hey MilestonePC guy, since I see you here, I must ask when you're going to ship me my battery you promised me weeks ago(using the same username there that I use here). I emailed you yet again and got no response to my last email, so I must ask here. Not trying to create a scene, I just want my battery. Thanks.

Thanks to the guys at MilestonePC, I'm now the owner of a very nice W3J. It's been an extremely good experience so far, and they were really helpful when I had some credit card confusion and had to buy the thing over 2 days. :) This is a great notebook.

I had a good experience with MilestonePC as well in purchasing my W3J last week. Although they are slow to reply to emails (they eventually do) it would be best to call them up for quick answers. I had no problem making my email money transfer over 2 days and delivery was quick (they shipped it monday morning and it arrived tuesday afternoon).

So far I am more than satisfied with my machine, did a clean install with my own WinXP CD and the omega drivers. This is my first laptop and so far I'm loving all the power in that small package! :)

it seems the S96J/Z96J owners on the "S96J Graininess Issue Thread " are already celebrating because the new vga bios of their system fixed their issue. im very excited to the new vga bios of W3J if it will ever come.

Awesome..... as it seems that this is related to the X1600 GPU, I wonder if future bios updates for other Asus laptops with this GPU (namely W3J) will also fix this...

Thanks for the reply. Having only had nvidia products my whole life (apart from good ole 3DFX), not sure what to expect with ATI. Are the drivers from ATI as good or better than nvidia? Would this new AMD-ATI merger mean anything for those intending to jump onto the ATI GFX bandwagon?

I'm like you, except opposite. I've been an ATI man all along, never owned a machine with an nvidia. I think you'll be happy with ATI, at least the one that comes with the W3J. It's about the most powerful thing you can get in this form factor at the moment, and with the Omega drivers, for me at least, it's run flawlessly. Not to mention you have the option of overclocking at the click of a mouse button

Where do you all customize your W3j's?

I thought they were ensemble machines...I see peoples sigs and they have 7200rpm HD and 2gigs ram etc.

For instance I want to buy a W3j with the T7200 merom (when available) 2 gigs ram and a 7200 RPM hd...is that possible? Or can I buy it and upgrade the CPU etc myself?

I got mine through 1toppc.com. My last 3 laptops, all asus, came from there.

I was able to get the 2 gigs of ram pre-installed, though it came with the a-data which everyone says is bad. So far it works for me, so *shrug*

As for the 7200rpm drive, that's something you have to do yourself. I keep meaning to do it, but as of yet I've been too lazy; I don't have a huge desire to reinstall everything, and I don't have the hardware I need to get the whole drive imaged. I'll figure that out later.

    Hey there,

It's not necessarily abnormal that you scored that. The default values for the card are 450/450. I have mine overclocked to 510/510, and my 3dm06 is 2174. The test is designed to push your card to its limits, so on a default, 1200 may not be that far off the norm. Also, 3dm results can change +/-100 or so on any given test, so run it a couple more times right after a fresh reboot and see how it does.

Right-click on your desktop, click ATI CATALYST (R) Control Center, click 'Graphics Software' in the left side panel. You should see a field for CATALYST version in the right panel. However, if you have 6.8, it still shows 06.7.

it says :driver packaging version - 8.204.1-...
    catalyst control center - 1.2.2201.31681
and data for 2d, direct 3d and openGl versions.
    there are no 6.8 or 06.7 :(

In that case.... I run out of answer... Maybe it's because you still use the default driver from ASUS... just maybe. Just try to download and install the 6.8 version, and see if your 3Dmark05 marks goes up.

You know, I see so many people talking about the grainy-screen issue in here.

I have to admit, maybe this is just me coming from an inferior graphics laptop (C110 Tablet), to this beautiful machine...But I notice NO graininess at all.

I dont know what everyone's been talking about. I see nothing but glossy beautiful images...even on white/off-white/grey pages.

@jterp7: the beta BIOS is the BIOS ver. 209, which gets rid of the graininess in W3J screen and (supposedly) supports Merom in W3J. I don't know if I'm allowed to link the BIOS in here... Ken?

@Chet: check www.comcast.net, see the dark blue background. If you see the graininess, then it's OK, the fix is ready. If you still can't see it, well it's good for you.

robohgedhang, this beta BIOS you speak of is it ATI CCC, or some other driver. I believe you are allowed to post link, I seen others do it but its usually hyperlinked to a word.

I have not experiance any headaches with 6.8. I have 06.7= 6.8. As I've been told.

6.9 is available, don't know what headaches it could produce. Could someone post the problems they are experiancing with 6.9.

LatinoHeat, it's not ATI CCC, it's a W3J's BIOS update, which is still in beta version (but works!), that fixes the graininess screen issue in W3J (please research about this issue yourself) and (supposedly) supports upgrading to Merom in W3J.

    I sent you a PM.

    Ok, I understand.

For ATI CCC the latest is 6.9

The BIOS update, is supposed to fix the issue. Thank you for the PM. I think I will try it when it is fully released. I don't want to try a beta on my notebook, especially when it affects the whole notebook. I would wait for the final release, and when ASUS posts it up in their driver download site.

So what where the headaches about 6.9 ATI CCC.
