    Check for BIOS update.
Both VGA drivers will need to be up-to-date.
    And then the Chipset driver.

    Hi guys,

Could anyone tell me if this machine supports a 2560x1440 monitor (via displayport), a 1920x1080 monitor (via hdmi), and the laptop monitor all running at the same time? I searched but couldn't find an answer.

    Thanks in advance

Yes, if it's a DisplayPort then it can handle that resolution, and HDMI is limited to 1920 x 1080 or 1920 x 1200.
DP is not a legacy connectivity so it should allow you to run all three monitors including the laptop screen at the same time.

hey, did any of you have problems with the speakers? I have a n750jv and just noticed that the left speaker does not play well.. it sounds like the balance is more on the right one but realtek hd audio controller shows a 50/50 balance...
and it happens also when earphones are plugged in. So I guess it is not a problem of the speakers.

Are you guys able to make calls (ie on Skype) with a headphone with built-in mic such as those made for cell phones?

I tried a few sets that work fine with my phone but the mic isn't working with the N550. In mic settings, I don't get any options aside from default when the set is plugged in.

    Hey all,

Just got my DB72T. I immediately threw a Samsung 840 Pro into it and did a fresh install of Windows 8.1. So far I'm loving every moment of it.

Two questions for anyone who may have advice for me, though. Firstly, I thought it came with a Blu Ray player. Mine came with a DVD-RW drive only. Is there some way to upgrade it in the future?

Secondly, I can't find drivers for the Realtek card reader that will work, literally anywhere. Any thoughts? This is kind of a pain in the butt because I rely on that card reader for my music, as I don't want to rely on a USB stick that protrudes from the side of the laptop while it gets carried around in my backpack (I'm a student).

    Hi,

I am selling my blueray drive on ebay at the moment. Brand new taken off the N550JV, never used. You can check it by following this link.

You can download the card reader driver by following the link in this blog.

I'm having some issues with 2-finger scrolling. Most of the time, it works fine. Maybe 1 time out of 10, when I lift my fingers off the pad, the page will scroll toward the top, as if my fingers were the only thing holding the page against gravity. It seems to happen most often after I've been making small motions, such as moving the screen to adjust while reading. It really appears as though the page is falling, and it moves quickly. Touching the pad stops this, but it's annoying. I never know when it's going to happen.

I have tried to replicate it, thinking that it might be some unintended motion of mine causing this, but I can't get it to happen, intentionally. Does anybody know what's going on?

    Thanks!

No, I sure haven't. I'm not a pro user, so swapping drivers isn't something I'd do without consult.

Version V2.2.5, here? ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download N550JV

And the ATK kit? ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download N550JV

And there may be issues with IRST or the video drivers, while installing the ATK?

I'll need to remove the driver prior to updating with 2.2.5?

Any help you can give is appreciated.

Hello I just got my brand new N550JV and then the problems started with gt750m. First the code43 error which was fixed only by bios update to 208. Everything looked good after the upadte.... But now all the time when 750m should be used it gives me a 116 bsod. Any ideas? Would appreciate some help.

But does it (or the Nvidia 750) support 4K at 60Hz? Theoretically DisplayPort and both GPUs should have the technical capability... but I'd love to know for sure before I plunk down $800 for a 4K monitor.

Downloading and installing "10-Atheros Multi-Card Reader Driver 4.3.0.7" does not have any effect on my machine. It installs software that I can see in add/remove programs, but I still get a Windows Action Center message telling me to install card reader drivers. This agrees with the Device Manager, where I can see "PCI Simple Communications Controller" with a yellow exclamation point sign.

What the hell is going on!

Have anyone managed to get rid of that extremely annoying popping/crackling/whatever sound the speakers make while playing sound on some frequencies?
Someone here suggested to remove Realtek Audio drivers, and although it is taking care of the problem it also stops the subwoofer from working.
Please don't tell me it's been over half a year and we still don't have an answer from Asus about this issue.

    Hi guys,

I'm thinking about getting this laptop, mainly for work (mostly ms office, with sometimes heavy load calculations (Computational Fluid Dynamics)), multimedia and to a lower extent non-demanding video games. The review says the screen is just perfect (valid for non-touchscreen version).
I would replace the built-in HDD with the Samsung 840 Pro 512Go SSD.
I really like Asus laptops' designs (zenbooks particularly except there is no 15.6" version), but I don't know if their laptops really stand in the long run. Should I wait for other ASUS laptop realeases/check out other? What are you thoughts/advices?

    Thanks,
    V

Actually, I am. I'm on the 6.0.1.7156 and although the popping is not as frequent as it was a few versions back it is still present.
EDIT: Just tried to switch the driver with the older one and the problem is as frequent as on the new driver.

    Hi guys,

First off all: my apologies for my English. I'm from The Netherlands and not a native English speaker ;)

I'm proud owner of the N550JV (CN270H) since the last 3 weeks.
I love the notebook, it functions very well. I had a 'mondaymorning' MSI notebook before this one and it's a whole different world.
The only thing I could say anything about would be some small build flaws (on mine at least), like touchpad with nonpressable right corner, DVD rom that sticks out, subwoofer port.... BUT I don't care much about these things. It does what it should and more and I'm really content, so I would be crazy to turn it in for things that I can easily live with.

I do have one question though: does your 'instant key' on the left feel different on pressing then the power button to the right? They look the same (except for the light on the power button), but the instant key is like a light, soft press, while the power button actually makes like a sort of click sound when pressed. It's like they look the same, but don't act the same underneath.

Is that how it's supposed to be? I can imagine the power button working probably differently mechanically, but since I have some more 'not kinda how it should be'-thingies, I wondered. Because a power button that doesn't work how it should, could turn into something not very practical. ;)

So I'm checking if I should keep an eye on this or I should just relax, because it's perfectly normal :)

    Thanks!

Hello everyone. I'm also a proud user of the n550jv series and today i'm going to write my experience with this awesome notebook :

First things first.. sorry if i make any english mistakes but considering i'm from brazil i hope my english is good enough :) In case i do please feel free to correct me and teach me the correct way.

The notebook case itself is awesome, clean and looks quite nice as well. The touchpad is good and the keyboard keys are easy to use and nice to type in.

However as a lot of people already pointed out i'm also having problem with :

    - baterries
    - Video card
    - Bios
    - Drivers update

I had to read all 168 pages in order to make sure i'm up to the topic and i did manage to find most of the solutions and i really really REALLY apreciate your guys support even though this is my first post :p.

However there are two things i'm not understanding.. my videocard does not look to be working properly :

    http://i.imgur.com/HcSgGCx.jpg
    http://i.imgur.com/g9mykJl.jpg
    http://i.imgur.com/XcwgknT.jpg

The clock speed and mem speed does not seems to working on full power. am i doing somenthing wrong ? I know that the 750m is not really a gaming gcard and more like a multimidia one but it is indeed underperformancing and i dont know why.

About the fan speed : I tried every single fan speed control programs in attempt to make my fan works as they should be working but noone of the tools detected my notebook. I was checking on this topic and o found out that the notebookfancontrol posted by some german dude should work :p ( I will try when i get back home and reply here ).

The bios update : How do i update my bios properly ? its still on factory default as i could not manage to update properly .

Are those issues common on 550jv or its just my notebook issue ? i bought it few weeks ago and i really need to know if its just my notebook and i have to send it to the warrancy or its a common issue that i can fix on my own.

Also i dont know why my notebook keep saying " plugged in not charging " on 99%. i'm 100% sure i selected power4gear on high performance.

Thank you guys for helping everyone here. Loved this place already ! Dont be afraid to tell me to try stuff :p i'm all open for tests.

Just tried that. No avail. It's just so frustrating to hear that noise every time I'm listening to music or watching a movie. It's most obvious when clicking on the volume bar.
What driver are you using man? If anyone has any ideas on this please share it as I am slowly turning bald from this notebook, and caught myself even considering selling this laptop and switching to Macbook, even though I love it.

I'm in the market for a new laptop and have narrowed it down to this n550jv or the q550lf (both touchscreen) I've read most of this thread and was wondering which y'all would suggest for casual gaming? I play mostly mmo's. WoW, gw2, and wildstar basically. I am going to replace the hdd and wifi card in either one. The n550 has a better processor and graphics card but has issues with throttling. Would the q550's ultrabook processor and gt745 be ok or should I get the n550 and tweak the throttling?

Edit: I know that these are multimedia laptops not specifically designed for gaming. I have a desktop and don't want a 17", 20lb, $2k monstrosity to cart around everyday.

I've been having the keyboard problem since I got this notebook back in August... the b,n, left shift, space, and numeric 0 buttons will intermittently not work, and I push around on the keyboard until they start again. It's been getting worse so I started googling for info, and came across the fix in this thread.

I just tried it out, and now those keys are completely non-responsive no matter how I push on the keyboard. I put it back the way it was, no change. Tried it without the battery, no change. If I put pressure on the ribbon while pushing it back towards the keyboard side, if that makes sense, then I can get some response. So I guess it's either a bad ribbon or loose connection on the keyboard end.

I took down the part number and will buy a new ribbon. In the meantime, anybody have any idea where I can find a complete teardown guide for this model, or how much effort will be required to get to the keyboard connector? Or should I just be sending it back to Asus under warranty? I've built my own desktop PCs for years, but have never tinkered much with laptops beyond drive swaps and RAM upgrades.

One of the reasons that led me to try the keyboard fix was the rather high chance of not being able to prove the defect, meaning the keyboard could have just started working while the engineer was testing the unit.

If your connector or ribbon is damaged in such a way that changing the angle doesn't help, I think you should send the unit back under warranty. I strongly suggest not to tinker with the laptop beyond the parts we can easily disassemble (high risk, low chance of reward).

Both the Nvidia and Intel GPUs have variable clock speed. I suggest using an ultility like GPU-Z to easily monitor your dGPU if you have any doubts about it not working properly. You should observe a minimum GPU clock speed of 135Mhz. Nominal speed should be 900MHz, turbo boost being somewhere above 1000Mhz. Memory clock will vary between 405Mhz and 900Mhz. Make sure your dGPU is active while testing.

NBFC - Notebookfancontrol is the only software i know that works with Asus N550JV. The only negative impact it can have is delaying other programs while computer is starting up. One can mitigate this by setting the NBFC service to start delayed (Computer Management > Services > Select NBFC service > Set Start-up type to Automatic - Delayed)

Download bios update and place it on an USB flash disk. Enter BIOS and start the update utility, select the BIOS update from the flash disk and make the update. Some previous Asus units had issues with updating from a disk inside the system (internal HDD for example), but this seems to have been resolved with this model. I made my updates by placing the bios update on the system disk without any issues. Using an USB stick still seems the safest way though.

The unit will only charge the battery after it drops under 95%. It is a safety mechanism meant to prevent battery stress and aging.

Yes if you repeatedly charge the battery from 98% to 100% for instance it will wear it down.

    Hello,
I am a newbie to laptops and just got this laptop the other day. I am trying to find more information about using HDD Candy. I have been going through the forum but going through 170 pages seems to be too time consuming.

I want to put a SSD as the main drive to be used by system and softwares/games and HDD for media. So here are my question and I hope it doesn't sound too dumb:

    1) Is it safe to use HDD candy? In the sense does it effect the system or the hard disk badly in anyway?
    2) How does using HDD candy effect the battery life per charge cycle? It is significant like a reduction of 1 hr or is it less?
    3) Does it effect the heat produced by the laptop when using both?
    4) And is there any effect on the noise level?

Would really appreciate it if someone could help me out to clear the doubts.
    Thank you

    1. Yes, it is safe to use a HDD caddy. It's simply utilizing the same SATA channel used by the ODD therefore there's no difference except the physical interface.
    2. It depends on what type of drive you put into caddy, you can find spec of your drive to determine the wattage required for the drive, then calculate the reduction of battery life, however it should be minor or barely noticeable.
    3. Not much, since it's going to be in a space of its own.
    4. Not at all.

    Hello

I have a N550JV and installed a brand new SSD.
I am trying to install Windows 7. No way : the Asus boots onto the DVD and stay blocked on "Starting Windows" for hours ...
I tried with 2 different DVD and with the internal optical drive and an external USB DVD drive with the same results.
I looked into the BIOS suspecting something wrong with it but did not discover anything special ...

So how did you manage to install Windows 7 ? is there any special trick ?

    Thanks

Possibly a bad Windows disc? You can download and burn a new .iso to see if that helps Download Windows 7 ISO (Official 32-bit and 64-bit Direct Download Links) « My Digital Life

Oh sorry overlooked that you mentioned you already tried 2. You can check to see in the BIOS that the SATA connection type is AHCI, it shouldn't matter but wont hurt to check and try.
