open up the nvidia control panel. i dont' remember where, but there are options to calibrate and resize the screen so that it fits the TV perfectly. mine does that too, but the control panel fixes it.
-
i've noticed that it works on some TV's and doesn't on others. It worked on my Pioneer LCD, but doesn't on my LG. No idea why yet.. would be interested if someone has found a way to make it work all the time.
-
So guys, my CD-ROM drive isn't pulling up when I open my computer. I also can't open the tray while this is happening. I checked device settings and it didn't show up as well.
I notice that I do sometimes have access to the drive after coming out of sleep mode, but I can't find what triggers this.
When I boot up the computer, I can open the tray and even read a bootable disc.
Anyone else have this issue?
-
Mine is getting to 55c or 60c, without running anything !
I've just noticed something that may (or may not
) be relevant. On my Lenovo T500, HWMonitor is showing current battery voltage as 12.32v. But I'm pretty sure that on my UL80VT the voltage shows up as approx 16.5v.
Is this normal ? As you can tell, I don't really have much of a clue about these finer points. The only thing that has prompted me to investigate internal temperatures is the seemingly excessive heat coming from my UL80vt. -
The brightness control on mine works just fine after restoring from hibernate, and I've tried both integrated and discrete graphics. However, when I switch to discrete and then back to integrated, the brightness is locked to whatever it was set in discrete and the brightness control no longer works even though the on-screen indicator still works when I press Fn+F5/Fn+F6. Using the brightness slider in Power4Gear also doesn't work. Switching back to discrete causes the brightness control to work again as normal, but it gets borked again once I switch to integrated. A reboot is required to fix this problem.
I think it's a problem with the drivers or brightness utility getting confused during graphics switching and/or restoring from hibernate. It's not a big problem for me since I rarely need to change brightness, but I do hope Asus can fix this with updated drivers. -
this might sound stupid but...how do i change the settings such that when i get into the windows 7 login page i dont have to click on my account before i type in my password? like i can type in my password straight away without clicking on my account. my account is the only one on my laptop.
-
same issue here. As you say, it isn't really a big deal, it is something that should be addressed.
-
I have a LG plasma too and it doesn't work...
-
Well that kind of stinks. Not that it's a deal breaker for me, but still, it should work as advertised. Maybe in addition to touting the benefits of the HDMI port for transmitting picture and sound over a single cable, the Asus brochure should have an asterick "may not work on your HDTV". Ha!
-
for my set, it works perfectly fine in the samsung lcd i own, even played some game on it
-
I just tried the HDMI port on my UL80VT, and it works well with my Sony Bravia LCD TV, audio and all. I guess the HDMI only works with the discrete graphics though, no HDMI with the Intel integrated graphics.
Also, I noticed that the audio is supplied by the Nvidia HD audio, not the Realtek HD audio. I guess that's why it won't switch to discrete graphics if the Realtek control panel utility is still running; I have to end the process manually. Switching back to integrated graphics also disables the Nvidia HD audio and enables the Realtek HD audio. -
Can you give me your arms when you process the HDMI on the TV, it's automatic on asus?

Umm, I think I prefer to keep my arms with me.
All I did was plug the HDMI cable to my UL80VT and my LCD TV while still in Intel integrated graphics mode, then switched to discrete graphics using the Asus Power4Gear utility (Quiet Office to High Performance) and then voila, my desktop is showing on my TV perfectly. I didn't have to mess with the Nvidia control panel at all. The builtin speakers also disabled itself so all audio is through my LCD TV via HDMI. -
This is good to hear, since I also have a Sony LCD TV {XBR4}.

Posting the same message twice on the same day isn't going to get you a response any faster.
-
just press spacebar...
-
Thank you, I will try your method
-
This happened to me once, and I was confused at first until I remembered that I had disabled the ODD through the Power4Gear utility. Enabling the ODD in Power4Gear made Windows recognize the drive again and everything was back to normal. If the ODD hasn't been disabled in Power4Gear and Windows still doesn't recognize the drive, try reinstalling the Intel Matrix Storage drivers. If that still doesn't fix it, it's time to call Asus Technical Support for a probable RMA.
Using discrete graphics, my idle temp is 51C and during heavy gaming it gets up to 87C. It does seem high, but so far my gaming on the UL80VT has been stable.
HWMonitor shows my battery voltage to be 16.5V - 17.0V. I don't know whether that's correct or not; it could be that HWMonitor is not showing the voltage correctly because of improper calibration. -
Wow. worked. Thank you sir!
The temps mine puts out is concerning to me, as some users I've spoke with haven't even cracked 80. I've passed 95 a couple of times. -
When do you think they will update the graphics card and offer at least a gig of a the new ati cards?
-
I just got my UL80VT in the mail today and it is beautiful. The only problem is that I'm having major problems with the touch pad. It is ridiculously sensitive. For some reason the computer thinks I am constantly tapping, and simply gliding the mouse over an icon either drags the icon or opens the program. If I hold my finger still, the pointer jerks around by a solid centimeter at times. Changing the pointer speed or the PalmTracking sensitivity does nothing to correct the problem. ASUS tech support was unable to help and will be getting back to me within 72 hours. Did anybody else have a similar problem? I can't find a touch pad sensitivity control anywhere. Thanks.
-
The pad sensitivity setting is in Control Panel/Mouse/Elan tab/Options/Palm Tracking
-
I had this problem too at first although not quite as bad as yours. After updating the Elan touchpad driver to 7.0.5.9 and tweaking the settings through the Elan control panel, it's now working much better. It seems that the original Elan driver that came with the notebook (version 7.0.5.7 on mine) is a bit wonky.
You can download the Elan 7.0.5.9 driver through http://support.asus.com by clicking Download then choosing Notebook, Apps, Touchpad, then after selecting your OS it should be listed on the page.
After updating, go to the Elan control panel then set PalmTracking sensitivity to maximum and disable Drag and Drop setting to get rid of unintended dragging. I also switched around the 2-finger and 3-finger Tapping settings so that popup menus can be activated with 2-finger taps just like a MacBook.
-
I just got this as well, and I had just a few questions.
I cant seem to ifind info on the type of ram/hard drive it has. IN other words, if I wanted to upgrade, what hard drive or RAM would I have to buy? -
The RAM used is of type DDR3 PC3-8500 1066MHz SODIMM. The hard disk drive used is a standard 2.5-inch SATA 3Gb/s drive. For faster and quieter performance, you can replace the hard disk drive with a SSD (Solid-State Drive) as long as the interface is SATA, but it's more expensive than regular HDD.
-
guys, i have a problem with memory leak.... any idea what shuld i do, i keep on having low memory after 3 hours of usage. a 4gb machinery should not be this fast, because when im using 2gb machine, it lasted me 1 week.
-
Sounds like you open a ridiculous amount of programs or you have defective memory sticks. Try running memtest86 and then send it back if that's the case.
-
Run memtest86 for a few hours and see if there are any errors. If not, then it's most likely a software problem. Perhaps malware got into your machine and is causing the memory leak, or some software utility you installed is causing it. Use the msconfig utility to find out what programs and services are running during startup, and look for suspicious software. You can also use Task Manager and look under the Processes tab to find out which process is eating up the most memory there.

Asus UL80JT coming soon

Thanks for starting the owners' lounge!
I have added it to the Info Booth and to the Reviews and Owners' Lounges Index.
E.B.E. -
I cleaned install windows........
Which driver do I download from the asus website for WIRELESS for ul80vt?
There are too many there...which one do I need?
Thanks. -
It's located under the "Advanced" power settings - named something like "Action taken when resuming from sleep" or something similar.
-
Uninstall the Elantech drivers and software. Then let windows 7 find drivers over the internet.
You will find that your touchpad problems magically disappear, just like mine did !
Only slight downside, is that there is no two finger horizontal scroll available, and no 3finger right click (which I found never worked anyway, it takes about 10 attempts to hit all 3 fingers simultaneously). Don't worry though, the benefits of having a fully functional touchpad far outweigh the costs of losing these two added features.
cheers ! -
none- windows 7 will install it automatically.
The only things you will need from asus after a clean install:
ATK
Power4Gears
Nvidia drivers (must get these from Asus) -
Nice catch! Time for an additional owners lounge?
-
So is there anyway to keep this trackpad from thinking I am clicking everytime I touch it? I cant find any utilities.
-
Is there anyway to do a clean install of windows 7 without automatically installing bloatware? I did a clean install of windows using the disks provided but it still automatically installed all of the bloatware! Am I going to have to get another copy to do a fresh install??? I just want windows 7 and the drivers!!! grrrrrrr....
-
well it's not out yet.perhaps when someone gets their hands on one or more info is released a new lounge should be open.right now even the specs look a bit wrong esp for the GPU shown(should be 512MB not 1GB, i think).
can't believe that UL30/80VT is obsolete so soon and gets updated to UL30/80 JT.i'm guessing there'll be something to replace the UL50VT too. -
Do you guys think that the Core i7 620UM and 640UM would get the Asus Turbo33 Overclock technology? Because i saw a video it stated Core 2 Duo enhance performance by up to 33% ...
Not sure what's wrong with their advertisement though LoL.. -
Dodoman (or anyone here), could you please tell me where in Dubai I can find a UL80VT? I'm actually in Abu Dhabi and certainly haven't seen it here anywhere...
Many thanks for any help! -
Here's a 2-finger scrolling hint that I discovered that I have not seen posted anywhere: You do not need to slide/scroll with both fingers!
If you use one hand (I use my right, the 3rd and 4th fingers), simply keep the 4th finger stationary, pressing lightly on the trackpad, and scroll by sliding your other finger up or down slightly.
Or, press and hold a left hand finger ( I use my index finger) lightly on the trackpad and scroll with your right index finger. You can quickly lift your left hand down to the click-bar this way, if you use it.
Works like a charm!
-
Any reason you guys see (aside from it being discontinued) that I shouldn't order the U50Vg-AM1 over the UL50vt? to me seems a few better components ie. wireless (5100), bluetooth... what ya think?
http://asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=LiYo2wX6p5bFiaSI -
I just reinstalled windows 7 without the bloatware (I finally figured out how...
). What are the essential drivers to install? I think I got all of them (GPU, Power... etc...) Do I have to install all of the ATK stuff? What of the ATK is essential for the laptop?
Thanks. -
My UL80VT's GPU hit 98C (=208F) last night running TF2! The ambient temp was about 20C (68F) and the fan was running the whole time. I also had the bottom elevated for more airflow.
Is this going to fry my GPU? Should I call ASUS?
Thanks! -
Check this thread for details about Asus's utilities/bloatware:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=380681
98C during load is quite warm, but I'd still consider that acceptable. Many GPUs at load often hit temps in the 80s-90s. If you're concerned about the heat, I'd suggest investing in a laptop cooler. -
UL series is lighter, has switchable graphics and far longer battery life... aiming for a more travel- and portability-minded user. The trade-off is a slower CPU.
-
Thanks... I could get a cooler but I'm just wondering if my particular ul80 has a cooling issue compared to others? (I confirmed max temp of 96C tonight)
-
got to wait and see on the real thing.silly Asus ads always seem a bit hokey.
-
The highest that I have ever gotten is 95C.
This may be incorrect so don't take my word for 100% true. The ul80 does not have an intake port for the fan, therefore a standard laptop cooler would not help. The fan only pushes air out.
This may help.
