    Hi all.

I've tried this guide and it's doing my head in. It has nothing to do with the guide, because it's well-written and understandable.

But I've experienced a particular problem that I haven't read about. I've converted the iSSD drive to MBR, and then restarted my computer and booted from a USB-stick. But when I'm inside the Windows installation and select the iSSD drive to install Windows on, I get the following error message:

"Windows is unable to install to the selected location. Error: 0x80300024"

Now I hate all the bloatware that's installed by Asus on this notebook, so I'm really frustrated with all this. There isn't even a possibility to do a clean install of Windows on my HDD, because it's a GPT-partition style, so I can't just format this drive as Windows is installed on it. (and I guess you always have to delete the volumes to convert to MBR)

    Anyone can help?

    Hello mate,

I have the same problem! I did a clean install of Win 7 Home Premium on UX32VD, 32 GB SSD. Everything works fine EXCEPT:

Blank screen upon start-up, resume from standby or hibernate. All fans, leds, cpu working. Backlight is on, but no video signal.
    What I found out:
    - it is a video card issue! Intel HD 4000
    - does not happen every time, maybe 20-30% of resumes
    - only way NOT TO GET A BLANK SCREEN is: uninstall video card => restart => Win-7 detects a Standard VGA adapter. With this native support I get NO BLANK SCREEN. Of course, I also lose functionality - no sleep, less hotkeys, no ext.display, etc.
    - uninstalled HD4000 and tried with newest Intel drivers V9.17.10.xx, also with older - V8.15.10.2696.02. No success.
    - you do not need to restart for recovery! Way out of blank screen is to go to sleep again (fn-f1) and resume OR press fn-f7 1-2 times for screen toggle
    - it seems a common issue on Win-7 and a number of video cards (a lot of threads on inet)

    ANYONE, has a solution???

    Magnet/lid issue:
    - if I put my UX32VD in a bag, the upper lid flaps open. Magnet is not strong enough to hold the 2 lids together. Anyone has the same problem??

    Fan noise issue:
    - for me, updating the BIOS to 212 has solved the noise issue. Fans went maybe once in a week.

Boot comparison --- HDD vs. SSD:
Hitachi shutdown (original, w/ bloatware): ~20 sec.
    SSD shutdown: <10 sec.
    Hitachi Win-7 start-up: ~1 min
    SSD start-up: ~17 sec!!

didn´t find a solution either. i guess you have to change the partition style and reformat your hdd to do so.

hi guys i bought an asus ux32vd-4002x and i replace original hitachi hdd with a samsung 840 pro 256gb and i added 8gb crucial 1600 mhz ddr3 module. All seems ok. I do a fresh windows 7 professional install.

    But i have some question:

    1) I don't install any asus software. The sistem is very fast. But can you give me a little description of this software?:
    -keyboard device filter
    -asus live update
    -asus splendid video technology
    -life frame 3
    -atkacpi driver and hotkeys
    -asus usb charger plus
    -asus power on
    -asus power4gear hybrid
    -express cache

    2) i don't install asus smart gesture...and relalative atk package...I only install elantech touchpad driver.Am I wrong? Can i have problems?

3)Magnet is not strong to hold the 2 lids together

    4) After i upgrade ssd and ram....when i close the zenbook....the aluminium chassis is a bit disallineated to the screw. I must do a little pressure. And you?

    Hey All,

I just have a quick question, I just got my ux32vd the 30th Dec. But something weird is happening with my HDD.

When the laptop is idle or almost idle like installing windows updates or writing a document, the hard drive starts to make like a click-lock sound. But when for example I do more HDD intensive stuff like playing a game or compiling some code, no clicking sound at all, actually you can't even hear the HDD.

    Is this normal?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Yep I'm talking it back to the local store where I bought it since I have a 7 day warranty.

But I think I just did something stupid I installed Windows to the issd to check if the HDD would stop with the clicking.

I did a recovery image of the original system with clonezilla but now that I'm recovering it says something is wrong with the gpt table/partition and can't boot nor windows nor recovery with F9.

    What can I do?

I have a friend with the ux32vd who is still with oem, can it help or something?

    Thanks

Download win 7 with another comp as a bootable format to a pendrive and use the serial that comes with your adapter to install. Not quite sure if it is win 8 tho.

Is there a clean install guide for Windows 8 for the UX32VD?
I'm asking this because it looks like the driver installation has a specific order to it...

I have a ux32vd with 24GB iSSD. I did a fresh install on win 7, and I can't manage to make fastboot to work, because of that the OS is on my Corsair SSD. BTW win7 boot is around 20 seconds on my ssd, the default iSSD+HDD in win8 boot in about 3 to 5 seconds.. I did follow exactly the procedures here and my battery last for + ou - 4 hours (it did last around 6,5 to 7 hours on the win8). Did someone have similar situations?

Have you resolved the issue yet? I am using an intel 330 SSD, which could be the cause. I've tried updating bios and installing windows 8, but all to no avail.

I am trying with the original Hitachi HDDto see if that makes a difference and so far I have not had a single black screen, which is kinda pissing me off.

I had black screens in both cases -- with my original Hitachi installation and with the SSD clean install. I tried with all my knowledge - no success. Finally returned UX32VD for repair --> the whole LCD was replaced, which speaks that it was probably the LCD interface cable.

Hi everyone, sorry for the off topic but I don't know where else to ask about it..
I have a problem with my ux32vd.. I attempted to modify the partitions OS and DATA but by doing so I've corrupted both windows and the recovery partition (it is still there but I cannot boot it).
Someone has the recovery DVD and can upload it for me please?
    Thanks..

I don't know the 32GB version but the sequential write and "ergo" all that follows on the 24GB is say 50MB/s-80MB/s. Mine slowed down to 23MB/s sequential write can't be that great to run the OS on can it?

You guys won't believe in it. I was using the Internal iSSD as a temp driver to boost memory and cache.. Today is just died on me. Win 7 (and also the Bios) won't find or even detect it. Any clues? Any Ideas? I'm using the last bios I've got from ASUS (remember, this is a UX32VD-DH71). Tks in advance (i'm also posting this on the Asus UX 32VD Owner's Lounge)

So added restore point again with 500mb

    Dude ..
Please Check that the iSSD express boot HDD is not "that" reliable for everyday/every time use. Lots of users (including myself) face a lot of problems with that.
I strongly advise to acquire an SSD, replace the Hitachiand model and let the issd works as it suppose to work: A boot / cache ssd.
Otherwise, you may find issd issues like most of us.
    Cheers,
    Fábio

Perhaps some people have had problems, but I am now approaching one year with this solution, and I haven't had a single problem. It's been extremely stable, and the performance have been great all along.

At times, while running Chrome, Spotify, Word ++ the memory has been a problem, but that could probably be avoided by using a lighter Win 7 version than Professional. And of course, that's not related to the iSSD.

The UX32VD in general have really impressed me. As I said, I've soon had it a year, and there's nothing on the market yet that makes me want to swap it out.

    Hello everyone!

First of all thanks for this helpful guide! I've been running a dual boot of Linux Mint and Windows 7 off the SSD extremely smoothly for many months now. However, I never got around to asking this before, but I've reinstalled a fresh copy of windows twice now on this laptop and on both times I've never been able to get the webcam drive detected on both OSes. It's been detected as an unrecognized USB device, and there are no links on ASUS' website to download a webcam driver. I've long lost any ability to recover using the factory partition, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. It's not a dealbreaker for me as I have another computer that I use as my primary workstation but it would be nice to be able to video Skype on the go!

    Thanks!

Hello. I have bought UX32VD and having troubles installing Windows 7. Previously it came with Windows 8 preinstalled and has the 24GB SSD.

The problem is with making a USB with windows 7 installation. I have tried DirectGRUB, Win Setup 1.0, Microsoft Windows7 USB DVD tool, but laptop simply DOES NOT SEE the USB to choose to install from.
I have also tried Novicorp WinToFlash, now laptop recognize flash but it refuse to start and just open a bios.

    1. How to make a USB stick that laptop will recognize and allow to install windows 7 from?
    2. How to make 24Gb SSD used as a cache partition back?

UPD. Well, I have bought USB DVD, but windows installation hangs at this screen:

UPD: solved. Just remember to turn ON "Launch CSM" option and you will be able to install Windows without uEFI.

Hi guys, I just did this. I have a UX32A which I believe came with the 32GB SSD i100, I checked the size was 29.82GB so I am quite positive it is the 32GB.

Anyway, I have windows 7 ultimate (from torrent) installed successfully and I am typing from it now. I am currently downloading all the windows updates.
I have 2 questions regarding space:

    1. How do I deal with downloading & installing programs? I hear some people say they download it to HDD and install it on SSD? How exactly do I do this? Do I just choose to save it on my HDD (D drive) and let it install normally? That is what I'm currently doing.

    2. The Windows folder occupied a whopping 25GB at first. Then I removed 7GB by removing the SoftwareDistribution folder. I still have two very large folders: win32 and especially winsxs which I was told to not really remove, but it is HUGE at around 14GB I think as I checked last night (not sure, at work atm). How do I deal with a Windows folder that is ~18GB, can I remove anything, or must I leave it? Already tried most other space-saving techniques.

    Dude,

Seriously, I did this installation on the iSSD and it turn out to "kill" my iSSD.
After Asus repair it, they instruct me to no use the iSSD to install the OS and only use it as a fast boot cache option (as it was designed by asus). My choice ? I got a SSD for my Asus and I´m using the iSSD as Asus designed: fast boot cache.

    Hi
I did install a samsung 128gb ssd on my ux32 some months ago. At the same time I did format the iSSD to use it storage (and it has worked OK). Now I have changed back to the original hitachi hdd because I need more storage. I wonder if you know how to make sure that the chache-function to the iSSD works as it should? Right now I think it just works as a ordinary harddrive
    .
    Thanks in advance

I've been running Windows 7 home premium on my iSSD for 9-10 months now. Been working flawless! But lately I've gotten bluescreen 4-5 times, with "kernel_data_inpage_error"... Am afraid that it is my iSSD that is crashing :( Anybody who can confirm this?

My iSSD didn't even last long enough to do the install, which made me leery of doing it once I got my computer back. My plan is to wait until SSDs are cheaper and then switch out the entire hard drive.

Summary: as far as I know I was the first one experimenting with installing Windows straight on the the iSSD, this is how we found each other with Dunces, the starter of this thread. My UX32VD's iSSD started to give BSOD-s instead of booting, more and more often. Actually it was a laptop rarely used, so we could say the problems appeared rather fast, even if it took a year. At this point I also (like many others here) replaced the factory HDD with an SSD, and gave no use to the iSSD. The HDD is put in an external USB3 case, giving lots of extra storage. Reading all the other owner's experiences here, I can call this project completed, with the results summarized like this: the iSSD does not have enough endurance to be trusted with data that is not backed up, and even just for an Operating System it is not reliable enough long-term.

Did you ever find a way to prevent start-up from seeking the dead iSSD? Slow start-up times and wake from sleep seem to be caused by this, which is much more annoying than the loss of the 32/24 GB iSSD itself.

Also, how do you disable the on-screen display when using the FN keys?

    Hi,

Thank you for this great guide. Unfortunately, I can't even get to step one. When I go to Windows disk manager, I don't see the SSD. I know my laptop is a UX32VD because I've verified the serial number on the back with the ASUS website. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    All the best

    Hi,
Thank you for your insight. My ux32vd is taking a long time to get to the Windows startup and my Windows disk manager does not show the iSSD. Is it possible that the iSSD is completely dead? Do you have any insight as to why is takes so long for Windows to start. I've also done the SSD and RAM upgrade. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Best regards
