Guyss..
I bought my G1s A1 last year (August).
Recently, my laptop start to shut down suddenly while i am still using it. So I have to press power again to turn it on again.
It happens quite often.
I do not have any clue what happens. Could someone please help me with this problem?
Many thanks.

Might be heat or OS problem. you can moniter your CPU temp for overheating problem.
-
could this be cuz of a bad gpu?
-
Thank you very much -
You can try monitor your CPU temperature using SpeedFan or Everest or other temperature utilities.
While monitoring that, run utilities such as Super PI (4M/8M calculation. For longer time, U can use 16M ur even 32M) to fully test your CPU. CPU-Z will let u know multiplier and core speed your CPU is running during the calculation process.
I don't thing it's a GPU problem else the symptoms are stuttering / artifacts / blackout screen.
Hope that your problem is not related to non validate OS / a Scheduler or virus. -
Download HWMonitor, and leave it open during your computer use, run your daily programs and monitor the temps every 1-5 minutes, watch the "Max" column, and tell us what the temps are.
At idle, my G1S is about 65 THRM, 65-70 CPU, 60-75 GPU, 45-50 HDD (Celcius that is) -
This issue is most likely your GPU overheating (very common on the G1S due to the infamous defective nvidia video cards, especially the 8600M GT).
Here's a concise list of what you should do
1. Clean your fan and heat grill
2. Use RivaTuner to monitor your temperature while gaming and/or running 3dmark06.
3. If temps are above 95+ C, call Asus tech support for an RMA. They will most likely replace your mobo and GPU to a G1Sn. -
There is a good chance this is an overheating problem. I would suggest you monitor your CPU and GPU temperatures, you can do that using Everest (both CPU and GPU, I believe), or RMClock (for CPU) and GPU-Z (for GPU).
If it is overheating, have a look at the cleaning guide in the Info Booth (the first on the Maintenance list). Have a look at the G1S disassembly manual as well, since that cleaning guide may not be suitable for your particular machine. In fact, if you never cleaned out the dust from your computer, I would suggest do this regardless of whether your issues are caused by overheating or not.
If you're still under warranty, make sure not to remove any Warranty Void seals (those will be on the heatsink(s)). If you can't get to the radiator without doing this, I suggest you use instead compressed air and cotton swabs. -
I will try to monitor the temperature with HW Monitor. Yesterday, I checked the temperature using Ntune. It was very hot. It is above 90 C (around 95-100 C).
Using HW monitor, my temp :
TMRM 74
CPU 73
GPU 85
HDD 50
Is it OK ?
I will try to clean the fan first.
I just forget, actually, how long is the warranty from ASUS. Is it to two years?
Thanks in advance -
Two years indeed.
As bad as it sounds those temps may not be so bad for the G1S... it gets quite hot especially in the GPU department. Especially if the computer was pushed when it was getting those temps (i.e., not idle). You would need an experienced G1S owner to confirm this assessment, though, I'm just guessing.
However, if it shuts down, do try to clean the fan. Note that the worst dust buildup is however usually in the radiator (via which the fan blows the air outside). If your warranty is up or you can get to it without removing the heatsink, I strongly suggest you clean that, as well. Otherwise, use compressed air. -
Could this perhaps be a battery problem? Have you tried to run the laptop without the battery in the laptop (yes you still need the AC plugged in)
If so then perhaps head into the BIOS and run a battery calibration. When , not if you clean the heat sink, blow the dust/air from the inside out and not the other way around
