run high voltage through it, that way it will fry harddrive and board and then bust the screen with a sledge, that should take care of the dirty screen. lol, sorry man; I hope you get it fixed soon.

I decided to pull out the email that they decided to pass off AGAIN and start my nasty emails to them about the 2 year warranty. I know I pi**ed them off last time. They don't treat any of us like this!

I feel much better...now! My scope on the 22 is set at 40 yards but I decided to have some fun and take shots at 80 - 100 yards.

make it look like an accident though. you could drop it out of a 10 story building and just say you were on the balcony and had your laptop resting on the rail and it slipped.

Congrats. I am still around 150.

You know, I think that now you have abused your ASUS, they are going to finally make right by you. It seems that the more you help them, the more they suck to you.

You were in here helping people long before you ordered your N61. Even after each RMA, you were still supportive of ASUS. They screwed you.

I wrote a very promising review of their server motherboard back in 2002. It sold thousands of them (I wonder if it is in the Internet Archive). I have been here helping people and helping sell their N61. They are now blowing off my emails.

Greg has been supporting them not only by posting in this forum but, he created this forum and it was because the other forums he created needed focus. He has been screwed by their warranty. No, I am not excusing NewEgg's part in that but, ASUS still has the 2 year warranty BS on their web page.

If we were in here trashing them, I think these problems wouldn't have happened. I am starting to get upset again!

Update: I found it in the Internet Archive. It's missing pictures and the formatting is all messed up but, at least I found it. It was my first review to have over a million hits. It was my first 15 minutes of Internet fame. I was just reading it a little. It was back when I was married.

    I hope you're joking!

    From ADW site:

Covered: Surge, fire, drop, and spill.

NOT covered (not limited to): scratches and dents, incorrect or inadequate customer installation, lost or stolen, intentional damage, recovery or transfer of data stored on the notebook, damages caused by acts of God or nature.

David is right you have a 30 day no dead pixel warranty. After that you would be at the mercy of screwegg. Translation- you would be screwed!

Check with ASUS, but I think it has to be a bright dot (not a dead, or black, pixel). "The notebook comes with the ASUS 360 service program that includes a 2 year global warranty, one month zero bright dot guaranty, free two-way standard shipping, twenty-four hour tech support seven days a week, and a one year accidental damage warranty, protecting the notebook from drops, fire, spills and surge." ( Link to the A1 on Amazon). BTW, Amazon has the A1 at the old price ($1066) with 11 in stock.

I'm glad you still have your sense of humor Tony. I think we all feel your frustration. Seriously though I don't think it would be wise to consider using the ADW after 3 RMA's. Have you talked to Donald? It seems to me he should be helping you get a replacement or a refund. I would not settle for anything less. We have heard a lot of complaints about asus service. I always wondered if they were true or just people with agendas. I guess I have my answer. I am going to put all your posts on this in a special section of the first page. Maybe Someone at ASUS or PowerNotebooks will see this and do something to make this right.

    No problem :)

Ok I did it. So with 2.4 ghz it's saying 144.0 Mbps and for 5.0 ghz I'm getting 300.0 Mbps(!). I didn't know the difference would be that big, but I'm not seeing any real world difference. Can't say I'm doing anything too network intensive right now though.

Edit: Ok, I did just watch a Youtube video in HD and it seemed to load a lot faster than before. If there's anything else you want me to test out let me know.

Thank's that's great bro. I'm going to update my card. I think 300 mbps is the maximum for wireless but I'm not sure. I know when I was messing around in my router settings you could up that 300 number but I don't know if it would help the wireless. :spinny:

Great good luck upgrading your card man! And I know for me at least it probably won't help my connection at all right now. Even when wired I was barely getting above the speeds I listed above in terms of real world speed.

    Hi everyone,
I'm newbie here, I just have this laptop for about one month. So far I'm happy with it. However, I am having the system freeze a lot.I already installed Intel matrix storage manager but not so helpful. Mostly it happens when I enter the sleep mode. I wake the computer up but nothing happen, only a black screen. So I have to force to turn it off by holding power button for few seconds. it will happen 2 or 3 time freeze after everything back to normal. FN+ESC button also definitely makes it freeze.
It really worries me. Could someone please give me a suggestion what I should do. Thanks in advance.

Sorry about my english, I'm from Indonesia :)

    Cheers..

Even so you must prefer 300mbps over 144mbps. You might not always notice the difference but how could that not help. I just got into my router and 300mbps is the maximum connection speed for wireless. Since I'm only getting 150mbps with this wireless card because it does not support 5.0ghz, I think it is worth it to upgrade the card. Thank's again brochiller I have been waiting to get this information ever since I first connected my N61.

Welcome to the Lounge! And don't worry about your English.
Have you updated your display driver to version 10.3 ? http://go.notebookreview.com/?id=52...um.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=456659
I think there was some reports here of help with freezes after coming out of sleep mode with this driver. If all else fails you could try using the restore partition to go back to factory settings and see if that helps. Keep us update and I'm sure you will hear from some of the other owners that had to deal with this issue.

Uninstall what is unnecessary for you.I removed asus bank, asus webstore, update manager, asus screensaver and fancy start and also cleaned the startup:

Don't uncheck all start-up items. There are some very important things like Windows OS or drivers.

Do you own a N61JQ model? If so, the latest BIOS is version 208. You can download it here (filename is N61JqAS208.zip). Unzip the N61JqAS.208 file to a USB flash drive. Insert the drive into one of the USB ports (I recommend any of them except the USB 3.0 port on the front left). Reboot the computer. At the beginning of the boot, press F2 to enter BIOS. Find the EasyFlash utility in BIOS and start it. There will be a list of drives on the left (with strange labels). Just highlight them until you find the one that corresponds to the USB flash drive. You should see the BIOS update file on the right pane (N61JqAS.208). Double check that your laptop is plugged in (not on battery). Select it and choose flash. DO NOT TOUCH THE COMPUTER FOR ANY REASON UNTIL THE FLASH IS COMPLETE! EasyFlash will give you an option to shut down the system when it is complete. Select that option, wait a little bit, then start the laptop.

BIOS version 208 will fix the Fn+ESC crash problem and may help with stability issues.

Could you please log the temps both cpu and gpu during gaming, and post it here?

I envy people whose their n61 have as5 or ic diamond. Mine came with the stock thermal compound and I frequently see the gpu reach as high as 90C and cpu 81-88C.

The biggest advantage I see of the 64bit OS is that it allows to use higher amount of RAM.

For my VMware applications, the 8GB ram is much better than 3.2GB offered by 32bit.

I am using Windows 64bit since the days when Vista came out first. I don't see too much problems with the stability.

I have also very often stressed out my machine with all sorts of programs running at the same time when a Matlab simulation and Ubuntu under VMware are running.

So far it never showed up any instability. Except for a few driver problems that I had to sort out in the beginning, but that is normal. It is not related to Win 7 64bit only. In my experience every OEM PC I bought always needed some tweaking.

What I do like is to always install a fresh copy of windows when I buy a new machine. I am not found of OEM versions that are full of crapware in the beginning.

I found my notebook takes an abnormally long time to resume from sleep and hibernation, while I'm waiting the screen is black but eventually I get back to the login prompt. Be patient and give your computer a good 5 minutes or so to resume. This is important to determine if it has really crashed or is merely just lagging.

Next step is to nail down what is causing the problem. Do a search on google to see if you can find similar issues and read about what causes them. If you can't find anything at first, try changing some of your search terms. You do have an antivirus program active and do regular scans right?

Next, take a step-by-step approach to fixing the problem. First, remove all external devices plugged into your laptop. Unplug anything from the USB, eSATA ports, any external monitors and take any disks out of the DVD drive. Pot your computer to sleep and wake it back up. See if that fixes the problem.

If it doesn't, the next step is to disable any advanced power saving features. Turn off hybrid-sleep mode under the advanced windows power profiles.

Next, try closing any software running on your computer, all the ASUS programs, everything. If this fixes the problem than you can try starting up the software one-by-one until the problem comes back.

If that doesn't fix things, your last resort is to go into the device manager and disable any devices that aren't essential, kill the DVD drive, ethernet, wireless, USB. If it fixes the problem then start re-enabling devices till the problem comes back.

Not true. Nothing in the msconfig Startup menu is essential to running your computer. Unless you just absolutely can't live with out the windows sidebar. I wouldn't recommend disabling your antivirus program though.

    @mikele
You make some astute points, unfortunately your credibility is severely diminished by your complete disrespect for the English language and smarmy trollish attitude.
On the other hand, get off your stupid high horse and on the bandwagon. The only future 32bit systems have is planned obsolescence. We know you had a crappy time with XP64 and it's awful driver support but it's time to wake up. Win 7 64bit is here to make things all better now. 64bit drivers are everywhere now and every component in the N61 is guaranteed to have them. The only incompatible programs are compiled for 16bit systems aka DOS, I can count the number of times I've run into this problem on one finger. 32bit software is by no means confused by a 64bit system. Read on to find out why you're living in the past though I doubt you have the attention span for it.
Of course the drivers run under 32bit mode on a 32bit OS. Just as they run in 64bit mode in a 64bit OS. And no, the drivers don't run in 32bit mode under a 64bit OS.
The main benefits of a 64bit OS aren't in the physical memory your computer actually has, but rather the memory that your computer pretends to have. Windows files and devices are mapped to memory address spaces which are limited to a measly 4gb by 32bit architectures. Let's look at a case sample, you have 4gb of ram in a 32bit machine. Windows components and DLLs have to be mapped to memory which is no longer addressable. Let's say they take up 512mb of memory, your usable system memory has just dropped to 3.5gb. Let's add a new graphics card to the system with 1gb of onboard video memory. Guess what, that video memory has to be mapped as well. We're left with 2.5gb of memory that can be used by programs. Factor in additional hardware memory mappings and the memory available to the OS and programs drops down to about 2gb. Keep in mind that any method used to get around these issues is a filthy, dirty hack to compensate for architecture and hardware limitations.

Files can also be mapped to memory. Any time you virtualize a filesystem, ie. burning a DVD, running a virtual machine or mounting an ISO as a virtual disk, the file is mapped to memory. When you have files over 4gb and only 4gb of address space things get messy. Under a 64bit OS you can map your entire computer hard drive in memory several times over and never come into conflict with address space reserved for your operating system, physical memory, or hardware mappings.

Did I mention that 64bit windows offers additional kernel and memory protection designed to keep malicious programs from injecting their own code into the Windows kernel or other software's memory. Guess what, they're not available in 32bit windows.

much thanks to 2MNY for the explanation about RAM. I'm sure that just explained how computers work to a lot of people, myself included.
