You don't have this problem with crashes anymore, do you?
I have the same problem as yours. I'd like to know, if the enginer has changed your ram or just updated bios?

hi guys i just bought the N61JQ-jx014V(640GB,blu-ray)
i wanna ask..would you recommend me to update my bios to 210(does it gonna give a faster and better system?) and update my catalyst to 10.7 without having any VSOD and etc.?.and how im a prevent having BSOD's..tnx!! -
My CPU temps would also reach the 90C at the highest...the best way I found to lower those during gaming is to use Power4Gear and lower the maximum processor state to 50%.

Been having a similar problem, which happens at weird times.
When I'm surfing the web and playing music and surfing the web at the same time (usually my PC is on for about an hour or so), the computers graphics will go awry. I would like to call the phenomena, the 'Virtual Boxes of Death', going straight to the heart of the problem. The Windows OS (7) freezes, everything goes away except for the mouse which I can still move to all 4 corners of the screen. The mouse displays on top of these 'flashing boxes' which randomly appear on different parts of the screen (looks like you are looking at the matrix). Then the screen shuts off and if there is any sound coming out of the speakers, it starts stuttering uncontrollably. Then after a minute, the PC finally comes to a shutdown. However, when I turn it back on it works fine, coming straight on without the presumption that an error has occurred.
The PC feels pretty hot near the vent at the point when I turn it off. I want to try to remedy the situation by getting a laptop cooler. I am going to test this out and get back to you all on the problem. I'll also see if I can take a picture of the problem when it occurs.
This usually only happens when the Windows power settings are in 'High performance mode' and Intel TurboBoost is enabled.
Also, the fan seems to be operating rather slowly when in this mode. Tried changing the system temperature policy to be operated by the BIOS with no change.
I tried taking out the battery in just running the PC in AC Mode. It worked fine for around a week and a half where there were no problems with the laptop whatsoever. Then suddenly, in AC Mode with no battery, I started getting the same problems.
I have the N61JQ-X2... had it since the end of June I think (I'll have to dig out the receipt). I assume I'm still in warranty (so I'll call up ASUS support, and I may have to send this thing in for repair if all else fails).
Other than the unexpected shut downs, I love this laptop quite a bit, and if you don't mind dealing with quirks, it's a good piece of equipment. -
OK, it shutdown once today, and almost did it again.
Forgot to mention... BIOS is version 212 I think, the latest version I got from the ASUS website.
GPU just before it shut down was running at a constant temperature of 68.5 degrees.
The CPU high was at 83 degrees and it's still running up quite high temperatures, but it just went down to around 65, where it should probably normally be.
I have iTunes open and it was running some operations there.
Strange I never get this problem when playing Crysis or high intensity game on this PC. I've played Battlefield Bad Company 2 on it, and running with high temperatures, the PC managed to stay on, even when putting my hand in front of the grill almost burnt it off.
I wonder if it is a power or power adapter issue? Could be a motherboard issue as well. I'm far from home right now, so I'm going to get the receipt sent to me so I can take advantage of the ASUS warranty. I'd hate having to backup all my stuff before I send my PC to them, if I plan to at all. -
It's still shutting down. Shut down right after I turned it on this morning.
A bunch of programs come up at start up, then I started to get the 'boxes' on the screen again. I think it's an overheating issue. The fan isn't getting to the speed that it needs to be at... probably could be some kind of sensor issue or new BIOS issue (actually, this isn't completely correct since the issue happened on BIOS 208 as well, and under the same conditions, jsut less often). I have no idea... trying to get my original purchase receipt so that I can get the thing shipped off. Will have to buy a netbook in between most likely so I can continue working and not have to use someone else's computer to do stuff with.
Ok, I think I have the problem down to overheating, as the processor temps were way above normal with almost no increased fan activity. After that the thing just shut down. Any way to optimize the fan speed in the BIOS? -
Fixed by installing ASUS' new graphics driver.
The driver currently running is actually the wrong driver for the graphics chipset one model above my laptop, but so far, everything is running great.
The driver actually feels a bit performance robbing until several minutes after booting up, then it really goes... noticeable difference in performance from the old driver. -
But, **in frustration**, thank you ASUS for poor software bundles that screw up the fabulous hardware you make.
At best, the first thing I should have done with this PC was a fresh install. It took Chrome 5-8 seconds to load on the ASUS default setup, where as installing fresh, chrome loads in less than a second (right as I click).
After 2 months of suffering, problem solved!
The real question is what the true state of the internal hardware is. The Longevity must have gone down significantly b/c of the software problem. Oh well, I'll just run this until it fails, but I doubt it will for a long time... 3 years at most I expect this to last. Maybe 2...
