To be honest with you, I have not got the chance to test it with 5GHz.
I still have an old modem that does not support it.![]()
I will be getting a new one soon when I switch to VDSL from Telekom.
I was waiting for the Telekom to start the new service in my area before I buy a new router. After a delay of few months finally they told the new service should be active in my area until mid of July. Most probably I will get a Fritz!Box.
I bought my N-6200 from another eBay shop as you and Risco, but all of our cards experienced problems especially the card being undetected after a new driver installs and the 300mbps not working for you and Risco.
I wonder if our cards are engineering samples or the Intel driver for it are not stable yet.![]()
It would be useful to compare ours to somebody who orders a N-6200 from reputed seller like Gentech, PowerNotebooks, etc.

I bought mine from Xtiopic.com and it works perfectly, without dropping any connection even after updating the drivers. Though I have not tested it with 5GHZ.
I used to buy a lots of things from eBay.com. One day at XDA-developers.com someone posted about updating the firmware on my Motorola HT820 Bluetooth Stereo headset. I had bought two of them. I couldn't update the firmware and lots of others couldn't too. At that point we found out that these were fake.
I went back and checked everything that I bought from eBay and from China. Everything that I had bought was fake, from HTC XDA cell phone to memories cards.
Since, then I decided not to buy anything electronics from eBay and China. Two years later I bought a Motorola S9 from one the Amazon.com store. Had it shipped to one of my friend who brought it back to me. Found out it was a fake. So I complained to Amazon.com, they asked me to send it back and I will be refunded my money. I explained them it is in Middle East, so Amazon.com had them ship a new genuine piece to me in the Middle East and got to keep the fake one too. Got a fake and a genuine one for the price of one, however the fake one is collecting dust. -

hey, u mentioned that u were in India(i live here too), i have managed to purchase the n61jq, it should be here by the end of this month (June 28th), i was wondering how u plan to get it serviced in case of any unfortunate event. i know the Asus laptop provides us with a global warranty, but since India does not sell this product here, they will have to ship the n61 elsewhere.
do you have any information regarding service in india? -
Thanks, though... -
lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
On my HP dv8, Core i7-720, nVidia GT 335, it lowers idle temps by 15C and stress test (furbar, everest, unguine) by 10C or more. I cannot get the core or gpu temp over 77C, and that's only with the stress tests running on max. I don't know why this budget cooler is so awesome, but believe me, it is. You can't go wrong for $34 and, after you buy it if you like it, I would suggest buying a second, because the plastic construction just can't last too long - though mine is going on 4 months now. Last, it aint quiet. I wouldn't think anyone would expect a gaming beast to run quiet, but in case you do, this is not the cooler for you. The Zalmans are made far better but they just don't generate the wind velocity this baby does. -
On a side note I returned a dv8t and used that money to buy my N61JQ. So happy I did that, Sooo happy! Did I say how happy I am that I did that? -

To all you of guys who are interested in the keyboard backlit mode, PaulW from the N71JQ Lounge has done it successfully on his notebook by using a touch sensor chip QT110 and power from the USB port.
Here is the link:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/6337002-post1051.html
I have also ordered the necessary parts and will do it using the same method when I have more time at end of next month.
PaulW connected the sensor wire to the silver matal grill above the keyboard. I will try to use the empty TV antenna connector hole covered by a small plastic cap on the side of the notebook for mounting a touch sensor. -

The one I quoted is 1333.
Komputerbay 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 SODIMM (204 pin) 1333Mhz PC3 10600 8 GB - KB_8GB_2X4GB_DDR3_SO1066_3 for the same price of $226, which includes shipping.
I tried earlier to hint about it! -
In fact I was thinking on sending a few pics to Intel to get their feed back. At the moment I've put back the Atheros but I have another big problem, see below.
Thanks to both for the feedback -
This morning I was ready to contact ASUS, I had the phone in one hand and with the other I switched on the NB so that I could tell ASUS which lights were on and to my great surpise the BIOS worked but obviously did not find the disk because it was still in the external box.
So I did not call ASUS, I put the disk back in but same problem NOTHING. I took it out switched the NB on and BIOS OK.
At this point I have made an image of the hidden partition using Macrium Reflect, at the moment I am securely erasing my data after which I will format the D and E partitions and see what happens with just the hidden and system partitions. This because in Windows I had changed the drive letters of the two data partitions before doing the restore, I do not think this caused the problem but I'm giving it a try before sending it off to ASUS. -

I'm assuming I'll be able to do the same on the N61 -
The Farnell Germany did not accept the order. They said they only deal with business custumers.
They game me link to another website were I can order privately. This is German website. I don't know where you can order it in USA.

Any of you guys had a BSOD 7f problem when playing youtube videos?
Since today I am getting BSODs every time I try to play a video on youtube.
I have installed the latest version of Flash player but it still happens. -
Seriously witch browser do you use, IE, Firefox, Opera, SeaMonkey, Safari ? This look like there is some corrupted file on it -
You can order the QT110-ISG chip from Mouser Electronics in the US:

It is very strange. This is the first time I had such a problem. I always used the same setup to visit youtube.
Actually it all started today when I was looking at the video of N61JQ from Gentech which is posted on the first page of this lounge.
After that I went to youtube and checked with some other videos and the same thing happened there too. -
Unfortunately, for me I am not able to get this QT110A chip in Germany so far. Farnell is out of stock until October.
I have to search for another shop or use the QT118HA chip which is little bit different than QT110A; one has output active high and the other one has output active low.
I have to look at the datasheet of QT118HA and I may need to modify the circuit a little bit to make it work in the same way like QT110A.
In any case I don't have the keyboard so far. I just ordered it over the weekend. It will take some time to arrive. -
Hello everybody,
Ordered N61JQ-X1 from Amazon $909. I will have it tomorrow. I've been reading the forum, searching info on extended battery (9 or 12 cell fit), express gate (does this laptop have it) and integrated video. I read people where discussing all these questions. Have you guys figured it out?
Please respond -
Hey everyone... Been noticing a little problem with my N61JQ-X1 lately.
I primarily use it with an external monitor and the laptop screen turned off... Whenever I put it into sleep and then take it out of sleep, the monitor comes back on with a slight brown discoloration. The problem is solved once I switch catalyst profiles back to laptop and monitor again, but it's slightly annoying.
Anyone else have this problem? -

Adamal, thank you for quick answer. Extend battery I think is the most important addition to this laptop, considering short battery life. Hopefuly Asus will start selling them sooner then later. I will post my opinion on this machine in a few days. Thanks again

A 9 cell battery will not work with the ASUS N61JQ-A1 because of the way the screen opens. The 9 cell would have to stick out the back by about 3.4", which would stop the screen from opening all the way.

First post here. I scooped up an N61JQ-X1 for $909 from Amazon last week. I had actually been leaning towards the N61JV-X2 because of the better battery life and I was unclear on which processor would actually serve me better because it is tough for a computer novice to understand 2 cores vs. 4 and how they are used. Then my previous laptop died on me. Its a work laptop so I had to replace it ASAP and when I went to purchase the JV I saw this one on sale and went for it. I got it for two reasons. One it seemed like the better deal and two it seemed like a more popular model. I was worried that the new Optimus graphics switch technology could be buggy because it is so new. The only thing that the JV had going for it was battery life and the fact is that I am almost always near an outlet. I just wanted the convenience of not having to drag the cord around the house to plug in.
So far I love the new laptop and really like Windows 7. I use this for work and mainly use spreadsheets, word processing, pdf, Autocad and building energy simulation modeling software. So far this laptop performs great for me. My one complaint would be the battery life, but I it is no worse than advertised. I don't game so the graphics card is probably complete overkill and it would be nice if there was a lower power back-up that I could switch to when unplugged.
The chiclet keyboard was a concern, but I like it okay. I just wish that my palm wouldn't hit the touchpad so often and cause the cursor to jump around.
The only issue that I've had so far is that I was unable to update the graphics driver. I didn't see any info about that in this thread, but it is so long that I might have missed it. Not a big deal, but I figured that updating to the latest would be best. I can copy in the error message or if there is a fix already posted here that someone could point me towards that would be great. -
Hi all!
I'm very uncertain of which PC I would like to buy, but this and the n71 are two models I definitly have been looking into. Unfortunately we dont have JQ models in Sweden, only JA and JV as top models, i5-520 as max for n61 and i5-450 for the n71.
Which model would you prefer? I mostly looking into the n61 because of the portability, but the n71 has very nice value for the money
Either way I'm planning to buy a SSD to put in as systemdrive, will there be a problem installing OS, Express Gate, Drivers etc?
I assume none of these models have integrated gpu for saving battery. How is the battery?

Welcome AK13,
this should be the link for the 10.5 Mobility Driver:
ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver
Have fun -

It's hard to beleive that laptop with such a short battery life would not triger a manufacturer to provide option to extend it. I think this product would find a buyer. I've been looking all over the net to find battery, but can't find anything.
-
Has anybody checked after installing SSD if it extends the battery life and by how much?

So does anyone have a method for getting the touchpad to utilize more traditional scrolling behavior? (dragging along the right edge of the mouspad to scroll).
-
@bluejunior Just press FN + F9 to disable the mousepad.

That doesn't really help me in what I'm trying to do though

PS Thinking about it I believe the 4 dvds are a working copy of the hidden partition and therefore will only re-create the system partion C. Can anyone confirm this?? -
Well it was the 32bit IE8.
I reseted the IE8 settings and re-installed the flash player again.
So far it seems to be working now. It could be that the IE plugins got somehow messed up.
If the problem occurs again I will let you guys know.
