This is probably a dumb question, but will this laptop have a MXM slot so that users can upgrade their video cards?
-
-
you're right, at this point its a pretty dumb question =P. but chances are most likely not, if you look at 99.9% of asus' previous iterations of gaming laptops.
-
Well, why is it that, in 2010, so many laptops lack the option of user-upgradable video cards? I hate to make this a sticking point, but I want the ability to improve parts, from time to time, to get the most use out of the product I purchase. I would rather not spend a ton of money for one small port.
-
I think Element was also partly making fun of the fact that the Asus machines tend to use an Asus proprietary GPU, which uses what is essentially a reversed MXM slot.
-
If you want upgradeable Gpu's, buy a Sager, Clevo, or Alienware. Asus reverses the pin-out for the mxm3.0 card slot so that you can't pop in a new mxm3.0 compatible chip.
-
Oh my god. I have to take a break from the main G73h thread. The amount of dumb questions, repeated questions, and general negativity is really starting to annoy me. Why do people even bother if they aren't going to buy it!?

For those who haven't seen it, I just posted a new G73JH video in the lead post of this thread.
-
Thanks for the Vid Striker!
Actually I'm not even bothering to look at that thread because one person will come in with X fact..then 30 pages later some other person barges in and goes "HEY GUYS LOOK WHAT I FOUND" which was the exact same info posted 30 pages ago and on the first post in this thread that Striker has kindly included based on the first release of the info.
While it may have over 1000 posts its still easy to skim through since most of it is just the same repeated info, and people are too lazy to even go through that or use the search button =/ -
Thinking outside the square, lets hope the G72Gx sells well over the next few weeks... Maybe that will help the release date....
-
Ehy guys, HERE I AM!!! I'm joining you with this new spectacular laptop!
I've just a question, I have the money, I'm going to buy it for sure but, do you think it's better order it now or wait and buy when it's ready to ship?
Also, where do you reccomande to buy it?
Thx a lot... Hope to have this monster on my hands as soon as possible!
-
I'd say its better now so that you reserve your spot in line, its gonna sell out quick! And as always, I personally recommend getting it from Gentechpc.com. Best service I've found on the net.
-
I'll second that, I changed to gentechpc.com...

Well Lookie Here Folks!......
Just as Ken Lee stated earlier, the chipset is the HM55, rather than the PM55. Also, unlike the W90, Asus will be supporting the Xtreme processor this go-round. Look at all those processors, LOL!

My, my, now I'm considering dashing out the cash for an i5.
Does anyone here know whether its possible to upgrade the CPU without messing up the warranty at a later date after the laptop ships to me? Can I say, get it done at the ASUS agents in Australia or something?
-
sorry for the dumb question, but which is the meaning of "...supports USB 3.0..."? has the g73 an usb 3.0 port, or can i buy an external hard-disk with it?
-
I think it means that in the future you'll be able to buy a PCMCIA card to get some extra USB3.0 ports. Correct me if I'm wrong.
-
Pcmcia ??? Don't see express card either.
-
<s>The chipset can support USB 3.0, but Asus has not opted these ports in the G73 series.</s> It's got nothing to do with PCMCIA.
-
The Intel HM55 chipset does not support USB 3.0.

USB 3.0 support is added to the ASUS N series using a control chip from Fresco Logic.

Correct, you are. I retract my previous statement
-
ok so here is a question for striker and some others....
when you guys opt for the upgraded processors or the 1333 ram(i know some like striker's was free from ken's mistake) are you doing this for real world differences or benchmarks?
i ask mainly because i am the type of person who has to have maxed out options... just look at my car for example...lol... but is it really worth it for day to day use and for an avid gamer... i don't play crysis... mainly mass effect and mw2 for now...
im just wondering if the added cost is something for someone like myself or just a waste
im also wondering about the faster i5's now since that spec sheet ws posted... supposedly the i7's are better for sli and x fire but the i5's work perfectly well for single gpu apps.... would that be a sensible upgrade to a fast i5? -
there is zero real world gains from 800mhz to 1066mhz (DDR2 to DDR3) and even less from 1066mhz to 1333mhz.

Yes, you are correct Phinagle..... Thanks Bro! I have corrected that post, and added the Intel link. Also placed the Intel link in the lead post of this thread.
Got my wires crossed!

Lol Striker did you change your Avatar to a stealth bomber to simulate your anticipation for the G73?

1. PM ken from gentech and ask when they will have the 5300 available as I'm pretty sure it will be.
2. pretty sure they price match, so ask them about getting the second battery for 110$ -
yup thanks to him we get to see this beautiful machine so all credits go to him.
THANKS iATA -
So, how can I find him? do you have e-mail address?
Thx... -

Feel great about this laptop and my order with GenTech....thanks Ken!

Hey guys there's something I've to ask you.
I sent an e-mail to Ken and he said "Wireless 5300 will not be compatible since it required 3 antenna wires, all new Asus laptops only has two antenna wire and some has only one".
So, why someone of you has the 5300? What about xoticpc? they have the possibility to upgrate it. Is it a lie?
IDK what to do... For the extra battery he said they do price match. -
@ eXtreme092
Info Here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=400911
I'm guessing the benefits of 5300 w/two antenna over default wireless will be small but I don't know enough to judge.
I'm currently waiting for a reply from xoticpc to see if they have any new info regarding this. -
For 5300 wireless card it required 3 antenna wires, we just found out all Asus laptops has removed third antenna wire and some of the models even has only one wire (M60J), that's why don't offer 5300 card as an upgrade.
G71Gx for example, it has 3 antenna wire but the new G72 only has 2.
For G73JH we won't know if it has 3 wires until we receive the actual unit to test, but most likely it will have only 2 wires just like all other Asus notebooks, so before we found out if it support 5300 we will not offer the upgrades.
