I joined just to share this with you guys, since this forum has been so helpful in determining which laptop to buy.

Using Live.com search through ebay.com ((all over fatwallet, slickdeals, and other deal sites) , I was able to save $200 on a new N80VN. Excalibur PC has an ebay store, so you still get the great warranty and service.

Check out this link for step by step instructions on how to save $200.

edit: apparently I can't post URLs until I have 15 posts... just go to fatwallet and search for Live.com

    My total for ASUS N80Vn-GP011C 14.1" 2.4GHz/4GB/320GB/DVD±RW Laptop was $1,159 - $200 = $959.

I will write up a review with benchmarks once I receive the laptop.

I don't know if I'm blind or anything, but I can't find the place to save $200 off the laptop :(. I'm deciding between the new 2.4ghz macbook and this model and price wise this thing smokes it so I'm thinking about jumping on it. Thanks for the help in advance!

Any idea if this stacks with the $150 mail in rebate for the F8VA?

To get the $200 discount read the slickdeals thread:
    http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=952519

If you are too lazy here is a quick recap (I suggest reading the slickdeals as they provide pictures of how everything should look like)
-Go to Live.com (I would suggest setting up your windows live ID right now but I think you can do it later at the end)
    -Type in ASUS Laptops
-You will see a top sign with 25% Cashback on ebay
-Click on that and you will be redirected to ebay (There will ALWAYS be a 25% cashback sign on top of the ebay page. If ther isn't you are not getting the cashback)
-You can search for anything and buy anything on ebay to get 25% as long as it is Buy it now (max cashback $200)
-Click buy it now and there will be a summary page with the cashback amount stated clearly (if you don't get that page you are not getting the cashback)
-Go through the buying process and you must pay with PayPal
-After you are done buying wait a few minutes and check your ebay message inbox. There will be a cashback message from ebay.
-Click on it and you will be redirected to the live.com website where you can sign into your account.
-Once that is done wait. There would be no update on the live cashback page. They say it usually takes 24 hours (I'm still waiting for mine).
-Once that is updated you have to wait for 60 days before you can transfer the cashback into you paypal account.

That's it I guess. An amazing deal but the 2 months wait time is how the cashback usually works.

    =)

    Enjoy.

Thanks for posting the URL :)

I would think any mail-in-rebates would still apply, since this is cash back directly from Microsoft and has nothing to do with ASUS, but remember to buy from an authorized reseller. Since Excaliber PC has an ebay store go check out their inventory

stores dot ebay dot com slash EXPCeStore
    (still can't post URLs.. :()

    Snapple37 / ExcaliberPC,
I''m thinking to get a 14" laptop for my wife. This one looks very good.
Do you know if the Card reader can read an SDHC card bigger than 4GB?

Also can we upgrade the DVD to BluRay?

    Thanks,

If the card reader supports SDHC, I don't see why it should be limited to 4GB.

Even my 2+year old V6J's card reader reads 8GB cards just fine (as long as you know what driver to use... the default one does not support SDHC).

I guess you can also upgrade to BluRay, but wait for a confirmation on that, I am not sure.

The card reader can read SDHC cards. As for Blu-Ray, we will have to check w/ ASUS to see if they plan to release N80 with Blu-Ray. In general, ASUS does not like to include Blu-Ray option with 14.1" and smaller.

The 1280x800 resolution screen can't handle 1080p material anyway, unless you were planning on using it as a player for your TV through HDMI. Might be cheaper and better to just get a home Blu-ray player for that purpose though.

I got excited for a second... then found out they didn't have the ASUS laptop listed I have been looking at. If they started carrying MSI i'd be sold, on the spot! Now if only XoticPC or PowerNotebooks would follow suit..

It's still working for me. I went to live.com and typed in "ASUS laptops"
Remember the 's' at the end of the laptop or else it won't come up.

Try different searches. I usually type in "cheap wii".

And the cashback amount isn't always 25%. It can change.

I got 200 off an Asus N80vn, and $60 off an Olympus digicam, simply by searching through the live.com. Sometimes you have to simplify your search term to get the cashback banner ad to show. Also, to be clear for people having trouble, start the search at live.com and then the sponsored link with the 25% off graphic will take you to ebay, where there should be a small graphic at the very top of the ebay page displaying the live.com cashback discount percent. From there, you can search for and buy anything with "Buy It Now" and paypal. I've heard you can use this up to 12 times.

I think now I know the problem,

use Internet Explorer instead of other browsers (mine is Firefox) before you type live.com.

I tried to search the same thing using Firefox and it never showed the ebay deals with cashback.
Once I changed into IE, the ebay link shows up.

    Hope this helps,

Actually, I'm a Firefox user and didn't have a problem getting the Live.com cashback to show up. Just my $.02. If anything, it might be an issue of cookies and pop-up blocking that prevents it in Firefox for some people, because of various add-on's/extensions.

    Well,

I didn't change any setting at my Firefox and yesterday when I tried it again, somehow it shows the ebay cashback again.
    Thanks anyway for the advices.

So, no review for the Asus N80Nv yet?

I was wondering how long the battery will last using the dedicated graphic card.

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the info!!!!

I was real close to getting an Alienware M17...but...

I signed up for a live account, and went to Ebay. To my surprise, PayPal gave me an additional $100 off "coupon".

I just purchased the Asus g50VT-a1 from btotech (their Ebay store) for $1299 (including tax/shipping)!!! Incredible deal!!!!

    Thanks everyone!!!!

    Ok

    $1,169 - $200 = $969.

I want to sell this brand new unopened laptop which I havent even received for $1100(negotiable), I will take the 60 days risk, and the buyer will get it cheaper instantly. If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Yes. If you don't see your cashback amount before you pay on paypal or even before you commit to buy the item then the item is not qualified.

Man I love this forum. When I bought my old Dell I got a $200 off coupon for the Inspiron and now I get $200 off my new Asus. I just put in the order to BTO Tech and already got a call from their sales department. They have perfect feedback and seem like a great company. Free shipping and only $1399 for the G50vt-A1 after the cash back!

Yeah basically you click the link and buy something and then you get a message in your Ebay message box that says you've received cash back. You can't get the $200 for 60 days because they want to make sure you don't buy stuff and then return it and pocket the $200. Still, I got the email from Microsoft and Ebay so I'm thinking I should get the $200 in 60 days. They just deposit it straight into your paypal when the time comes.

i really dont get what possible reason does microsoft have to do this? So we all know they are trying to buy a search engine and are scared google may one day compete with their operating system. This is not a means to do so. This promo has been going on for many months now. I just dont get it. I am not complaining. I know we have alot of customers who took them up on this promo.
