Is it somehow possible to see the panel manufacturer from the outside? Without checking it in Windows, I mean.
I want to buy an Asus F8SN, yet I can hardly ask to please turn on a few of them and let me check first ;-).

Unfortunately i don't think you can tell from the box (i just checked mine.) I got my F8SN-C1 yesterday and the first thing i checked was the panel with the help of pc wizard. I end up getting a CMO panel which I am very happy with. I can't notice any leakage or graininess. Viewing angles are great as well.
I understand your concern after reading all the comment about the AUO panels and wish there was a way to gurantee what you will get. -
I'm glad to know you have got your peace of mind.
Enjoy. Hope you will be pleased with temperature and noise levels as well as overall performance -
Please, tell me that the all C1 have CMO panels! I've just ordered myself today and im really woried about that. I have 1440x900.

It should, but we can't say for sure until you receive the notebook. The F8Sn-C1 we used for this review has a LCD hardware ID of CMO 1431. We believe this panel was manufactured by Chi Mei Optoelectronics. Thanks! -
i think there's a good chance it'll be a cmo
i believe everyone here who has a f8sn-c1 got a cmo panel so far -
Thats cool, i hope so get mine. Maybe that problems was at tbe begginng of 2008. There are no other new post at the forum.
This is my hard earned money and also this is perfect laptop for me, i hope there will be no problems at all. -
let us know what you get
i have the f8sn-c1 and the cmo panel is really nice. can't notice any light leakage unless i am really looking hard for it unlike my bro's dell vostro -
I'm a A8JP user (bought in dec 2006).
3 weeks ago my AUO panel's lighting didn't work anymore.
I called the Asus Customer Care Germany and they picked up the laptop for repair.
After 1 week I got my laptop back with a CMO 1431 panel.
The CMO panel is definitely better concerning brightness, viewing angles and color vividness. -
I hope that Asus Company realize that
Im worried about dead pixels too :/ -
My is a F8SN-B1 and the Benchmark with 1280x800 was 3850...o.0

does somebody tryed to play crysis or gta 4 on this notebook???
thanks!!! -
Does the f8sn-c1 have a lightscribe enabled burner?
-

No, it does not, just the standard 8X DVDRW Super Multi drive thatsupports dual layer. Thanks! -
Not that it makes any difference to me as I do not use "Lightscribe" but the Asus specs for the F8Sn say's it does support it.
5.25" , 12.7mm
Combo:
DVD Super Multi Double Layer:
DVD Super Multi Light Scribe
HD DVD -
Ok...all C1 have CMO panels.
Feel better?
-
Hm, that's odd. I asked because I just got my f8sn-c1 and it has the lightscribe control panel installed from the factory default settings, but I can't seem to get it to work. I have software and everything, it just doesn't detect the drive as lightscribe.

Is this notebook as durable as a HP Compaq NC8430 business notebook?
-
Well one thing's for sure...it would not be the 1st time Asus got the specs wrong , in print , for the F8Sn models. I doubt the CD/DVD writers support Lightscribe in practice.
It really would be nice if Asus got their facts correct from the start. It's not like no Lightscribe is a major flaw but it , along with the earlier screen res issue , makes one wonder what's going on. -
What is the best driver for 9500M GS? What a good monitor software for 9500M GS? Rivatuner and ... ?
Thanks! -
i have a question about the battery life - since the C1 used in the review has about maximum battery life of 2 hours 26 minutes, would the D1 theoretically have more battery life, since the processor is only 1.83 ghz instead of 2.5? Thanks
-

Both processors have a thermal design power of 35W (in 65nm & 45nm). I am not too sure how you can tell one is more power efficient than the other just by lookin at the general specs. I am sure the experts on here might be able to tell you. Battery life can vary under different operations and settings. Battery consumption can also vary when running real applications. The actual battery time for the F8Sn should reasonably fall in between 2 and 2.5 hours. (Battery Saving Mode) -
Oh ok, I'm not really all too knowledgeable about battery consumption. Thanks for clearing it up

Hey guys I'm thinking about getting the D1 and I have a few questions.
1. How would it perform on games like Crysis, Call of Duty 4, Unreal Tournament 3 (The only difference between the C1 and D1 is the T5550 1.83 GHz processor in the D1).
2. Are drivers really that hard to find for the Graphics Cards? -
It does ok set on medium. That "only" difference between the C1 & D1 is huge.
Video drivers are not at all hard to find. If you do a little looking here on this forum you will find a lot of info re video drivers.
This is one place of many:
