    cpu idle temp for me is about 30-35 degrees celsius. Flash takes a lot of cpu power especially newer version of flash. Flash makes windows live messenger slow as well.

    Does this laptop support SATA 3 or are we stuck with just SATA 2?

    ^ I can't find the original quote but the Nvidia graphics board does disable entirely, better than the Optimus setups.

    So if we install the drivers mentioned above, the Nvidia card should disable completely?

    If you install the driver on asus's/manufacture/stock driver, it'll disable completely. The driver mentioned above might have glitches, but it is unofficially newer version of the hybrid graphic driver.

    For me, I sort of fixed my problem. In uninstalled flash, a-patch, and live messenger. Reinstall flash, live messenger. I only enabled 2 settings on APatch. Everything is silky smooth now. Laptop boots under 10 seconds and battery life is up by half an hour.

    Intel 320 120GB ssd and vlited windows 7 professional from msdn-aa.
    - startup time 10s
    - shutdown time 2s

    I've also performed some tweaks. E.g. disabled GUI booting because the four balls during boot up would just show up for half a second thus useless for me to see.

    @Janne303
    There are the skins for the back of the ul30vt, I bought the deep black leather one and the quality is really awesome ! I never saw anything to cover the keyboard like on the picture though... You can choose between 4 differents colors, I think the name of the society who make that is SGP.

    There are the ebay links :
    * Brown Leather
    * Black Cube
    * Deep Black Leather

    You can sort of slim down windows 7 after install by turning off unused features. e.g. tablets media functions. But the best way is just do a clean installation.

    Here's what you do to clean install and slim down windows 7.
    - use abr license backup tool to backup your windows 7 professional license
    - download leagal windows 7 msdn/digitalriver copy for free (guides are everywhere)
    - download vlite and WAIKs
    - slim down windows installations and take out components that you don't need
    -integrate drivers to installations
    -install windows and restore license
    -do the normal ssd tweaks (large ntfs cache, disable prefetch, superfetch, indexing, hibernation...etc)
    -install nvidia driver and newest power4gear hybrid
    -turn off unused features in bios
    -turn off GUI booting
    Your computer should boot in less than 15s.

    And for vertex 2, its not possible to get it working, so that's why i went with intel drives. However, if your boot up time is less than 15 seconds, you will probably be ok with turning off and starting your computer everytime.

    @jackluo923: Thanks, I'll give it a try! :)

    @Jon-jon: As stated earlier sleep works for me. It's hard to tell exactly what did the trick, but:

    - Use original ASUS drivers for Nvidia graphics and Intel Matrix Storage Manager.
    - Set Minimum Processor State to 0% via Power4Gear Hybrid (I use V.1.1.29).
    - Using updated bios, firmware and Windows.

    And applying the normal ssd tweaks (large ntfs cache, disable prefetch, superfetch, indexing, hibernation...etc)

    I'm using 1.1.31. I'd say the newer version works so much better than the old version. It has better switching reliability and compatibility. E.g. i can switch when live messenger is running in the new version.

    hi guys, im having trouble with power4gear

    last week i had to completely wipe my computer. i did it using a windows 7 torrent (i had lost my CD that it came with)

    power4gear is no longer a selectable option. so i downloaded this -
    http://www.asusdriver.net/asus-ul30vt-notebook-power4gear-hybrid-utility-for-windows-7.html

    and when i install it, windows says it may not have installed correctly, try with a diff version of windows, yadda yadda, and it gives me two choices - "try again with recc settings" and "it did install correctly". trying again does nothing

    how do i get power4gear back on my laptop? thanks in advance

    Yup, there is quite a bit speed boost when going to sleep and resuming. Its pretty much instant while it took about 1-2s on hdd.

    After every start my nvidia graphics does not work on Asus UL30vt-x1 bought in Sept, 2010. Then I go to control panel>device manager>Display Adapter>NVIDIA GeForce G210M>Properties>Disable driver>Enable. Then it works till I shutoff the laptop. When I restart the laptop, I have to do the same procedure to make it work again! I have installed the latest BIOS upgrade 211 and nVIDIA driver Asus 186.88 Please help. Thanks.

    @ Sputnick69

    <STRIKE>Ahahaha it finally works !!! So weirdly the only things I've done to make it works is to install Power4gear 1.31 (I had the 1.25) and to disable prefetch (was not done yet). I did not even need set the min. proc. state to 0%.

    So I'm not quite sure how or why, but it work like a charm now. It's even faster than the wake phase on a macbook, it's very impressive ! Thank you for all of your help.</STRIKE>

    Nevermind doesn't work any more... This sh*t really driving me crazy, I use the original version of Intel Matrix Storage controller (8.9.2.1002) and power4gear is configured with 0% minimum processor state. Got the last bios with defaults settings and the last firmware for my SSD...

    Could you tell me what is the value in % of the easy overclock thing in your bios ?

    @ Shawnn218 Well it's weird because for a long time I experienced the same problem, but today I just went to the download section of the UL30vt on Asus website and it finally did work Screenshot Power4gear 1.31

    So here a few suggestions to help you :
    • Double check if you did download power4gear in the 64bit section of Asus website
    • Check if your windows copy is actually a 64 bit one (since you dl it from the web)
    • Finally be sure you have uninstalled all previous version of power4gear and restarted your laptop before installing power4gear 1.31
    @ jackluo923 : Thanks for all the informations, it's looks very tempting ! Ans yes power4gear 1.31 is much better.

    @ nvikram : With the vertex2 it is almost instantaneous

    Intel 320 120gb is pretty good. Instant wake up and you don't have to worry about compatibility. Everything just works but with a little bit price premium.

    Hi!

    Does someone know a place where to buy one of them, willing to ship it to france? :)

    I've found on ebay some for 339$ only, but seller won't send them to france, too bad because here they sell it more than the newer U3* models.. 800 to 1000$ (in euros)... :(

    185 euros sur Pixmania : Intel SSD INTERNE 320 SERIES - 120 GO achat et prix SSD INTERNE 320 SERIES - 120 GO

    @human-being
    I'm not sur the Crucial M4 SSD will be really efficient with ul30vt since it use the second generation of SATA interface (6GB/s) and I'm almost sure the UL30vt motherboard got a first generation SATA interface.

    So supposedly it would limit the speed and performance and you would never get the 445 mo/s promised. I'm not 100% sure though so correct me if I'm wrong.

    I am having a couple of issues with drivers/software on my UL30VT.
    I just got an OCZ Vertex3 (60GB) so I installed windows and attempted the insane maze of installing all the software in the right order. I came up with LESS battery life than with my 500GB HDD, and now when I hit Fn+F2 (to change bluetooth/wifi) it seems to switch on or off bluetooth or wifi randomly. My touchpad is also buggier than before (zooms and scrolls when I don't want it to, and a weird refresh icon comes up sometimes).

    The first thing I did was uninstall Power4Gear 1.1.25 and installed P4G 1.1.35, and now I am getting this error...
    http://i.imgur.com/5N1lW.jpg

    The other thing I wanted to ask was what are some good SSD optimizations I can do to speed it up and/or save space? I have already lowered my pagefile, turned off some windows features and turned off hibernation, saving almost 8gb!
    I am familiar with nlite, but haven't used it since WinXP. I wouldn't mind spending several hours to get the most out of my SSD purchase.

    Edit: Just clarifying I have 64bit Win7, and trying to install P4G 64bit, so that's not why the P4G install is failing.

    @rcdoshi: Try using Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper to remove all traces of the driver. Then install the vga patch and the nvidia driver.

    @Jon-jon:
    I use the default 3%.

    @Gskellig:: Easy optimize settings for SSD use Elpamsoft.com - Home of the SSD Tweaker for Windows. I tried nlite, but it seems outdated to me for Win 7, my attempt didn´t work. A newer tool is RT7lite, which might work better.

    Might as well as just do another fresh install with newest P4G hybrid. the display driver + atk stuff + power4gear hybrid is really not the best drivers to reinstall mutliple of times.

    Well the first answer is simple : power4gear 1.1.35 is not made for the ul30vt :p, the last one is the 1.1.31 (but strangely, some people got the same error with this one).

    For the SSD tweaks you got this little software pretty usefull : |MG| SSD Tweaker 1.9.8 Download

    For the bugs make sure you installed the latest bios (211) from asus support, and finally for the touchpad try to install the ELAN drivers (I personnaly have the version 8.0.7.0).

    EDIT : oops sorry I did not see the answers on the new page.

    @ Sputnick69 : Well I must be cursed since I applied all the things you said and still got BSOD half the time it awakes...

    Try here: http://software.intel.com/en-us/visual-computing/?cid=cim:ggl|isn_us_vcd_gen|kE898|s

    or, you can ask W7 to search for best update depending on your circumstances..

    I'll just reinstall Win7 then. Is there a post somewhere saying EXACTLY what order to install all the drivers/software in to make sure I don't mess it up this time?

    Edit: I actually found this: Rex's Official Driver Installation Tutorial Part #1

    But it does not concur with the first post of this thread, which says to install the ATK drivers first.

    Yes, as posted, install in order as presented on your driver DVD. I'm, STILL using all the old default driver installs :eek: I just manually installed the important ones by the install order. The on disk txt file and install order were the same.

    The only issues i have is the video switching bug, I have to restart to switch, if notebook is allowed to sleep. I used to have hibernating issues but they have gone away and I use a mouse as I hate track pads.

    My last clean install is a year old..of course, YMMV.
