The Dell precision M3800 uses an IGZO panel from Sharp, with traditional RGB matrix. It cannot have the yellow issue, it doesn't make sense; the color problem with yellow is a pentile thing.
-
I haven't done any serious tests, but I've played MK9. Injustice and Resident Evil HD Remaster on it in FHD and it was OK, no lags or freezes, but sometimes it tries to use the Intel graphics in the games so you need to define in the Nvidia control panel that the software must use 960M in full performance mode (or something similar). For Adobe lightroom CC 2015 - it works slower than on my desktop (i7 2700k, 8Gb RAM, Samsung evo840 256GB ssd, but I was working with lightroom 2014 on it) and I also noticed that CPU utilization is quite high when using Lightroom (I'm mostly work with canon 5dmark III 21mp raw files). On the g751 I don't see this kind of picture with CPU utilization, maybe the 4k resolution might be the rootcause, but I'm not sure.
-
I don't remember the Dell model, maybe it was XPS15, but I've made the side by side comparison with UX501 and the yellow was totally the same.
-
did the laptop get hot while u played, or surfed web
-
It was standing on the table almost all the time, so I can't answer you correctly.
-
I doubt if you could get a spec like that. Asus is not smart enough in diversifying specs like that. If they do, It should be a bit below 2000 USD.
-
Cool -- looking forward to hearing your impressions of screen quality.
Specs match up with the UX501JW-DS71T -- is that true?
Will be curious to see it has a different panel than the unit xdeez bought in Dubai. -
Hey, the UX501JW-DS71T is now available at the Asus webstore.
I ordered mine -- will post impressions when it arrives. -
Did you read the post of xdeez about color issue?
-
Yeah. Although he has the same panel as your unit, his is a different model. You were saying your screen looks great -- I'll certainly let you know what I find. If it has the color issue, I'll return it.
-
i would buy the g501 just for the Thunderbolt. I am an engineer and i need a Powerfull GPU. When i am at work, i can dock into my EGPU over Thunderbolt and do the work i need to do. THUNDERBOLT is the only thing that is really nice on this thing. But in Germany the g501 has only a DP Port with no Thunderbolt connectivity. Thats a big fail from ASUS. You cant get a G501 with THUNDERBOLT in europe. its so disapointing. I am sorely dissapointed.
;(((( -
Well damn. All I want is FHD screen, 960M 4gb, 512 SSD. It could be 8gb ram too. just hope that they will have these specs..
-
You can buy this laptop now on the Asus site's store:
http://store.asus.com/us/category/A17602?sort=mod_dt&asc=0&page=1
It doesn't say "coming soon" like it does for the G501 (it used to for the UX501 too). It lets you add it to your cart and check out. Does this mean this laptop is actually out no or is this some sort of glitch?
EDIT: I see that someone already posted this on the previous page, my bad. I guess it's legit then. I will purchase it later today and will also report if I have this color issue.Last edited: Apr 27, 2015 -
Hi guys,
I need some help. I saw the review on the G501 and it had the worst flex on the keyboard I have ever seen. Can somebody who owns a UX501 comment on this? Does the UX501 have the same keboard area flex?
Thanx -
First real review of the UX501 AFAIK:

Note:
This is the FullHD version, and original in French. Seems to have a SSD + a HD and 4 GB VRAM. Asus continues to produce gazillion version of the same computer...Last edited: Apr 27, 2015khanis12 likes this. -
When is this version coming to the US... omg
-
Ive ordered the Jarir version of this notebook. Should reach this week hopefully
http://www.jarir.com/computers-peripherals/laptops/441051-laptops-zenbook-asus.html
Can anybody tell if I can add an SSD to this setup without voiding the warranty? Also, I'd like to know how I can move the existing Windows on 1TB to the SSD for a faster machine.
Thanks -
This laptop is now only $1,799? On the Asus site it says preorder now the UX501JW-DS71T for $1,799
Why the $200 price drop? -
I noticed this as well. The press releases are starting to come out today, quoting the $1799 price point.
I had canceled my order at $1999 this morning anyway -- worried about the screen and the hassle of an Asus store return. Figured I'd wait for at least one review of the U.S. version before purchasing something with such an easily foreseeable issue. If confirmed, the color issue is a complete deal breaker for me.
Surprising there is no price drop on the NX500 yet. I am strongly considering going with the marginally slower CPU & GPU to get the vastly superior and non-defective screen. -
I ordered it at $1,799 with next day shipping so I should get it pretty quickly once released. I'm not sure a "yellow looking like a different yellow" is much of an issue for me.
What else is better about the NX500's screen besides no color issue? -
I'm sitting on my new UX501JW-FJ192H and its just as I worried about - yellow has a clear greenish shade.
It's pretty large for a 15,6" since it has about 2 cm distance from keyboard to border as well as screen to border.
But it sure is a real beauty! -
Quantum dot technology replaces the phosphors -- vastly improved color reproduction. Would you see the difference? Possibly not, unless you're a pro.
-
Bummer. Is it the same Samsung panel? (hardware ID: SDC434B)?
-
I'm in China and I think I will buy the UX501J4720-1B8AXC54X20 version:
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=44842981398
(tips: you have many pics of the internals if you follow the link, but wait for the pics to load, outside China it can be slow)
Specs:
128GB M2 2280 Sandisk SSD + 1T 5200RPM HD
8GB RAM (upgradable to 16GB)
GTX960M with 4G GDDR5
FHD screen is LG (LGD046F) IPS with 72% NTSC and 100% SRGB
edit: unfortunately this setup comes only with 60WH battery that gives roughly 3 hours of usage, a deal breaker for me...Last edited: Apr 27, 2015 -
Hi, i have this impressive notebook two weeks and i am each day very suprised with completly quality of all things...sound quality, amazing display, super performance, very good batery life, strong build quality, low weight....
I have 4K version with 512GB SSD.
The batery life is around 6 hours by wifi connection and 50% brightness.
I played GTA 5 in FullHD and High settings fluently.
The max temperature during this game was 85°C on CPU and 79°C on GPU. -
Which display does your model have?
This press release from Asus Nordic has two models, one with the 4K touch display (UX501JW-FJ167H) and one with a 4K matte non-touch display (UX501JW-FI184H)
http://asusnordic.com/marknad/press/SE_ASUS_ZenBookProUX501_Pressrelease_2015-03-11_final.pdf
I've seen both in stock in Norwegian webshops.
EDIT: Seems that FJ167H-->FJ192H?
In that case, has anyone seen the FI184H version, with the 4K matte non-touch screen?Last edited: Apr 28, 2015 -
Is there owner of US version of this laptop? UX501JW-DS71T?
One question - is there really GTX 960M with 2GB RAM or 4GB RAM -
I have the glossy touch model!
-
Nobody has the US version yet because it hasn't launched. The Asus store says the laptop officially launches in 23 hours and 30 minutes from now. (so 10 AM PST on 4/29/15).
I have it pre-ordered with Next Business Day Shipping, so I figure I should have it by Thursday or Friday if it actually ships out tomorrow.
Also, the US version does only come with the 2GB VRAM, not 4GB. I'm told this is pretty irrelevant though as the 960M isn't capable of utilizing 4GB VRAM in most situations anyways. -
1) That's not true
One here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232453
Another here:
http://www.excaliberpc.com/634556/asus-zenbook-pro-ux501jw-ds71t-15.6.html
all in stock - for a week - so better google search before say that "nobody has" - esp. when there is already one review on NewEgg.
2) Here is article that simple shows - that "960M isn't capable of utilizing 4GB VRAM" is not true.
http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/1888-evga-supersc-4gb-960-benchmark-vs-2gb -
I'm really excited about this release! Was about to take a compromise on the build quality and go with Gigabyte, but this is really stunning. My only gripe is the 4k touch screen...
I really only want FHD. I don't want the unnecessarily high resolution that costs more and draws more power...and the touch screen is really a gimmick - not to mention the terrible glossiness (I do like working in daylight every once in a while).
ASUS, my money is yours if you can get that FHD version out on the US market sooner than later. It's a shame that only 4K is available atm.andex likes this. -
I checked Newegg yesterday and you couldn't buy it then which means they just started selling today. So it's pretty safe to say nobody actually has it yet. I don't see the review on newegg as the link you clicked says "be the first to review this product"
Also, why is it $200 more on those sites than Asus's store? And why would Asus let other sites ship out their own product before them? I'm just genuinely curious about this.
Also, I said in "most situations. That article you linked showed only one game (AC:U) where the 4GB card had a good difference over the 2GB card. The other games in their test at 4K resolution (which is what the UX501 is) had either no difference or a negligible one. The conclusion of that article was "it depends" and they were just wondering if 4GB was worth a measly $20 extra.Broprah Winfrey likes this. -
Strangely, the G501 (same laptop) includes a mouse and headphones for the same price:

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Places like Newegg have big power with the machine manufacturers and will often get units first.
-
Well, I got an email saying my order has shipped so it should be here tomorrow or Thursday. Also, to the above poster, the G501 is not the same laptop as the UX501.
Not only is the apperance very different (I hate the G501's exterior but love the UX501's),
-the G501 is rubberized while the UX501 is made of aluminum.
-The UX501 is a glossy touch screen while the G501 is a matte non-touch screen
-I believe only the UX501 offers the option for the Thunderbolt port
Also on Asus's site, the store won't let you buy the UX501 anymore as the pre-order has ended. I'm starting to think the $1,799 price was only for the pre-order and that the new price will be $1,999 when Asus store sells it again. -
Why are places pricing the UX501 for 1999? That isn't the correct price. it's suppose to be 1799 for the UHD version. I don't care though, as I'm patiently waiting for the FHD version with 4GB 960M...
-
Alternatively: they made a last minute decision to lower the price, and it hasn't yet filtered through the retail chain downstream. Not super unusual.
-
Um the g501 also has thunderbolt and it is also an aluminum chassis
They are basically the same laptop with the only differences other than color being the 2gb gddr5 in the ux as opposed to the 4 in the g, and the touch glossy screen in the ux as opposed to the matte in the g, everything else is the same -
There is section - questions to buyers - and there is already one answer from buyer
For example Newegg sells G501JW as an Exclusive Launch for 2 weeks... Yeah - before ASUS's store
I guess it's better to stop that offtopic -
Note sure if this has been posted before, it is rather lengthy review of the UX501 in a language I guess is Chinese. Only way I was able to translate it to English was by using Chrome and then rightclick and select "Translate to English". Tried translate.google.com but that failed miserably.
http://notebook.pconline.com.cn/617/6179745.html
This is actually from march believe it or not. Please not that specs might be different to the ones on your market. -
Well I received my UX501 earlier today. I'm currently using it. If anybody has any questions about the US model feel free to ask, but I'm not very knowledgeable about computers.

How is the screen? Specifically, the yellows?
Cue up a wallpaper sized image of Homer Simpson and tell us how it looks
-
I'm no expert on colors, but the yellow does appear to have an olive tint to it as the other owners have said. I really can't tell if other colors are inaccurate or not.
I also wish the screen could get a little brighter. Maybe that's just because I want to enjoy the new 4K resolution in all its glory, but I like really bright displays. Still, it looks good, and the laptop certainly boots up fast. The sound coming from the back doesn't appear to be a problem like I thought it might be. It's so lightweight and smooth compared to my old laptop. Feels very nice. I do hope there is some way to fix the yellow down the road though. -
What are your initial thoughts? How is the Heat/cooling and quality of the laptop? Pros and Cons?
-
damn, when will the prices from vendors drop from $1,999!? I'm still waiting for the FHD version of this laptop.... how much longer lol
-
Why'd you decide on this over the Omen?
-
I wonder how much of an improvement a laptop like this with Skylake would be.
-
I came across this thread while researching what is available in USA vs where I am (Asia). Over here all I can buy is the FHD version, 12 GB max ram and a 1TB sata drive (non SSD) which to me sucks, I want the touchscreen version, 16GB ram and the 512 GB pci x 4 ssd. Touchscreen I'd like just for the option of using it.... can you tell me why the touchscreen is a dealbreaker ? I understood you need it for windows 8.1
btw asus usa website lists the unit still at $1799.... -
Eh, it looks really quality and it also has the 960M. Looks like a macbook, without the horrible specs, which I like.
-
1) Can you please post screenshot of GPU-Z?
2) Display is matte or glossy?
