Sweet, thanks to all involved! That eliminates my final real complaint about the W3J!

Just wondering, when I press the CD button, from the media panel, is it suppose to light up with the LED, like when you turn on BT, a LED lights up to tell you its on?
-
No, It lights up when the laptop is turned off and when the CD media key is pressed,I ave heard it's related to something like an instant on media mode(like DELL) (if there is one it certainly doesn't work for me) or an audio cd player (haven't tried this one).
-
Phew, thank you for the reply. Thought it was a non functioning LED. Yeah, nothing happens...it just turns on, and nothing appears on the screen. Oh wells, im not complaining.
-
Just got my W3j last night, its beautiful. No buyer's remorse at all even with my fiasco with the hidden partition. Simply an amazing piece of art. =D
-
just got this awesome lappy too
...
-
congratulations to us both XD
-
Just wondering, does the W3J get heavy to lug around? Does it feel as heavy as a 15.4" laptop?
TIA -
no its not heavy..
think of it as a thick math text book, but if you're carrying other things then it adds up, obviously. -
I moved from 15.4" to 14". You can really feel the difference! (2.89KG vs 2KG)
-
If you have all of the accessories, dual batteries, power brick etc yeah it does feel heavy, however if you just travel with the laptop it does feel quite light.

problem with my wireless connection using the w3j.
not really a problem but more of a concern:
could someone please tell me what this means and how to make it go back to normal.
I use Intel Proset/Wireless to connect to my wireless network. Before I used to show me a little popup saying connected and the speed.
Now nothing... but instead the signal meter is white and when i roll over the icon I recieve the message:
Another wireless network utility is communicating with Intel Pro/Wireless adapter
what does that mean, how do I fix it. Is someone trying/already are accessing my notebook. -
It most likely means that Windows is now, for some reason, handling your wireless. You can try disabling Windows from doing it by going through Wireless Connection Properties in the Networks section somewhere in the control panel then the tab named "Wireless Networks" then uncheck "Use Windows to Configure my wireless network settings".
~ Brett -
thanks, i restarted my notebook and all is back to normal.
Could anyone please tell me the version of the orginial Ati CCC version that came with the W3j. I upgraded mines a month ago and to 6.8 I believe and it's been my notebook has been freezing for about a minute or so and would go back to normal afterwards. I believe this is due to the change, but then again I could be wrong. -
Can anyone upload the nifty W3j wallpaper that came with the notebook? I did a clean install and would like to get that back ^^;; Thanks!
-
I made my own since the original's dimensions were slightly off.

HERE'S all the original drivers (or new Asus updates, I think). Just expand the VGA one LH.
edit: oops, link didn't take it as far as I thought it would. You have to enter the Product, Series and Model first. -
Sweet, thanks Nrbelex! =D
-
thanks genaro I changed my driver to the one under VGA.
hopefully this will fix my problem. I hate playing games like halo and having the game freeze on me when I am about to score. I am forced to manually (holding power button) reboot. -
Abit too late, but there has been no reply to this question.
Currently, there is no way to play NHL 07 @ 1280 x 768
-
Hey, OK, thanks.
-
All, I have been experiencing some ghosting issues while watching DVDs. I have hooked up to an external LCD that never had ghosting (8ms), and found some ghosting effects. I have tried different software, WMP and PowerDVD, and that doesnt fix the problem. Could this be a problem associated with the ATI drivers? Before I watched my first DVD on the W3J, there was a VPU Recover.
-
Just thought I'd post a background I made which is perfect for the W3J's resolution. Tell me what you think.
~ Brett -
thats a nice photo did you tak it yourself?
Also check these out......
With the updated bios these backgrounds look great! -
Hi Aaron the rightmost blue background is really great!
So that's what you do in your working time? Hahaha -
Have you tried upgrading your BIOS? You may be experiencing the so-called Graininess Issue.
-
OK I just upgraded my W3J's processor, from Yonah T2400 (1.83 GHz Core Duo) to a Merom T7600 (2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo). Hope everything goes well... I got a 4459 3DMarks in 3DMark05 (usually I got around 4184 with the Yonah T2400). This is with Cat 6.8, no OC.
-
Those are excellent backgrounds, can you post some more? Thanks!
-
Quick question, I was wondering how easy it would be to replace the 4200 rpm hard drive on a W3v?
I am very interested in buying an Asus notebook. Looking at a few models. W3V looks perfect but slow drive is turning me off, I want to pop a 5400rpm drive in there.
Thanks -
Ha ha, yeah not quite my 3D skills are not quite that polished.
If you want more of those go to this website
http://www.digitalblasphemy.com
there are free ones posted on his web site, I go back everynow and again.
I also applied this theme from Zune, it gives your task and windows bars a cool black look, goes great witth these backgrounds.
google: zune windows theme, you can find an .msi install file prety easily
robohgedhang, would be interested to know how what you get for calculating super Pi with your new Merom. -
How do you resize them? Or can one download straight at 1280 x 768 for
W3J? I tried to resize myself, but looks like crap... -
The W3V has been phased out for quite some time. The replacement, the W3J, has a 5,400 RPM drive.
~ Brett -
Hi Aaron, here's what you (maybe) want to know: 53s (2 M).. It's from the second try though.... the first time I run Super Pi with my new Merom, I got 54s (2 M).
-
I miss my W3J
-
Buy another one?
-
I think I just might have to. I only had a few minor issues but overall I liked it.
-
If its anything like the W3J (which it is) it is very easy.
Why what happened? get stolen, droped, ran over, dog ate it, gave it away to a homeless person?
Quite easily, I use photoshop, create a blank sheet at 1280x768 ppi and drop in the image, and free transform untill it fits, at least this way I can keep the proportions the same and I normally run a unsharp mask on it, free transforming in photoshop can degarde the image quality, so you only want to do it once.
Dude that is sweeet! my current W3J will do 2M in 1:16 with a 1.83ghz, and a 160GB Seagate 5400.3 HDD.
That is great news, I will be upgrading mine as soon as my warantee expires in June, and Seagate are making a 160GB 7200rmp drive, to be released early next year, with both of these I think I purchased this laptop at the perfect time, how is your battery and temps?
-
So you think my W3J's super Pi score is sweet? I am really relieved now...
As you can see in my sig, I also use the 160GB Seagate 5400.3 HDD, with 2GB of Kingston 667 MHz RAM though...
About temps, I am using Asus NB Probe now, @ High Performance setting, just for browsing, a bit Excel-ing and Word-ing, it shows 54 deg Celsius. What do you think?
About battery, what benchmark do you suggest me to use? -
yes that super pi score is very fast for a laptop.
For the temp thats about average mine cycles between 51-58 deg up to 65+ when runing games so yours is normal.
In terms of battery, I was just wondering if you noticed a drop in battery life at all? mine runs anywhere between 2:45-3hrs on battery save mode.
Where did you buy your processor?
-
Hey, thanks for your explanation, I really learn a lot here... OK I'll examine the battery life after this... Now I'm running on AC.
I bought the Merom from www.skycomp.com.au, it's an Australian online shop. I chose Australian online shop because I have to buy it via my friend in Brisbane, whose wife was going to come to Jakarta (no online shop ships processor directly to Indo) so she could bring the CPU. -
Fall to your knees and tremble! The W3j owner's lounge is now the most viewed and replied to thread in the Asus forums!
Thanks to everyone for their input! I may not have commented on this thread very often but i've been watching from the background.
May this awesome resource continue to grow and be beneficial to all W3j owners!
Keep it up!

Yeah it's now past the 100 page mark... congrats, Brigand!
-
Another W3J user joining the thread, I'll be 100% happy with the product once i can solve the looping problem.
-
Hey... disable powerplay, not uninstall power4gear...
-
Haha, yap. Thanks for your help!
-
hey... I can't make sense of this...
Which is faster the
Core 2 Duo 1.66 ghz
or the
Core Duo 2.00 ghz
The Core Duo right? But why is the Core 2 Duo more expensive?!?!?! Why didn't they put in a Core 2 Duo in the latest one?!?! WHY?!?!?!?!? -
MilestonePC.com Company Representative
The C2D 1.66 is extremely close to the Core Duo 2.0Ghz in performance, i really doubt you will notice the difference in speed.
The W3JP comes witha Core 2 Duo 1.66ghz, the only reason why Core 2 duo is more expensive than Core duo is because it is newer technology, and also Intel charges more for their CPUs compared to AMD. -
has any of you experienced problem with your w3j firewire port? I owned the refresh w T2500 core. Recently, I plugged a AMS Venus HD enclosure thru firewire. The touchpad completely flipped out. The mouse pointer would jerk around when I move my finger across the touchpad. ie. the pointer would move 1 pixel to the right if I move my finger across the ENTIRE touchpad to the right. I tried using an external mouse to override the touchpad but as soon as the firewire is plugged in, I lose control of the external mouse.
-
Hmm, it didn't happen to my set. I plugged in my friend's firewire video cam, converted the video and touchpad and external mouse was working fine.
-
I've read of some other people having this problem as well. To solve the problem, my suggestion would be to update the BIOS and worst-case scenario reformat the computer.
