i'm thinking about just getting it stocked as it. I'm looking at the benchmarks and I don't see anything difference in performance between them.

Currently, I'm in the process of deciding upon a college, and depending upon which I choose, I may or may not be able to provide my own laptop. If not for this conundrum, I would've already pre-ordered one of these beauties.

my g51j-a1 will not cover the full price of g73jh but for another 150~200$ i think it's definitely worth it..

Your review was what initially convinced me to purchase the G51J a few weeks ago. It did have a lot of promise, but just had too many bugs. I hope our initial reviews will convince you to switch over to the G73! This Ati chip should be something really great.

Judging from the fact that Intel isn't supporting USB 3.0 till 2011, I'm going to go with zero chance of USB 3.0.

Also, I pulled the trigger and canceled my Sager order and put the funds to this fine machine. Sales said this is going to be one of their most hottest sellers so there wont be any excess inventory.

 

Man, when I first read you got the W90 I was trying my best to get one but I couldn't. I am really willing to switch to the G73JH, just for the Radeon HD5870. I am 85% conviced anyways. If a buyer somehow pops up, then I will make the switch.

Hahaha, I am not doing it because of the BSoD or general unhappiness or anything like that. I am just a die hard ATI fan and I never had the chance to have a high end Ati GPU.

Thanks, I know it had alot of promise, and I feel partially responsible because I didn't find the BSoD until MUCH later (after I forced it lol) but yeah, I feel like going for the radeon HD5870.

I still feel a bit of responsibility as a G51J owner so I will try to fix it soon. I will probably get the G73JH when it officially launches, so I still have a few days to kill the BSoD issues

 

we still do not know what this machine looks like! The machine listed is just a screen of OLDER models probably the G72. The official design/looks/ports of the G73 have YET to be released!!

A buyer will pop up if you want to sell it. There are NONE listed on ebay right now, and the ones that were listed just a week ago all sold if you look at "closed auctions". They were NIB, but they sold for 1450ish. I think if you really wanted to, you could unload it there for only a minimal loss. I am RMA'ing mine to ZipZoom.

I don't blame you at all for the issues. You never found them until you went creeping around, and then it blew up on you! I actually feel more badly for you than for me! haha

If anything, I thank you for getting me into gaming laptops at all. I have been a desktop guy forever and never even considered a laptop because they were so weak (gaming wise). Now with the 5870 around the corner (I am a huge ATi guy) I am just as excited as you about that possible horsepower in the lappy!

 

Thanks! Glad I could help somehow hehe. I have been a gaming laptop owner since the their real first birth, with the Mobility Radeon 9600. Since I am always moving around and hardly ever at one place, I don't use desktops much so I alway stry to look for a powerful enough gaming laptop and still be able to move around and go to lan parties.

It is sad about the BSOD on this unit, though I gotta say I was sill very pleased with its overall performance. I will try to find a buyer soon and then opt to get this amazing G73JH!

FurMark is also a popular GPU stability software. I'd probably use that along with actual gaming for GPU testing.

 

Furmark didn't cause BSODs for anyone, so its not really the amount of stress but HOW it is stressed that was somehow causing the BSODs in the G51j

Well, the G51 may be an exception. But for any gamer, Furmark is usually still used for testing GPU stability and I wouldn't skimp on that for the new G73 series.

 

GPU temperatures maybe, but not stability. I could run furmark for 20+ minutes at 620/1100/1650 in frmark, but I could never get past test 1 of 3dmark06 or more than a few minutes of gaming at those clocks.

 

Or you could try the OCCT PSU test. If your laptop can survive that for twenty minutes, it can survive anything.
