oh then that might be it!!!
I have the same thing, like horizontal lines moving to the left or cracking whatever

is it easy to reconnect? I don't really want to touch too much inside there. I am afraid of messing up something.

70 degrees on the master card is not unheard of at all in the bios , The master card itself runs about 15 degrees hotter then the slave card all the time . The card run at 3d clocks in the bios 550/850 and the fans only spin at 2k . The drivers in windows and power play are what tell the cards to run @ 2d clocks.

Whatisnotebook They are 2 seperate cards.

it is facile. the only thing I want to mention is to disconnect the fan wires carefully, they are fragile.

I don't see how that can be correct. 70C and you haven't even loaded the OS yet? What is the gpu running that could be pushing the temp up to that? And what are the temps like when in Windows, even worse gaming? All I can see is that the vent in the back where the air is coming out is hot to the touch, so much so that I really am worried it's going to do damage to my desk. And now the video card crashes are coming for frequently now, probably cuz my vid card is about to die due to overheating. Can you confirm Quad, by going into ur bios and checking the VGA temp?

Justin is just trying to help you so you dont have to RMA it . But since it seems you dont want to mess with your PC at all , just box it up and send it back . Its really that simple . Its not the first nor will it be the last time people buy something new and have issues . every forum for every notebook theres people that have tons of issues , its the nature of the beast sadly . So just RMA it and dont even bother trying to waste more of your time .

NOPE!!! Crossfire is basicly ATI's version of SLI witch means the 2 cards are bridged together via a simple cable. if that cable goes bad than you will have to get a new one(duh) and disable one of the cards and just use one (another duh) LOL!!!

2 cores that would be nice. i meen 4 cores on 2 cards that will be like mega WIN in the pwnage dept. 2048Mb VIDRAM!!! SWEET!!!!

Well if this was a software issue, or something minor I would definitely go along. But this is a major hardware issue, where permanent damage is being done. There's nothing I can do to fix it.

the type of the cable port IS a flaw design. it is easy to get loose during shipping. I have a mp3 using this kind of port on it screen. Once I put it in my pocket for a day and then the screen displayed nothing. Disassembling the machine, I found a connection problem.

Yes sereph513 i have seen those temps in the bios my friend . The master card runs hotter period and theres no arguing that either. i have had my slave card in the master slot and vice versa . i have had this machine apart and back together a few times and while thermal paste could infact help your temps or just reseating the heatsink it self could infact lower the temps your vertical lines sound like something else. Once the fans kick in to do there thing IE gaming, temps are fine and actually stay lower then many notebooks i have owned over the many years ive been doing this. The CPU temps also shoot up in the bios . Why? because theres no power management going on in the bios its pretty simple really.

Open up your ATI control panel and the temps are in there under the overdrive portion . HW monitor does not support the M98 yet.

Here is what i do to monitor my temps and make sure everythings A OK .

Open the Ati control panel, bring up the temp gauge. Now fire up a 3d game let it run for a few minutes in actual game play then ALT-tab out . The highest temp will stick for about 2 seconds and this will give you enough time to see how hot the card is actually getting.

There is a finger sized notch cut out right where the battery meets the panel , slide it back and then pull up, it will come right off.

If you want to avoid damaging the sockets the cable plugs into i would recomend removing them. it would make it easier to take off and put back on.

The cable is on the bottom side of the cards and yes you would have to physically remove both cards to reseat the cable. The cable is on there very well if seated properly since it has 2 square plugs to seat to each card .

It is almostly impossible to disassemble. you have to take off the keyboard, disconnect the bluetooth and wireless card, take off video card and then take off the whole motherboard. As a result, you can at last see the cpu. it is challenging, both physically and psychologically.

Ya the designs of some of the laptops ive seen are horrid internally, there built in layers and have 5 thousand screws, all different sizes . This one is brilliant and more like a desktop since the entire machine is accessible all from the bottom panel.

After you removed all the screws and make sure you did including the ones holding the fans on . Pull from the end where the fan is and lift foreward . the reason it feels like there hard to get off is because theres a bunch of thermal pads stuck to the GPUs and it takes a bit of force . Also make sure your laptop is cool before taking the heatsink off otherwise the thermal pads could tear or stick to the GPU and you dont want that .

theres 2 screws holding the main card down and 1 holding the slave card, so dont be confused when you only see 1 on the slave card because theres 2 holes on the card itself.

WHY THE HECK would they only support the slave with one screw?

a card is a card expensive all the same i would just put another screw in there just to make sure it isn't going anywhere.

wait... there are 2 screw holders under the card..... right?
