Easy interconversion. No adapter needed, just a cable that has DVI and HDMI. So not a biggie. And DVI secures better than HDMI unless you are trying to stream audio as well

 

Both are digital video formats. HDMI to DVI adapters cost like $5 - 10.

I'm actually quite interested to see the battery life times. I doubt it will break 2 hours...Looks like a very powerful, portable notebook otherwise though.

How is the build quality on it?

 

The scores appear as expected for a standard DDR2 8600M-GT, which is great (after the V2s fiasco). If this notebook can break 2hrs with normal app usage and wifi, I'll strongly consider getting a B1 when it comes out.

 

Built quality is amazing, it's a beautiful notebook, just upload some hi res photos on page one, you guys can take a look.

That in mind, what does the benchmark mean? Is it good?

 

B1 has higher Rez screen ==>> drains battery faster so you have to take that into account.

 

Benchmarks are ways to compair notenooks to one another. Usually the higher the score (some use lower) the better (faster) the notebook. This notebook appears to be good for the hardware it has. Asus released the V2S with a modified graphics card that greatly decreased the preformance. That was what they were refering to. Some people put less emphasis on benchmarks and prefer to use the in game demos to see how well the hard ware will preform. But benchmarks are a good point to start with.

 

Benchmarks = speed testing
in term of graphic acceleration, it is fast, and thus translates into 3D gaming capable with medium settings on intensive 3D games.
And if it can run games, that means it will have no problem running daily applications/usage. Hope that helps

I can test battery life on high performance mode, but battery life test takes time.

Minimally, maybe, but with some good undervolting and optimization I can easily make that difference up, and more.

I'm interested in this laptop but I can't decide on the A1 vs the B1 versions, so what are the pros and cons for a 1440x900 (WXGA+) vs 1280x800 (WXGA) resolution.

 

Sorry, no remote control and TV Tuner in North America.

Workspace vs readability, 1440X900 you get more workspace but might be too small to read for some people.
I've been using 1280X800 on Asus Z70VA few years ago even the LCD is 1680X1050, it's just too small to read.

But this is subjective, some people seem like higher resolution.

Those scores are more sexy than I thought they would be. Ken do you think (not that you would be advocating this) there would be any need to upgrade thermal paste or is there some decent airflow? I'll go back and review that underbelly pic you took, but since you have the machine in front of you there....oh and get some sleep...

Thank you so much for showing all this information, this is what ive been trully missing, and to grab this laptop at 1400 having 3gbs of ram, man, asus has made the perfect system!

now, to make sure i have the available credit!

 

I noticed a notable difference between 1GB and 3GB system memory. How about 2GB memory compared to 3GB? Would it be a notable difference in performance?

is 1440x900 very small to read?

 

Won't the 3dmark scores go down on the B1 if you run the benchmark at the native resoultion of 1440x900?
@Honguy 1440x900 is no problem to read on the 14 inch monitor.

 

1440x900 is decent for a 14", it's no 1680x1050

Just a reminder that the WXGA(1440x900) wonn't be out til December.

The F8sv looks like a great little unit, though ASUS is a bit late to penetrate the market. Nonetheless, it'll sell and make quite a racket.

 

Depends on your eyes and personal preference. I am going for WXGA model as it is cheaper and the difference in "screen real estate" is negligent.

 

I was originally worried about it not being good enough, but then i realized that i have a 15.4 inch right now with 1280 and to think that its going to get a minus inch treatment isnt that bad

as long as dvi allows me to upscale the res, im all set, my laptop is already on its way....... and the battery hit added to the fact that im not going to game past 1280*800 res is a huge thing

DAMN! That is such a sexy score....I was not too convinced of this notebook until right about...there. Oh well, I just purchased the W7S, which serves my needs pretty well - it can still game pretty decently (or at least play the games I want it to), weighs a pound and a half less, and gets an hour more of battery life. Still, if I had been to wait a week longer, I might have been very tempted to go with an F8Sv-A1 instead.

 

Yeah, I think it's safe to say you'd get quite a few years out of this one.

 

These scores are confusing - I'd prefer the results at 1280*1024 so that it is comparable to other laptops(especially mbp and asus g1s)...
