Yeah. The m1330 that was reviewed in NBR got a 3,079 score in 3DMark05. My W3J gets 4,000 plus if I'm not mistaken.

I had a busy week at work, its going in tomorrow morning :D

Although, I must say being to upgrade the processor without needing a new chipset deffinately extends the life of the W3J, it was a good time to buy.

Asus would have to produce a serously good W3J replacement before I upgrade.

Any of you guys bought Corsair's 2 GB module (DDR2, SODIMM, 200 pin, PC-5300)? What's your opinion? It finally comes to my country, and I'm drooling already. However, I have only used Kingston's modules so far...

The bad news is that the local Corsair vendors here run out of 2 GB SODIMM sticks (is that the right term to use? I mean they don't have the 2 GB sticks anymore atm). I have to wait (and you have to wait too) until the next shipment arrives... i.e. this coming Friday if everything goes as planned. :(

    What are you going for:

    2gb - 1X2GB,
    3gb - 1X1GB+1X2GB
    4gb - 2X2GB

I think I'm going to try the second option first (3gb, 1x1gb + 1x2gb). Or maybe I'm going all the way to 4 gb and also try Vista 64, because I'm really curious about this.

Hey - anybody played any soft synths via a midi controller out the SPDIF on the w3j? What kind of latency were you getting?

No mention of midi in this whole thread - geez what a bunch of gamers! :)

Now that I think of it, just one question: the W3J comes with a bag and a mouse, are they fairly good quality? Or should I buy a more substantial case//mouse.

    Thanks in advance.

If its the rebranded logitech BT version (I think this is what comes with that particular w3j), then its a great mouse. I have had that mouse for a year now and I love it. It's a tad bit smaller than a regular mouse but that is part of the appeal for me. It is also a bit heavier and gives a more substantial feel. There is zero lag with this mouse, even playing fps games. It does fall asleep if not used for 10 seconds or so but a quick drag and its fine. I have zero complaints about this mouse.

As for the case, I don't know much about it but I'm sure there has been a review on it somewhere on this site. If I were you I would get a substantial laptop sleeve (I have almost a hardcover sleeve) and then just throw that in your regular bag. I find that to protect my w3j perfectly.
    cheers,
    Dan

The mouse is essentially a re-branded Logitech V270 which is a pretty nice model. The case is actually a messenger style carrying bag and is a grayish color and a flap with two buckles to keep it closed. Personally, I have no problem with it, but others have voiced their distaste, so you may want to consider getting a new bag. You can sorta catch a glimpse of what the bag looks like in one of the pictures here.

The really bad thing about the messenger bag is when it's raining your laptop is likely to get soaked x_x
Apart from the fact that it might hurt people's shoulders to carry it around, but it mostly depends on the person.

The mouse is simple bluetooth mouse, it does it's job.
The case is not that good quality and it only pretty much fits your laptop and a writing notebook. I bought myself one of these for books and laptop http://oakley.com/pd/4581

I just got a used W3J. It feels pretty good. It's not as nice as the W2V that I sold to my brother. The carrying case looks horrible. Luckily the notebook came with a backpack as well. Now I need to look for a nice looking case and probably a sleeve.

EDIT: Will the Shinza fit this notebook?

Are there any drivers you can update on this machine besides the video ones and windows. I'm having trouble using ventrilo with the onboard mic now, was wondering if I could change the sound drivers.

Before doing anything, go to Start -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Sound Recorder and try to record yourself. If that doesn't work then we can work from there to see where the issue lies.

I picked up a lg 226WA and the color is a bit differnet too, but in my case, it is better. THis monitor has a higher contrast ratio and better brightness, giving a better result. I find my laptop looks dull in comparison. If the color feels off, try changing the profile built into the laptop with the third hot key down on the right side.

if that isnt enough, look for a custom color profile on the internet, or experiment yourself

Its not the same as well for me. I have it hooked up to a Dell 2407, and there are several things to note:

    - Colours are brighter
    - Colours are vibrant
    - There are more colours
    - Repsonse is better

But then that is expected for a true 8bit panel.

There is a difference, such as startup times, and having applications like Office load in no time. I miss the 7200 in my W3J, but have moved on to a new notebbook with better battery life and weight, but a slower 5400 HDD.

    Hi Guys,

What is the most recent reliable video drivers (and where do I find them) for the W3J that everyone is using. I am still using the stock standard drivers that came with the computer and up until now they have worked just fine and "if it ain't broke then why fix it"...but. I have just bought Ghost Recon AW2 and I am having a few video problems so decided that now might be a good time to update. But reliability is an issue because I also use the computer for work and so want reliability as well.

Hey everyone, i just bought a used W3J and decided to jump in here. I had a couple questions about parts. The touchpad is scratched up and I was interested in changing it out, but I can't find a place that sells them. Anybody know where I could look? Also, the battery drains quickly and I would like to get a replacement, but again I can't find any for sale. If anyone can help out I'd really appreciate it. Thanks :)

$10 bucks ain't too sabby for the trackpad, battery is $100 tho! ;)

I recently ordered a replacement LCD cover and bezel as the bezel was cracking around the right hindge. Good as new now!

Also make sure you have your ATI powerplay enabled, this geratly improves battry performance, I can still squeeze 3hrs out of mine with a new 2.33ghs processor.

Thanks for the links Jowie. I checked part of Asus website but not that part. :D

I don't have the laptop with me right now, but is ATI powerplay already on the machine or do I have to DL from ATI? I only browsed the catalyst thingy and didn't take notice of powerplay.

When you damage it yourself it's not covered by warranty....... :(

but if it's the part i'll do it myself, Like to have my laptop nice and fresh and I might use the old one for a mod project. ;)
