that I might not know about?
Anyhow, I played it safe by shutting my computer down for half an hour. After booting it up, the problem was gone for a while, until today. I got this laptop for less than a month ago, but with temperature being this high, I doubt that I can play any game on it before it bursts into flame.
Actually, anyone know about a software that would allow you to control the internal fans? I tried speedfan, but it couldn't find my fans. -
Question for Linux users:
Am I reading this right?
I am new to Linux and trying to get the Nvidia drivers properly installed and running for the GT 750M.
According to the readme file for one of the latest drivers (319.60, Linux x64):
Does this mean that it's just not possible with, say, Ubuntu, to use to GT 750M to directly run the built-in display using Nvidia drivers? -
Coercitiv > You can actually change the fans speed for a few seconds ( Automatic control will quicky override it) via RW by writing a value from 00 to 07 in 151 EC case. 00 will stop the fans and 07 (i believe 7 is the max from memory but not sure it may be 06) will max the fan but only for a few secs before automatic control kicks back so no risk to try it. The purpose of notebookfancontrol (what i understood) is to write values repeatedly at microsecs intervals (EC poll interval tab) to prevent automatic control to kick back. Given that, i have good faith that it'll work with notebookfancontrol updates.

Hey guys....sorry for the n00b question.
I recently purchased a Mushkin 240gb SSD, installed it in the original HD's place, and installed hte original HD (which is a Samsung 1TB) in a crade in the optical drive bay. I cloned the C: partition over to the new SSD, so now I have Win 8 and all my programs on the new SSD, ready to go.
I understand that I have to use the Win 8 recovery tool to get the PC to boot from the new SSD, but how do I go about doing that? In the BIOS, I tried to force the PC to boot from the new SSD, but it doesnt show up under the BOOT options. I do see the HD in the BIOS tho (under drives).
So how can I disable the old drive and force the PC to boot to the new SSD (I have the Win 8 recover USB stick ready to go)? Other than taking the thing apart again and disconnecting the old HD, is there a temporary way to disable the old HD?
I was going to format the C: drive and just wipe the old OS completely, but obviously it wont let me do that while I'm running windows.
Thanks! -
Alright scratch that. I re-formatted the new SSD, created a Win 8 recovery USB stick (with recovery partition), removed the old HDD and tried to do a fresh install.
The Win 8 installation menu comes up, but when I try to do a "RESET" (clean win 8 install) it keeps telling me "the required drive partition is missing" and will not let me do anything. This is getting frustrating! -

Well, after all that, I used Paragon's software to clone the drive, and it worked beautifully! Cloned the drive and did all the bootloading stuff. So I just re-booted, set the new SSD as 1st on bootup and voila! It worked like a charm. Very impressed.
BTW, this thing is bloody FAST with an SSD. Wow! -
Did you get to the bottom of this problem because i am suffering from it as well??

Hi guys,
I'm not sure if someone already asked this on this thread and I'm kindda new to this forum as well. The Asus N550 looks really thick compared to let's say the HP touchsmart eventhough the thickest point on the HP is 1.18". What are your guys opinions and personal experiences on this? Also is it completely better than the touchsmart 15t? Thanks lots  -
Finally the N550 came out, and I gotta say, this thing is damn near perfect! It's a tad thick and heavy, but its not bad. Plus the screen is FANTASTIC, the build quality is very solid and even the keyboard is a joy! I'd highly recommend it. -
Uh, never mind my previous reply. I just realized that the temp was kinda normal for this model.
Anyhow, can anyone recommend me a good cooling pad for this model? I tried to play CS:S and it was fine, except that once temp started to climb up really high, the game then started to stutter as well.
I am told that a Notepal U2 plus (an upgraded version of the U2) is a good one. Can anyone here vouch for it?
