I'm going by a couple things I've read, and experience with other mobile processors... But since the i7 is so new, and since temps might be causing crashes, it's probably wise to contact Asus.

No it's pretty normal under stress. Just get a laptop cooler and you will eliminate your worries. If it somehow goes above 80-85, then I would start to get worried. However that isn't that guys only problem. He's hearing noises and screen problems, so he needs to contact Asus.

Reicheru when you going 2 get your Laptop in? Mine should be in around 2-12-10.
-
I heard mine is shipping in 24-48 hrs
I'm hoping pretty darn soon!
-
Mine should be shipping on Thursday, so I should get it on Friday or Saturday.

80C is a big number but it is nothing for a Core i processor to run reliably at 24/7. Intel builds some incredible thermal management technology into their CPUs and they do a great job of looking after themselves. If Intel thought 80C was going to result in their CPUs running unreliably then they would lower the thermal throttling point from 100C down to 80C to prevent this from happening. Keep in mind that the thermal shut down temperature isn't until 125C so even at 80C, there is still lots of headroom.

I was just wondering if we got any GPU temps under load?
-
Theres no sensor, or at least no program that can monitor it yet. Not sure which of the 2 it is.

Unfortunately some of these new ATI cards not only with ASUS but some other systems there appears to be no sensor that is being recognized by CPUID/Hardware Monitor.

Kudo, your replies have been wonderful so far in helping me decide if this laptop is worth it! There is something of interest in this post:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5763811&postcount=42
Does that happen to you? -
Good trick by AMD/ATI
I think now Intel should follow the line to hide the processor temperature so that people cannot complain like 80 degree Celsius
-
Newegg added that model for sale sometime today.

It's a JQ model dude, and JustIn was referring to JA model.

Let me run an idea by anyone on this thread. I started the N61JQ-X1 thread but it seems like it is redundant. We have 3 threads going with basically the same people following them. We have N61, N61jq-x1 and N61jq-A1. And I'm assuming there will be more models in the N61 line. Personally I'm getting tired of checking all 3 threads. It seems to me we should all be on the N61 thread. Like Hp dv6 or, sony F series, or Dell studio xps 16.
Or maybee just merge the N61jq x1 and a1 threads. Don't get me wrong I'm loving all the input I can get on this thing. I'm just wondering if its smart to branch out for minor differences. Maybee since the cat is already out of the bag we can't do anything about it but what do you think? -
im with you. might as well add the n71jq to that list too. from what i can tell it is essentially the n61jq, just a bigger screen and another hard drive.
-
So what's the consensus battery life? 2-3 hours?
-
bah, i already own core2duo laptop with integrated graphics, battery on it lasts around 2-2.5 hours while i work in programs i use, and thats all i need... i realized only reason why i wanted this laptop is because i need desktop replacement, but then again, for same price i can get i5-750, 4gb ddr3, 5850hd, 1tb hdd and 22" lcd, overall, it probably performs about 2x better then laptop of the same price... i'm writing this here cause i think many people buying this are also looking for a dtr and i just wanna suggest that you rethink buying dtr, i'm glad i did.
btw, i hope this laptop turns out to be as great as i wanted it to be in the first place, cause i'll probably buy new laptop in a year or so, maybe i get this then
-
I bought this laptop for a DTR. I built a Pentium D Desktop 5 years ago and it finally died. I was going to build another desktop....but since I travel a lot this was the perfect laptop for gaming / price for me. I should have it by 2-12-10...cant wait
-
Mine is about 2hrs 20min on high performance not gaming.
-
Thank you.
-
I'm trying to unify the 3 current threads for the N61. I have just started
a N61JQ thread. No disrespect to kudos and his thread is intened.
I'm just tired of having to check 3 threads for the same thing. If this does not work then never mind!
-
Got my N61jq-a1 yesterday and am already loving it
-
Congatulations. If you get a chance sometime come over to our N61JQ owners Lounge and give us a review! We are trying to combine all the N61 models on this new thread.
-
Would you consider the G51Vx-X3a? Dual Core P8700 2.53 Ghz + GeForce GTX 260m (1920 x 1080)
Im choosing between that and the n61jq since it has the i7...
Both are about the same price... -
my wife's lenovo 14" gets 50-52C idle...it's normal
-
Would you please be kind enough to measure the shipment box dimensions (inches or cms) for me if it's not already stated on the shipment receipt?
-
@kud0s
Can you please confirm the warranty of the model (N61JQ-A1) ?
Is it 2 years global warranty or 1 yr ? -
It's two years from ASUS.

It's two years from ASUS.

Anyone have any advice on an external TV tuner (for cable) that would be compatible with this notebook?
-
This is the old thread, you should probably ask in the new thread.
As for what external TV tuner you should look at, under customization for the N61JQ-A1 at XOTICPC, they let you select a TV tuner if you want and this is the one they have listed. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116031 That's probably a good place to start looking. -
Thanks for the help looks like a great option
