If I am not wrong, I believe that the link you provided is for the desktop version. Try, to download the
ATI 10.5 Mobility 64-bit driver.
Speaking for myself, I downloaded the 10.4 driver, and installed it without uninstalling, and faced no problems(However the newer Catalyst Control Panel wasn't installed in express setup mode).
QUOTE=2MNY;6311318]ATI used to offer several driver packages on their site, one with CCC and one without. Seems now the only choices are to download the full bundle of CCC by itself. You can still opt to install just the drivers when you run the installer but I agree that a smaller driver package would be nice to have.[/QUOTE]
Ok. Not exactly what I meant. I was wondering whether there is an a way to download the full CCC bundle(10.5) from another computer, and then copy the setup to my laptop and
install.(So, basically do an offline installation)
PS:
1. After reinstalling the Catalyst 10.4, I was able to finally get the contrast and brightness settings in Desktops and Display.
2.Updating to the latest ATK drivers, fixed the problem of the volume hotkeys not working.
3. " and @ key being interchanged problem was solved by deleting all the languages I had, and then choosing US Keyboard layout. Thanks, stevedogg. (Before, I had just changed to English-India->US Keyboard Layout).

I get stable 88~100Mbps transfer rates with eSATA I expect these are the read and write limits for my internal and external drives. It's clearly faster than USB.
-
Easy. The download tool saves the Catalyst install files to a folder like C:\ATI.
Find the folder, zip up it's contents, copy zip file to thumbdrive, unzip file anywhere on your laptop and run the setup program. -
Have you tried this fix, mentioned here and here.
Especially, check out the second page of the first link.(I personally didn't notice any perceptible difference in general or gaming performance , though I haven't tried GTA 4 yet;But have heard that this fix is required for those having problems with WoW). -
Sorry, I didn't get you. When I download the full Catalyst Software Suite, it initially downloads only a (around) 1.1 MB file, on executing which, its contents are extracted to the C:\ATI. (The extracted contents would still be only around 2 MB)
Now, from what I understand, if I copy that setup program and copy in my laptop, I would still need Internet connnection to download the 70 MB ".exe" full CC file?
I need to directly download that 70 MB ".exe" file to the other laptop.(which is 32-bit and doesn't have the radeon card). Is it possible? -
Follow 2MNY's advice to copy the file, or download from a 3rd party site like Station-Drivers.

eSATA enclosure need eSATA cable + Power cable.. there is no power in eSATA cable but only data. it's very annoying...
-
I'm using a 2.5" drive with USB power. Unfortunately, the data cable alone is insufficient to power the drive (Samsung SpinPoint). I have to plug a USB power cable AND the data plug to use the drive. Still nicer than having to plug into the wall
-
It stutters for me if I set shadows higher than medium, on my N61, if I keep them on medium all is ok....
-
eSATA must have 2 separate cable, one for data and one for power (wall or usb..)
What is your transfer rate ? Its 5400 RPMs HD right ?
-
This is my drive. Yes, it is 5400 RPM, and I get 60 MB/s transfer rates over USB 3.0.
-
I do not understand very well... you just told me that you need to have a separate power cable for eSATA, we do not speak about USB 3. and USB 3 do not need any separate power cable... anyway what is your transfer rate over eSATA ?
-
I said that the data cable (USB 3.0) did not supply sufficient current to power the drive. There is a separate power cable (also USB) which has to be plugged in as well. In other words, it takes two USB ports on the laptop to power my drive ( my USB 3.0 enclosure).
I am not using eSATA. -
When you run the setup program it asks you where you want to save a file called 10-5_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe this is the file you want to copy over to the computer you are installing the drivers on. Standard location for the file is C:\AMD\10-5_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe notice the file size of 71mb. Once the installer has finished downloading the driver, copy 10-5_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe to a flash drive (so you can copy it to the laptop) and click the button that says finish instead of the install button.

Hi all,
Great board, I have been reading for about 4 days and am on page 136 lol. I am receiving my X1 today and I am very excited. I am going to continue to read the boards until I catch up but I was going to get some insight now.
When I stat updating my drivers, are there any I should avoid or that cause problems?
The reviews have been pretty great for the first 136 pages, do they continue and how do you all feel about your N61JQ now?
I will probably have more questions once I get started but thanks in advance! Back to page 137. -
Does N61JQ have IDE DVDRW or SATA ?
How can I check this ? -
i have a question... my version of n61jq have a hd with 5400 rpm, will i see any performance improve if i change it to a 7200 rpm???
thanks! -
I would personally upgrade to a solid state drive if you can get a good deal. You will not notice as big of a change from 5400rpm - 7200rpm but a big change going to a quality SSD. The disadvantage of a SSD is that you will not have as much space, but the performance improvement will be very noticeable if that is what you are looking for. -
ooppss ok.. too bad for you, I have a very cheap USB3 enclosure with seagate 7200 RPMs and no need a second cable.. I bought this enclosure : AGESTAR Screwless 2.5" SATA USB 3.0 HDD Enclosure 5Gbps - eBay, Hard Disk Enclosures, Storage Accessories, Computers. (end time 26-Jun-10 14:58:10 AEST)
Anyone have eSATA enclosure can tell me the transfer rate he have ?
-
Hello, this model it's shipping now to me but I have read some reviews that the resolutions isn't the "usual" on this kind of screen size, can it be fixed by firmware upgrade in the future?
It isn't a major concern because I usually use my laptop connected to a 20" monitor. -
no, i cant afford the difference... then i will stay with the 5400 rpm...
thanks anyway... -
Bios 2.10... --->> ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/nb/N61JQ/
Please, tell us about upgrade change log !!! -
Some information for you guys this laptop has only 1x1 wireless support so pretty much rules out 300mbps support. Also has no real support for mimo got this direct from asus. My laptop is in rma currently can anyone tell me if there are any new features for the latest bios? I am impressed with their support but the lack of changelog is disappointing.
-
I don't see any new options in the BIOS. No idea what it does
-
N61JQ Bios V210 change log:
Fix ASUSGPNV data loss when use aflash2 /down parameter or Ctrl-Alt-Del reset without use SWSMI to shutdown the system. -
Thanks. Do you have the change log for 206 to 209 too ?
-
Guessing this is to stop propel bricking their laptop when flashing via USB from
bios. Are asus going to start posting changelog now ? -
Sorry, the resolution is a hardware limitation and cannot be fixed via software.
Has anyone lost the ability to go page back/ page forward (three finger slide left and right) using the touchpad? All the other functions work except that one. -
With respect to unstable updates, the main thing I have seen on this lounge is stay away from BIOS v. 209. Past that, I have only updated my audio driver (RealTek) and the video driver (CCC 10.5) both of which seem to work fine.
-
No but I can find out.
They usually post change log, I guess someone just forgot to list change logs on N61JQ and some of the BIOS for other models. -
My back/forward work (at least in Firefox). I'm using the latest driver (Elantech v7.0.6.4) and the newest BIOS (2.10).
-
New (unofficial) Intel RST drivers here.
New audio driver V6.0.1.6110 -
Thanks.
I will try these. -
There was a problem with flash 10 and multi touch. Upgrade your flash player to the beta and it will fix it.
-
Wow! A new BIOS already... Seems there was something wrong with 209 after all. I can only hope now that I get a business trip to the USA soon and can send my laptop for repair then, otherwise I'm SOL.
-
Yes, please, do it from 206 to 209 (i bought it with 206)
-
Thanks for the reply. I can get any drivers I need directly from ASUS's website right? I am looking on there now but I remember some people mentioning that for the video card drivers, you can go to the radeon site, etc.
Thanks again. I'm loving this beast!
Sorry one more question. I downloaded real temp and when I am just surfing the net and listening music my temps are reaching 77 on all cores. I don't remember seeing anyones temps that high unless they had been playing a game. I am also trying to find a good site to download the crysis demo. Thanks again! -
That's what I was getting when I first got my N61. Now the temps are in the low 50's while surfing. Someone mentioned earlier in this lounge that it takes a while for the thermal compound to work its way in and bring the temps down on a new laptop. I don't know if its true but that is what I seemed to experience on mine.

King of Rapture Notebook Consultant
LOL! Can't keep away much long.
We love you brother Greg, for what you have done for this thread and N61Jq.
Hope, your work and the modification on your house are going well, without a hick! -
Yes I think there is something wrong with BIOS 209, one of my customer flashed to 209 and now the system won't power up no lights at all.
-
So it seems as some other users around this lounge had the same experience with v209.
-
Yeah on BIOS 210 change log"Fix ASUSGPNV data loss when use aflash2", looks like 209 with Aflash2 kills the BIOS.
-
I think ASUS has created many RMAs for themselves with a bugged bios.
I don't know if it is possible for them to fix these without full mainboard replacement. -
I'm lucky my machine didn't brick after the update.
-
Today, my asus froze four times. I don't know what's causing it as windows didn't give any bsod. It just froze. What to do??
-
I think we have to wait with oldy 208 BIOS.. 209 is scrap and I think 210 too. Before any more update we must know minimally what the amazing a.s.u.s team did with this part..
-
ok thanks =)
-
Hey all, still loving my ASUS, im just wondering how easy it would be to put more RAM into this computer...im at 4 GB right now and would like 6 or 8. Can you all give me an idea of how much it would cost and how i would go ab purchasing and installing the RAM? thank you
-
Hello to all N61JQ owners, i'm weeks away to become one of you guys.
I must say i've been searching this laptop for ages and pushed my budget to over the limit to get it. Interestingly pre-order here is 10% more expensive then getting one from Germany.
I'm going to add intensive cooling methods to chill GPU and mainly CPU to keep the TurboBoost at top for all the times.
And sadly i'll ditch 64bits and go 32bits after playing around
Can't wait for my day to come. -
I have upgraded RAM on my N71JQ from 4GB to 8GB.
I went for SAMSUNG M471B5273BH1-CH9 DDR3-1333 and I bought it from here:
2x 4GB =8GB DDR3 Notebook SODIMM RAM 1333 Mhz PC3-10600 bei eBay.de: (endet 26.06.10 14:01:30 MESZ)
