Why doesn't Asus give us any upgrades on our support driver DL page...
-
-
This is general problem with ASUS they rarely update the support page.
-
Ya, people should file some big time complaints to them so they get on it.
-
I have the 64bit driver.
I followed the post here http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=279&threadid=130752. It worked.
-
Yes, at least they should fix the ASUS Update utility.
It is worthless. It never finds any updates.
-
I wouldn't for the simple reason that if electricity goes down you can still have time to make a save and avoid losing 1 hour of advance or so.
-
I think overall the drivers should be updated only when needed. For example I have not had any issues with the USB 3.0, are the touchpad functions. Am I lucky? I don't think so, just that maybe my laptop came with newer drivers than others.
As far a BSODs are concerned, I only got 2 and they were due to incompatible versions of other softwares (like the Tages DRM). -
MMmmmm... Free... *drool*
-
I say, post the exact link to the ASUS site for the N61's driver page and be done with it. Driver leaks and non-recommended drivers can lead to potential problems which the thread can be blamed for. It is one thing to post a driver and say, "Hey! Look what I found!", and quite another to say "Here are THE drivers!".
In other words, this thread influences a lot of people. We may need to make sure we stay "official" with a few things. -
I've tried this procedure several times this morning... and it is still Bricked...
No new ideas before i send it back to asus service ?
Does anyone know if the bios chip is soldered on the N61JQ mainboard ?
I'm very frustrated here...
Thanks -
Wow... there are a lot of drivers floating around. How do you keep up to date on this stuff!?
Also, has there been any major differences with the newest video card driver? -
It's really sad but I think the bios flash got corrupted.
This happened to me once about three years ago.
The notebook hanged during flashing. I had to remove the battery to power it down and after that it was totally dead.
I think you don't have much an option except to send it back for repair.
ASUS would have to replace the complete mainboard for you since the bios is soldered onto the board.
Don't tell them that it died due to flashing the bios otherwise they will charge you the price of a new mainboard + repairing costs + shipping.
Just act ignorant and tell them the notebook is not starting. Most probably it will work. Usually they can not find out that it died due to bad flash.
At least it worked for me 3 years ago.
Good luck.
-
maybe he can clear the CMOS by opening the case ? worth a try.

See how right I was!
It is from the same link now you have provided:
You unnecessarily argued with me. Did you take the time and read the link you provided! -
King of Rapture Notebook Consultant
Thank you Greg!
It is already delivered in New York. I will have it around 4th May, 2010. Everyday is a long wait, but the good news is that it is not very long now. I am also getting an iPad and a Kindle. So, lots of toys to play with.
As soon as I have hands on, I surely will post a review and also try to compare it to my Asus UL50Vt-A1.
Wow, we are to 337 pages! -
I am not sure if it will work.
It could be worth a try if the CMOS battery could be reached easily.
Usually, it is far to reach without taking the whole bottom side of the NB apart.
-
I would like to pick up a 1080p / 1920 x 1200 monitor for my N61JQ sometime. Any recommendations? [I would be thinking 22+- a few inches].
-
Sorry King of Rapture, I didn't know we were arguing. I thought we were having a good discussion about it. In normal situations I was saying I don't think it will help. In this case however, when other things have been tried and do not work, well everything becomes open game.
Also no I didn't read every post in that forum, I used that link primarily because it linked to some removal software and provided advice for a stubborn driver. -
why does amazon.com sell asus n61jq x1(320gb) higher price than a1(500gb)?sorry for my english hope you ll understand
-
It looks like Amazon doesn't have any stock and is only selling through the Marketplace (from other resellers). That company just charges too much for the X1
-
Thanks so much for the Help TurboGear and Risco
I'm sending the N61JQ back for repairs...
-
thanks stevedogg i got it
-
I find myself cleaning the screen every time I use the laptop. It easily attracts dust and it annoys me. Also, dust gets caught on the small rubber part of each side and top.
Oh men. -
I saved my last laptop from a bad BIOS flash using an emergency flash disk. Some BIOS contain an un-flashable block that contains enough information to run an emergency flash program off of a floppy. Sort of a last ditch resort before declaring the notebook dead.
-
Does the n61 bios has that feature?
-
Good news. I am back from Radio Shack with a new MultiMeter. One of the test leads tips came off so they gave me a nice set of test leads for it for free. Yes, FREE!!!
Now I get to hunt for 5V! -
It is going to be interesting to see if it will shut off. I do not think it will even with function keys. There is a certain spot where the G60 tags for power and the function key disables that power source. We need to find out where the g60 finds power at....may be the only way to get it to adjust...and not always stay on. Or the function key may shut off the power directly after the keyboard and it may work.... I dont know ?
-
Yes, I think the challenge is to make the function keys to work. So that the light could be turned off when not needed.
I believe it is going to be difficult. I think in the G60 model the keyboard light's dedicated power port is software controlled which makes the lights to turn off using function keys.
I think the guys who did the mode for UL30 has the lights always on.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=465841 -
I wonder if he could try loading up the G60 function key software on the UL30 and see if it may work ?
-
So Sad...maybe one day I will get my laptop back. It was 2-3 weeks like 2 weeks ago so I guess its another 2 weeks. Blah.
This email to inform you the status of your notebook that you send to us under RMA#******* Unfortunately, there is a delay to repair your laptop because we dont have motherboard in stock. We already ordered part but it will take longer than we normally do, estimate 2-3 weeks delay. We are apologizing for this matter and appreciate your understanding. -
as you may know, the ati 10.4 preview drivers are out for our cards to fix the battlefield bc2 slow map loading problem... but, im having trouble installing it =/ the installer runs but fails to install the display driver.. anyone else having this problem?
-
Ya it wont work because its only for desktops.
-
ohh, weaksauce!!
-
Very disappointing indeed.
-
Look back in the thread. I did that a few days ago. No power for the back-light at all. Nothing got the function keys working. I installed all of the G60's ATK and keyboard filter software.
So, I am going to check voltages this weekend and see if there is a 5V current coming out of the connection at all. It may be that the keyboard power connections need adjusting.
Just wont know until I try that. -
My main problem is the notebook did not show any lights. No power or response at all.
To every owner of N61JQ take care with bios updates that are not oficially released ! -
No, I was talking about a guy with a UL-30 try and load up the G60 atk software and see if he can get them to adjust. Someone that has already found a power source but the keyboard just stays on.
-
I got lucky with mine
. I flashed it the same way you did, through BIOS. Did you use a USB stick? Which port did you plug it into (the USB 3.0 on the left, or one of the others)?
-
Ahhh. Well, at least I already tried it. ;-)
Since the keyboard's power connector has 4 connections, I think there is more then just power and ground. Checking the connections on the N61's side, they are GND?, 5V, 5V, 5V. The first connection could control the keyboard and not be a ground. I am not sure how the G51 is but, Donald does have one at the shop.
I am already wondering if the drivers for the keyboard check the systems model to activate the back-light ability. Since the power is live on the N61's side, this could be an area that we need to investigate.
I spoke with Donald and he received his keyboard today. He is going to start working on his tomorrow, when he has a chance to escape from the business for a few hours. He has my cell number so we should be able to sync up then and get things progressing. Since he has a G51, he help is beneficial to the success of this.
Last, I could have fried my keyboard since I have had a few times where the sparks flew and the system immediately turned off.
Once, it took about 5 minutes before the system came on again.
This is because things are so tiny that a slight slip means things get crossed.
Anyway, I have the G51 keyboard on now. I am going to play with the drivers for a little bit. -
Hi guys, my A1 should be coming in next week, so other than Risco's calibration file, what else should I start downloading before it arrives? (I'm on a 512k connection)
-
The best way to work with SMD components is under the microscope.
If you were living near me I could have helped you out. I have a complete lab available to do such things at the university where I work. As an RF engineer I am dealing with such components very often.
-
Really the only thing worth updating is the touchpad driver, graphics card and also install flash 10.1 beta. I mention flash as it fixes a bug where the touchpad stops responding on three finger swipe left and right in firefox. The touchpad driver enables you to do two finger scroll in windows media player and other windows apps that the default driver does not.
-
Ok so I reformatted and now I can actually update my drivers. It's amazing. I have no idea what went wrong with the last install. Only issue I'm having now is that the Power2Go Suite refuses to install. It only installs the CD label maker. Nothing else. Running the install packages by themselves causes an error. I've yet to find anything useful on Google regarding it.
Oh, and even after the reformat I'm still having the issues with games that I posted a while back. I guess I'll just have to live with it.
Edit: I still haven't figured out how to use Risco's calibration file. Can anyone give me directions? -
Here's how you can do it yourself, to your liking: calibration

Put down the Dumbell Tony !!
-
Turbogear, I think it is worth noting that even though you own an N71 you still spend a lot of time in this Lounge helping N61 owners. Thanks for your contributions here and I have you listed as a major contibutor on the first page.
-
Real sorry this happened to you. All because of an irresponsible post by vostro1400user. I reported it and he was listed as banned in all the lounges he was posting in. I just checked again and he is not listed as banned anymore. If you have not already I would report that post and explain what happened to you. Good luck and let us know how it goes if you end up sending it back.
-
Thanks David you stated what I was thinking a lot better than I did.
So its a no go for listing driver updates on the first page. And I think that if you can't find the driver updates on the Asus site than you probobaly should not be doing them. And why send someone to a drivers update link that rarely has any. So no go on the link also.
-
I actually got a successful upgrade with his link. Maybe I should count myself lucky. I had no idea at the time that it would automatically start to flash the bios.
-
I am glad it worked out for you Deathwinger. I'm not saying that the bios link does not work or that one should not use it. But to post it with no description or warning seems malicious to me. If it was a mistake you would think that there would be an apology or some expression of remorse, and we saw none of that.
