Here's our little thread, guys.![]()
After the debacle that was the BTOTech preorder, I just went with MilestonePC. Placed the order about 10 minutes ago. Let's talk!
-
-
Looks like I'm going to be an owner of a V2S-A1, excitement ensues.
Just preordered mine from MilestonePC 5 minutes ago.
Canceled due to delays.
-

have the admin post this in the main asus sticky as an owners lounge thread.
Also, when I get it, what programs should I uninstall. This is my first time with Asus and I dont' know which programs are useless and which ones could actually help me. gonna be picking it up so I should have it on the 23rd which is milestone's ETA. -
Does the V2S come with 2 batteries (6cell +9cell) or one 6cell?
-
It will be just the 6 Cell.
-
Yeah I totally forgot to let coriolis know about this.
I'm going to go by the G1S bloatware thread as far as removing useless stuff. My friend got a G1S and it had like 60-something processes at startup. That needs some serious cleaning. -
pre-ordered mine 3 weeks ago lol. hopefully i'll be one of the first in line for shipping
-
Just want to get mine before I leave for college, which is Sept 1st. I'll probably get it before then, right? I pre-ordered from Milestone a few days ago and I remember him saying he shouldn't have a problem with stock.
I'm also wondering what programs I should get rid of ^^;; -
ilikeicehockey Notebook Evangelist
thanks, i'll check that thread out -
I've got one..
in my hands...
in my dreams...
preordered from a great reseller for a very good deal, with a load of freebies. -
Someone posted the Milestone is only getting 20 units in at launch? Milestone didn't refute that info, which concerns me a bit. I really want to get mine by the end of next week.
-
MilestonePC.com Company Representative
He meant we have 20 units in Canada with free docking station given.
Also, because of the Typhoon in China, the shipment to USA will delay about on week. Originally it was scheduled to reach USA around 16th. -
ilikeicehockey Notebook Evangelist
does that include Canada being delayed as well? What would be the ETA -
Damn, that means we're gonna cut it close to the end of August here.
-
That could be cutting it really close for me. I leave on vacation for half a week on the 1st of Sept. Was really hoping to bring my new laptop along.
-
Ah, thanks for the clarification!
-
I'm curious as to what this laptop is going to benchmark in 3Dmark06~
-
I'm going to refer to the F3SV's scores, because it uses the same GPU.
Stock clocks, 1GB RAM = 2032
Slight overclock, 2GB RAM = 2879
You could easily break 3000 with some moderate overclocking, putting it into the 3DMark range of a GDDR2 8600GT. This is of course a purely synthetic benchmark, but I think that it should translate to real-world gaming as well. -
Wait, delays PAST the 20th? Or is Aug 20th the ETA factoring in the typhoon already?
-
LOL. Well, it appears that someone or something doesn't want us to have the V2s.
-
Come on, F3Sv has GDDR3(there are doubts about that - there is supposedly no 8600 gs DDR2 but it is known that rivatuner reports the memory types wrong so let's go by the clocks) clocked at DDR2 400 mhz... So I really hope that V2s gets normal GDDR3 - and that means that
stock clocks(at 500/700) = 2773
nvidia recommended clocks for 8600 gs (@ 600/700) = 3160
stable OC(650/750) = 3392
Cause if V2s really gets crap DDR2(even they call it GDDR3 - only the clocks really matter) memory, I'll be really disappointed...
For comparison - 8600GT with DDR2(V1s,VX2s) marks are
stock clocks(@475/400) = 2939
stable OC(@600/480) = 3643
So, basically(even if synthetics aren't that trustworthy) - 8600gs GDDR3 ~ 8600gt DDR2 - that taking into account that for 14" laptops the resolution is lower so the difference is more pronounced(8600gt is mostly in 15" laptops)
P.S. 8600gs - 2gb ram benchmarks, not xp - so in xp it's even higher
Taken from this thread - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=131334 -
Yes the 8600GS is 100% guaranteed GDDR3. I wasn't aware that they've severely downclocked it in the F3SV, but since it's GDDR3 capable of 700MHz you should be able to clock it back up. I'll probably include overclocking in my review.
-
no, you can't overclock it back up - it doesn't go up more than 550-600 on F3sv - that's why some people think it's not really GDDR3...
And, anyway, it's not really the point if you can overclock it back or not - it's the point of it being already very underperforming - you won't be able those nice 3700 in 3dmark06. That's why I really, really hope it will be normal GDDR3. The F3sv 8600Gs is on the level of 8400gt - and you can get a smaller laptop for that... -
ilikeicehockey Notebook Evangelist
when are you making your review bona fide?
-
Does anyone know if the 3.5G wireless internet feature is build in to the V2S or if it's an optional add on?
-
ilikeicehockey Notebook Evangelist
optional. If you look at the specs, it says optional and I think a reseller told me that too, although i can't remeber who it was. -
I'll be starting as soon as I receive it, so it should be finished within a few days of it arriving.
-
minxshin got his to 750 stable...i don't understand what you're talking about.
Specs as per nVidia's site:
Core: 600MHz
Memory: 700MHz
minxshin was able to get that, plus more -
that's because he wasn't using a F3sv, but a model from toshiba i think.
man i want to be a part of this group.
maybe i will be since lenovo refuses to update me on my laptop. -
Well, Ken from GentechPC did some benchmarks with the F3SV, and he was able to overclock its GPU to 729/601. If I had to guess, I'd say scaling back the core to 600 would allow you to boost the memory up to 700.
-
most likely. the 8600GS is a darn good card for those 14" notebooks.
amazing how lenovo got the quadro fx 570 in their 14" notebook though...why couldn't asus do the same? haha -
the f8sv has an 8600gt, which is the quadro's gaming equivalent
-
F8Sv - 256mb 8600GT GDDR 2
T61p - 126mb Quadro FX570m GDDR 3
i think the F8Sv will perform better though since it has more memory. -
I don't get it, why are asus advertising the 3.5G wireless network as it would be something special then? What really does optional mean? Like, buy your own 3g data card and it will work...?
-
That's what I meant by normal GDDR3.
Minxshin - Samsung R70, normal GDDR3 - stock memory 700 - OC to 750!!!
The marks I was quoting were taken from his thread...
F3sv - crap GDDR3/DDR2 - stock memory 400 - OC to 600
The F3sv stock is 400 - it is overclockable to 600. And no, scaling back to 600 doesn't allow you to boost the memory up to 700. If you've read the minxshin thread he also says:
My friend has an Asus f3sv and his came clocked at 500/400 !! and when he tried to OC it to 600/600, his computer crashed. So.. Please check your clock speeds when you purchase the computer! Or ask the manufacturer Rep the exact clock speeds before you purchase the computer!
Do you understand what I mean by normal GDDR3 now? -
No, 256mb GDDR3 gets about 800 more 3dmarks stock than 512mb DDR2, so unless you use very big resolutions GDDR3 will still own DDR2 - I remember reading about 128/256 in someone's thread about DDR2/GDDR3 too. But it's still my guess. Might not be the case with T61p - as it is a somewhat different video card
-
Please, can you confirm stock memory clock here before the review as soon as you receive V2s?
-
Now I'm a little nervous about this. The thought of canceling this and going with something else is starting to creep up on me.
I'll be sure to post up stock clocks if/when I get it. -
FINALLY~ I just ordered the V2S-A1. SWEEEEEEt
I'm using it more for business/law school rather than gaming. Although I need it to play SC2 later so the GPU clocked at the stock clock would be fine for my application. Although, I did purchase this comp because the GPU was clockable to the likes of the 8600T (for future gaming ability). -
I'm sure I'll get one with 3GB of ram.
I just pre order mine before 4 hours and i will to write a review and benchmark with 2 GB first then add the 3GB and test again.
So what do you need guys to test because that's the first time for me to write a review in English.
I have downloaded :
FEAR Demo
NFS Carbon Demo
BF 2 Demo
and everything in this http://www.notebookreview.com/writeReview/ .
If you guys want me to test anything let me know but please i don't will to test the spill proof keyboard.
-
Sorry, do you have it already?
-
"I just pre order mine before 4 hours and i will to write a review and benchmark with 2 GB first then add"
If you have read this you'll know that i pre order so that mean i'm waiting for it to be released maybe after tow weeks. -
A DX10 game would be nice.
http://us.download.nvidia.com/downloads/nZone/demos/nzd_lpdemo.zip
That's the Lost Planet DX10 demo. Give it a shot
-
I placed my preorder yesterday, went with GenTechPC, hope things work out well
It will be interesting to compare delivery dates hehe, delivery time is really important to me, I need to get this laptop as soon as possible.
As for benchmarks, I'll probably try it out with Bioshock, can't really ask for a more demanding game out there. Hope to see some user reviews soon! I'm considering writing one as well, time permitting. -
For everyone who has pre-ordered, why did you choose the V2S over the coming F8SV-A1?
-
I'll download this.
Because the better build quality, less weight and more battery life.
IMO better looking.
-
Q8PHANTOM basically summed up why for me as well. Not to mention the F8 won't be out for at least a month after the V2S, and I need a machine now. I'm willing to pay more for better build quality, combined with a lower weight and better battery life. I expect to be traveling with this quite often so I need something that will last me. My other option probably would have been a Thinkpad T61 or T61p.
-
Well I was waiting for the F8 but it kept getting delayed and I'm going to college soon...Also, I was really worried about the battery life and heat issues of the F8 since its a new machine and we really know nothing about it. That combined with the better build quality and weight of the V2S made me finally switch over. Hope the vid card is fine though (please be DDR3!!).
-
Lenovo wouldn't have been the choice to go as they're having massive delays on the T61 series.
-
Hi all, new here. Pre-ordered my V2S-A1 from GenTech, hoping there won't be further delays due to the typhoon. I originally pre-ordered an XPS M1330, but Dell pushed my ETA back for two months until I just about had it with them. For about an extra pound the V2S seems to have many features superior to the M1330, so the V2S was a no-brainer for me, since I couldn't wait for the U3 due to classes starting very soon (on top of lab work).
My main concern with the V2S is the battery life...I'm hoping it can push past 3 hours on its main battery.
