Hey Beer or whoever has the G60....when you pop the DVD tray out, does it have lots of play kinda like..not breaking but has lots of wiggle and play where it doesnt feel too sturdy?
Once it's pushed in its perfectly fine though...

VERY NICE! after bunch of windows update and stuff, my idle temperature dropped down to 56 on average from low 60's....
Your temp is nice! Wonder what's diff about yours and the bestbuy G51... -
Hmmm...just checked and yep. But come to think of it my work laptop (Dell lattitude) does the same thing.
-
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
Thank you for checking, feel better now
This one is for keeps
So glad I didn't buy that sony CW series.....it would have made a nice boring laptop.... -
Only change paste to Artic Cooling MX3, but im also atm at 19C ambient temp.
I really hope this is true, as it will allow you to go to nvidia reference clocks without worrying about temps. But if you really wanna take your G60 for a ride and compare it direct to G51VX 90C+ temps, dl and run Furmark 1.7, have HWmonitor runing and let it run stability test (custom res 1366x768) see how high it goes (let it run for 1000sec if you dont see any 90C+ temps and screenshot it). -

1000 seconds? interesting number.. probably too late tonight, gotta wake up at 4am to go work at 5am....hmm I only see 32 bits version. Is it gonna run on windows 7 64? -
howard911s any problems with the wireless on the G60?
-
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
I read some more about it...why does it sound like its something that might break my latop @_@
-
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
Just call me Howard... and NOPE! to be precise, I returned TWO G51, both had wireless drop off problems. It's not my router, I had a linksys router that hooked up a dell studio 14 and macbook and dell inspiron 15 but only G51 kep dropping off. One of the G51 had both overheat and wireless drop off problem.
G60 has absolutely no issue at all. Connection stable and fast. -
Well because its a stress test, where most G51VX reach the 90C+ marks, how safe is it, well i ran it multiple times on both my desktop n laptop, without any issues, although i do stop it when it passes to much over 90C, this isnt something to do all days, its just a stress test that will take your GPU to the max, and 1000sec was because thats the full screen of the temp graph, but again if you see 90C+ temps stop it.
What im expecting is the same temps as the G51VX, but if your statement is correct and the G60 in fact runs cooler than the G51VX, then it should have temps in low 80s, which would be really good.
Another good place to get it and to read more about it, Furmark 1.7. -
Well I also ran all updates and installed latest driver from Nvidia. Unfortunately looks like same heat issues. After running stability test for 300 seconds was at 92c....
On a side note, it made my wife happy we was able to turn off the furnace in the house and save on gas when I am gaming on it.

howard can u mention about g60's noise while playing games and watching movies and surfing net?is it bothering u? sorry my english is not wery well i hope u ll understand me
-
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
no worry
1) surfing the net, watching movie, youtube, ms office stuff laptop is very very quiet. You can still hear it but its just a very faint air moving hissing type. U know how quiet is Sony laptop right? it is that quiet if not quieter.
2) At game, fan spinns high and the laptop gets noticeably louder but not bothersome, but in game you have all the noise and music anyway so fan noise won't matter. As soon as game exits..the fan goes down nearly instant and back to silent. -
you think this laptop need a notebook cooler???
-
Duh........
-
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
absolutely not...if it continues to run like this, nope.
What I do is..G60 like all its predecessor made by Asus has a big meshed opening at bottom. Contrary to popular belief, it is NOT a speaker but an air intake. I tilt my G60 slightly at the back by resting the rear at the palmrest of my desktop keyboard. By raising it 1/4 to 1/2 inch it greatly helps maintain temperature control.
SHort version to your question, nope, this laptop does NOT need a laptop cooler. -
what cooler do you recommend for this one......for example this cooler:
ZALMAN Ultra Quiet Notebook Cooler Model ZM-NC1500 - Retail

waht do tou think about it -
Most G51VX had good results with the NC2000, since the G60 has the same chasis i would assume it will work similar.
-
Is that with powermizer? my 9800 idles at 41 deg with powermizer
-
yes but reading the specifications i dont known what is the diference between this coolers...maybe the dimensions....can you see other???
-
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
No, didn't install anything other than windows 7 update. -
There was a nice comparation between the 2000 n 1000, not the 1500, but i guess you can draw some conclusion from it.

As cool as G60vx runs..you can probably hold off until thanksgiving sale or black friday for a cooler
but then of course if using a cooler makes u feel safer then by all means
-
ok thanks for yours answers...i think this laptop is awesome....ill buy it the next monday
-
Well i dont disagree with this as we are entering the cold season so the temps should be lower than when the G51vx was released, but i also think the G60 run the same as G51vx, nothing changed, still same 1 cooler setup, with the same design.
I don't own a G60, but i don't see any reason why temps should be different from a G51vx, but as i said earlier, if you really want to back the claim that its much cooler running laptop take for a ride in furmark and see if its for real. If you reach 90s then its nothing changed, if you are in 80s then you will have prove that in fact its a cooler running laptop than the g51vx. -
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
let me try after I get home. It says 32 bits, will windows 7 64 take it? and any side effect harm to machine?
Also I agree G60 and G51 chasis should be the same, various components like inner spacing and diff brand fan maybe? might have contributed to different temperature changes. For example, my desktop GTX 260 and my ATI 5870 both reached 80C in peak gaming, but at idle and normal tasks, my 5870 runs cooler and also cools down much faster than the desktop GTX 260. I know I'm just comparing two cards and not the actual structure inside of the case but there may be factors we don't know that affect temperatures between G51 and G60. Perhaps intentional? perhaps just a fortunate accident.
I'll run the test later to see how it does, but by G60VX reaching 90C or above is not an indicator that G60 has better or worse cooling than G51. Its just a temperature gauge. However it would be interesting to find out. -
I tried it last night at stopped it at 300 seconds when I hit 93c.
-
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
I'm not surprised it did, but I dont' see it as a problem. Nvidia and ATI chip both are built with high heat tolerances precisely because modern game/applications will take it to the limit. I have not the slightest doubt that If I were to run the same app mine will hit 90's because that app is designed specifically toward's stressing video cards.
So for Abula, I'm not claiming the superiority of G60 or G51, it's meaningless to do so. When I had G51, weather was hotter of course but with AC on, my room temperature aren't much different than the cooler temperature now and my room 's already heated up by my desktop with quad core ddr 3 ram and ati 5870
It was simply an observation on my part running HWMONITOR and the two G51 I had both ran consistently hotter than the G60VX now both idle and in the same game I play.
I must say however, one of the G51 was clearly defective. While idling the GTX 260M temperature on one of the G51 I returned temperature shot up to 85C then down then up to 80's hovering while in idle. -
I had the same problem with the G51VX from BB downloaded a new driver and worked great. My G60 droped off once. -
thanks a lot howard.i know sony vaio is very quite.my bro is in usa now he ll turn back to turkey 1 monts later and im so hesitant what laptop to buy.sony vaio fw 465 or that http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9568112&type=product&id=1218125777703 which laptop do you recommend me?

I was at Best Buy today staring at this laptop.... just staring....
Did the same thing to it yesterday too....
It's almost like it's calling my name... -
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
I swore I saw one with engraving DMAN on it too......
-
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
If you are here that means you are into game to some degree. Vaio is nicely built, quiet, beautiful, brand name...but you will forever hold your FW and stare at someone else's Asus while they are playing the latest game and wonder...WHAT IF? -
lol
I wish it had a graphic intensive game installed on it so I could see it in action. Hearts and Solitaire don't cut it! I ran the Index and it was at 5.7 I believe.
BTW, when did this laptop come out? I am hoping to run Diablo III on it. -
so when I turn on my laptop and it says "dman" that's what it means?

Asus G60 was officially sold starting Oct 22nd and vieo card GTX 260M is 256 bits where ATI 4650 mobility is 128 bits. 260 has index of 6.8 bu windows index is nto a reliable indicator of performance. If you want a true gaming laptop, u need a card that is 256 bits. Go for sony if u occassionally game and at lower resolution if u want balls out fight....G60 is yours. -
if only it had higher res i'd get this one in a heartbeat
-
sorry for the dumb question, but what exactly does extreme performance do? does it overclock, or...?
-
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
That was what I was thinking...but after loading COD up its not bad, actually helps with head shots as they are bigger
If I want 1080P gaming I'll use my desktop 1920 x 1080, if just quick fast gaming or on the go just flip open the G60

check out pic of Gear4hybrid..I can choose entertainment which is standard but CPU speed fluctuate based on usage or HIGH PERFORMANCE which keep both core running 100% of the time, and at that state, the bottom drop down menu can choose EXTREME TURBO. It did not offer explanation but I would guess it probably slightly overclock the CPU.... -
Then go with G51J-A1, really good deal for $1400. But i prefer lower res specially for laptop, so it will stress less and have more fluid fps on newer games, that said you can always downscale a higher res, i just like to play all at native res.
-
So it does have the EXTREME TURBO option in Power4Gear Hybrid?
Howard can you check this for me?
You don't have to run it but can you just enable it and see how many OC options it has and how high the CPU overclocks are? -
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
If you really want 1080P on laptop, no need to wait for Gentech, free ship and no tax
http://www.amazon.com/G51J-A1-15-6-...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1256444127&sr=8-2
JUst to my tired old eyes....1080p on a 15.6 is a recipe for eyestrain....and I agree with Abula...our GTX 260 sounds good but its the mobile version which equal to desktop 8800GT or 9800GT, still not a bad card but may stress some at high resolution with modern game. That's one of the major reason why I opted for the Bestbuy G60
1) Instant gratification
2) If something goes wrong I just walk in store and they will take care of me
3) 1366 x 768 + GTX 260M will ensure fluid frame rate for quite a while due to the not too high resolution and video card can dedicated more resource to running the game.
4) GTX 260M + 1920 x 1080 looks gorgeous , but when a more demanding game come out..you are stuck between lower resolution for frame rate or higher resolution for eye candy but frame may slow down. -
howard911s Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
Just checked ,at that power4gear screen after i click the HIGH PERFORMANCE tab. A drop down menu present itself says TURBO, by clicking onthe tab
nevermind..how about this...let me attach a pic just taken.
PS: I'm pretty sure its some kind of light OC utility, to bad it didnt indicate how much it OCd...Attached Files:

Time for bed bro, I'll do it next time, but G51 I owned did offer the same option. I enabled it and ran 3D mark, I can't remember but the score went up by a couple hundred points.... -
nothing happend.....
but it's nice to know, that it's there, I would like to know how much it OCs it. -
no offense but does anyone know you can do screenshots, and its been easier since vista with the snipit tool, or print screen, paste into paint.
btw I dont know why Qatar's flag is showing up in the header lol -

Howard, what driver version are you running?
What are your idle clocks?
I have tried both the 186.81 and 186.82, as well as the stock 186.40. Powermizer is not working (it stays at stock clocks on desktop) for me... -
