Ya man request an RMA and get that bad boy sent out so you can get it back and start having the fun you paid for.
-
-
or get them to send you the bios update files so everyone else can get back to enjoying their purchase..
quad, you already know it was more than likely the bios...all them bios problems in the fx forums...lol
which stopped raid and had a great deal to do with over heating. or was that the hp forums..i forget..lol -
Would you guys think I'm better off having this Asus tech. personally attend to my computer and get it back, or push harder for a new unit that hasn't been looked at?
If I get the same unit "repaired," then I am looking for this new bios to be installed and any other software fixes. Is that all or should I specify that this tech. do any additional things? I really want this to be done right this time, don't want to go through this again. -
Ya i always had a sneaking feeling it was the bios
but to save them(asus) on all the shipping etc, im surprised they just didnt post the bios and had the techs walk them through it over the phone. Its to bad they havent posted the new one yet so someone with an ailing machine could test it out and probably get the people just lurking the forums who dont post back up and running, if thats the case of it being the bios only.
-
if all it was was a bios...then it really wouldn't matter in the end... means you had a machine with good hardware but a faulty bios.
-
maybe it's the VBIOS?
-
Though some of firebirds issues were far worse then simple boot locks . Not being able to play any games or artifacting etc are usually much more then a simple bios fix .
Could have also been the Vbios like E- pointed out as well or another combo of both (all speculation of course)
-
could be that as well...main things
vbios
bios
video driver
Quadzilla
exactly...stuff i pointed out about 1000 post earlier...lol (but all speculation because i don't own a w90vp) -
Ya and if its a combo that big ( for the average consumer) then Asus would have rather had you ship it in then make the person who just bought it deal with that mess. -
I'd think it was a power issue in the BIOS, and the VBIOS needed to be flashed. Ya know, there's one way to tell about the VBIOS. Someone with the new, working rig needs to screenshot gpu-z so we can compare to previous shots.
-
Alright, this tech. seemed very capable of fixing the problem. I can guarantee him that if it isn't, then I either want my money back or a full replacement. Hopefully they don't have to open the unit, as I want all the internals in perfect condition. The only other issue is that pesky headphone jack. Anyone know how involved that repair would be?
FedEx says Asus will receive my computer on monday.....which is NOT overnight shipping, as it was sent out thursday. That's disappointing, I was hoping they'd have the weekend to work out the issues, but considering everything else has gone wrong, so should the shipping.
-
it was a combo almost that big for the whitebook....
because, no one wants to do rma's on bad bios flashes...that's why....
means you could sit and experiment with the rma backing to protect you... allot of manufactures and resellers don't like that kind of a loophole. some don't care, but most do. that's shipping fees and time spent working on a machine they don't get paid for. -
I feel like a broken record.. VBIOS. ATI Mobility cards in Crossfire aren't as easily flashed as a mobo BIOS.
-
Hehe, yea, you're right. I'm a bit skeptical mine will be such an easy fix. I requested that this tech. not send the w90 back to me until he verified that the games I listed that were problematic run without issue. I don't care if benchmarks run, because they ran for me too. Games are what I care about. Hopefully my requests can be arranged, because I want to get a perfect unit back, whether it's new or repaired is less important in the long run. No reason why I should have to go through this process twice. I'll be tracking the progress on my computer very carefully once they receive it because, again, I don't want it back if it isn't fixed to my satisfaction. I'll keep everyone here informed if it helps other people RMA successfully.
-
Im sure what ever the problem was they have a handle on it now firebird, so i wouldnt sweat it to much . As for the game testing to make sure said games work specifically, i would not hold my breath on that because manufactures of computers always point back to the game makers for issues your having, but i really doubt your going to have any problems like you were having.
-
Oh yea, it was definitely overnight shipping. And I got the package to the FedEx place well before the shipments went out. The website confirms the package was sent out thursday. Why it didn't get there today like it should have is beyond me. Delivery date is scheduled for the 16th, monday. Disappointing to say the least...adds another 2-3 on my wait time.
-
Where is the shipment now? You got the tracking info? I got impatient with my OCZ and drove an hour to the FedEx hub to pick it up so I wouldn't have to wait.
-
Well I'm sending, not receiving. And as far as I can tell, the package is in California, probably in the local distribution center. In theory, the package was on the plane thurs. night into friday. Then on friday, today, it should've gone out locally to Asus. I don't know what happened, but it never got to Asus, which is the critical part of the delivery...DOH!
-
Ohhhh.. I get it now.
Well, call Asus an' tell em to go pick it up from the hub
*crickets* -
OK, what kind of performance are others getting in Crysis? I can play ok on low at full res but anything higher is about 6 fps. Mine was 2nd batch so not out of the woods and still the older BIOS. Wondering is I should RMA to be on the safe side lol.
-
6fps ? something must be off lol. i know very little about how ATI drivers operate so maybe E- can chime in on this one . You should be playing on all high with no problems so something is a miss.
-
6 is wrong...
It's gotta be higher. -
That's what I thought, and thats with OC on!!
-
Any AA or AF?
-
did you check to make sure you don't have AA or AF and both cards are working in crossfire
-
8x AA no settings for AF
-
That's the problem.
Our runs were on 0 AA or AF. -
8xaa ? no way bro, not going to happen at native. trying turning off AA entirely and see what happens and go from there.
Also try turning Cat AI at "Advanced"
im trying to do some digging to see what others have had success with for crysis/ati. -
Yup, that did it. Life would be easier if I wasn't so dumb lmao. Thanks for your help.
-
We're all here to learn.
Now hand over the data on the runs.
You can host pictures on NBR too.
I'm currently installing dox's drivers to see if I get different results. -
When you get a moment if you could do a GPU run at native with no AA on and everything set to high that would be fantastic and much appreciated .
X:/crysis/bin64 GPUbenchmark.bat double click that and let us know the results
X:/being the drive you have crysis installed on
-
Will do that now.
-
glad that all got settled.
-
Ah well guess no benches tonight .
-
I ran it but it is doing the same as before. It runs three times then hangs. I am averaging 36fps but I can't get that final report at the end.
-
My updated drivers (Dox 181.221) are about 26-29 FPS as well @ high 1920 x 1080 no AA/AF. Doing a second run before I upload SS. Very slightly higher. Will run very high bench later as well.
-
I did some searching and could not find anything related to why its hanging
but thanks for the effort.
Hey Dtwn when your running the benchmark does it say MGPU on your screen indicating SLI is enabled ? i would think your machine should be even faster but i could be wrong John would know better then i on that one .
Also to make sure SLI is working proper, open your nvidia control panel highlight manage 3d settings and at the top youll see a tab that says 3d settings and click on the show sli visual indicators .
-
Eh, I don't have the manage 3d settings tab. I did enable the SLI visual indicators though.
Will rerun benchmark. -
if you don't have it, it means your dox drivers didn't install right. it comes with every single driver installed, except for standard vga.
36 fps at what res and settings? -
Well thats odd you dont have it . When you install new drivers do you do the usual reboot into safe mode ,driver sweeper routine ? if there not there you may have to click the advanced tab as well for advanced settings. -
Oh boy. I'll get to fixing that eventually I guess. lol Thanks for the headsup.
-
That should have been at native res and high settings because its what i had politely asked for
.

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I still have my t9400 in my system at 1920*1200 at very high i average 18. annd at high i averave 27fps.
in the middle of the second i noticed i should of done the test at 1080p but it will maybe increse 2-3fps. -
no problem
thanks quad.
get to rerunning
-
First 3DMark '06 run = 13464
Not too bad considering I haven't tweaked anything yet. -
Yes, very nice score. 13.5k is still A LOT on a $2200 laptop. Overclocking the cpu and gpu to the max in turbo gear and catalyst is what's going to push you over 15k. More importantly, the extra cpu overclock will help eliminate any cpu dependance, letting the overclocked graphics cards really tear through the frames. I'm confident a 3.3 Ghz cpu with two very fast graphics cards will last me a long time, especially compared to a mainstream notebook. That's where I see the real value.
Good work, and keep on testing!
-
Anyone feeling up to running 3DMarks for a single card?
-
That would be nice, I'd like to see that too. Then we can really compare the 4870 to the 4850, see how much of a difference there is. Also, it's good to know how much of an improvement the crossfire gives. I wish I could test that now...
-
I got just over 10k in 3mark06 on the 4870x2 in single mode (catalyst 9.2).
the 4850 gets just over 9K -
Is that stock shboyles or OC'd ? Also did you manage to get 9.2 installed on both cards as i know people were having problems with that.
