thanks! good to know.
and if the gpu will fall behind before the cpu, are there any options for upgrading those normally? or just some OCing? or am i just looking at getting a new laptop at that point?
-
-
Well you cannot upgrade the GPU. You would be stuck with OCing. By the time the GPU is falling behind games / applications, it is then time to buy yourself a new laptop.
-
or you can stop playing games and concentrate on real life work lol -
Ahahahah..xD

Playing games is real life work
Just depends on your job. -
Yea you are right. Lots of people do! Just depende on it!
-

And then there are the only 99% of you who play games at work that are not supposed too! So that counts as work too, as long as you dont get caught.
-
Unfortunatelly i'm still 17 and not working..i'll start pretty soon.for now, i'm limiting to just learn what I can and play!

I did, I got up ate some chicken wings and started some reports. I think I will go make some coffee now, go outside for a few minutes of fresh air and then come back to my bum.
I almost brought my wii controllers to work tonight to play some Blazblue, and I am downloading some game soundtracks to listen too while I work. -

I have a question when I ordered from xotic one of the questions it asked is I wanted a 1 Year "No Dead Pixel" Guarantee.correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't that be covered by the 3 year warranty I selected?
-
Roland@XoticPC Company Representative
The Dead Pixel Warranty will be a separate warranty from the notebooks parts/labor warranty.
On ASUS Ensemble Models only, ASUS provides a Zero Bright Dot Dead Pixel Guarantee. All Asus Ensemble systems are guaranteed not to have even one flaw in a single pixel (either dead or stuck). ZBD Guarantee is good for thirty (30) days from purchase date as invoiced. After which the regular LCD pixel policy goes into effect. RMA must be requested directly with Asus' notebook technical support or RMA service representative. Asus will send a shipping label for the notebook's return to them and will return it via FedEx. Any claim after thirty (30) days will be treated as a regular RMA process and not giving the ZBD LCD panel exchange treatment.
Selecting our "1 Year Dead Pixel Warranty" On ASUS Ensemble Laptops will guarantee that your system's screen will not have any dead or partially-lit pixels for 1 Year from purchase. If any imperfections are noticed on the screen in the first 30 Days of delivery; XOTIC PC will cover all costs related to replacement of the screen including round trip expedited shipping costs. (Continental USA only) -

Dead pixels or permanently lit sub-pixels almost always happen in the manufacturing process.
Therefore if they are not there when you take it out of the box they almost never show up beyond 30 days unless it is years down the road. That is why you rarely see the "Zero Bright Dot" or "Dead Pixel" Guarantee for more than 30 days... -
It's Preordered baby...
-
So your saying the 1 year is not worth it

I agree with Vicious. You do realize that the i7 720 has hyperthreading? And I don't think there is any piece of software even close to taking full advantage of quad core hyperthreading. That's 8 threads of processing I believe.
I think in the future we shall see the i7 being even faster than it is now due to software being the bottleneck.
No question. I like to just compare and this is what I got from Alienware: You have upgrade EVERYTHING to get it up to par with G73JH. $2,958 WITHOUT the 4870 Crossfire. What you get for $2,958? Not as good as the G73.... i7 720|HD4870 Single|1 TB Raid 1|17" 1920*1080 LED|8 GB 1066 DDR3|Windows 7 64.
- As you see it's twice the price and it's still not as good. Even with CrossFire not as good. You can't discount DX11 and tesselation. Tesselation will be HUGE, the HD4870 crossfire just won't be as good.
G73JH is incredible value right now. I'm in the same boat, I'll use this for 1.5-2 years, after warranty I'll just get another one. Instead of $3,000 every 4 years.
- No matter how beefy your GPU may be, it will be outdated. DirectX is always changing and new technology is always developing. And those new technology are better than having just raw power now. Better to have what's needed and the technology and keep upgrading and keeping pace than blowing your entire savings on just raw power. At least my opinion.
Lastly what I really like about the G73JH. It still looks like a laptop. It's sleek, nice design, and I'll still be able to transport it. While Clevo/Sager/Alienware are really awesome, they are boulders. MASSIVE, and at those prices, might as well just get a desktop... -
Thanks for all the feedback, I'm excited for this thing, it'll be my first computer thats mine and not the parents, and the first thing I'll have that will handle newer games.
So what will be the bottleneck on this thing? (assuming stock configuration) the gpu? -
I ordered mine yesterday from NCIX Canada. I had just ordered a Dell Studio XPS 16 and was informed by one of their CS reps from Mumbai that they screwed up in processing my credit card. After discovering the problem was on their end, I just popped over to the NCIX website and saw it there (a new addition from the last time I looked last week). Waayyy more laptop for $100 less than I would have paid for the Dell. I now have predominately all Asus computer products in our home (Asus eee PC, eee box, and 3 other desktop computers with Asus motherboards and components) and have been very happy. My only disappointing Asus buy was an R1E tablet pc which overheated and was buggy as he**. Fortunately, that was one that my work purchased.
I am looking forward to getting my G73JH! -
Omg I am freaking obsessed with checking for updates on my order status, even though I know it probably won't be updated for weeks.
I am drooling just waiting for this.... -
Correct. The gpu is mobile clocked at slightly lower than desktop 5750 speeds. With the apparently proper cooling system Asus has built, we should easily get this up to desktop 5770 speeds. That will make the Gpu less of a bottleneck and closer to the awesome value of the desktop 5770 Ati card.

For what it's worth, Justin is saying in the other thread that some with start to ship tomorrow!
-
Has anyone been able to find the G73JH on any Asus website? It is not at the ROG website either. Thanks!

Guys who is in favor of me starting the official Owners Lounge to replace this "crew members lounge" so we can shorten the length and really be on topic?
We may have actual owners as soon as Saturday if they ship on Friday with overnight shipping, so its time to move into a ownership thread agree? -
Please do this. It will really streamline things and create a "proper" owner's thread.
-
Yeah that is a good idea! I am all for it.

+1, rename this the "G73JH Watercooler" or something, start a new Owners and post some strict rules on the first page about posts.
I would appreciate. -

Ok sounds good I will contact a mod about locking this one so it can sink into the abyss and start a proper thread.
