Hey guys. Recently I ditched ASUS's GT 630M driver and went for a modded 3rd party driver.
Basically the 630M is a rebranded 540M but is an OEM card (I didn't knew this when I was buying the laptop). But, nVIDIA only has the Linux and Solaris driver.
I have Win7 UL 64B, that's the problem.
Laptop specs
N43SM
i5 2450 @2.9GHz 24/7 (Throttlestop, BD PROCHOT DISABLED)
4GB D3-1333 single (8GB D3-1600 duo removed, trying at stock specs)
GT 630 2GB D3
750G 5.4K. 500GB hybrid removed, stock specs.
14" 1366x768
USB 3
The ASUS drivers DID work, but creates clock accuracy problems when using either Afterburner or nVIDIA inspector.
This is the OC result with old ASUS drivers.
Core: 797MHz (wouldn't go to 800 and would jump to 810 when set higher than 807, and it would crash regardless if temp is below 90)
Mem: 1070 (wouln't go to 1075, max is 1070)
Shader: 1594
MW3: Lag
Crysis/2033/BF3/Skyrim/Vantage/3DMark11: crash after 6-10 mins.
With new driver
Core: 810, constant no throttle.
Mem: 1099 (unlocked MAX on nvinspector).
Shader: 1620
PROOF:]
MW3 Max'd out native res: 40FPS+ never lower
Crysis 2, DX11, Extreme, Highres, Blur off, 720p: 20FPS, may drop to 15 on worst case
2033, DX11 all option, High, Adv PhysX, 720p: 15FPS, 10FPS worst case.
Skyrim, Max'd out, FXAA, (except render distance all -1 points), 720P: 25FPS, drops to 20 on worst case.
Vantage: Pending
3D Mark 11: Pending
Download steps.
1. Go to laptopvideo2go.com: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/178-30x-series-geforce-driver-release/
2. Select thread with an ending "OEM cards" (choose latest ver), download the driver and modded inf
-Download driver and modded inf, put the inf in the extracted driver folder. The extracted driver folder will have another folder inside it named "display.driver", put the inf there and overwrite
3. Install guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...ve-amd-nvidia-drivers-using-clean-method.html

Has anyone else had good luck with this driver set? I have been looking for a better efficient software for my new laptop.
-
I have it installed in mine
-
I suggest you go to Utility to access to allmost all hardware
[Utility]Fans running at full speed, and more
It works on G73JH-A1, G73JW, G72, G53SW, G53JW, G53J, G51J-3D, G51JX, G51VX, C90S ...
This could help you, but you have to try as I don't know about your Asus laptop.
-
Will try, thanks
-
does not work, you may put the driver in question link.
Thank you. -
-
Will this work with the GT620m too?
Installs, but there is clock inaccuracy with MSI Afterburner or NV Inspector.
Not done overclocking, but I'm stable at 788/1575/1000 -
Yes it does, i have installed 302.24 ( v302.24 Windows 7/Vista 64bit | ASUS Mobile - 30x Series GeForce Driver release - LaptopVideo2Go Forums ) on my ux32vd and it works.
Old default driver version was 296.44. -
Maybe in the future nVIDIA will have official drivers which boost OC potential
But for now, just follow my guide -
OC'ed to 833/1665/1050 stable so far
+rep to OP -
But thanks for the rep -

The one in the Zenbook prime is the real 28nm Kepler GK117 GT 620M
Read here: NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M - Notebookcheck.net Tech -
"Its core can be based on either the 40nm GF108 chip (similar to the GeForce GT 525M) or the new power-optimized 28nm GF117 chip with 64-bit or 128-bit DDR3 memory. Both architectures still stem directly from the Fermi generation." -
Maybe you should ask nVIDIA -
Please help me guys,
Just for knowledgment, i'm not a total noob, i had at least 8 pcs before and now i get a Dell inspiron 5420,
Specs:
3rd Gen i7 3612 @2.1 ~3.1
Intel hd 4000
GT 630m > optimus (hate optimus, and i will tell us why above).
8GB DDR3 @1600 dual
1TB HD Scorpio Blue 15ms latency.
And...
I having a great problem with my video drivers, as the second screenshot shows on the first page, my GPU Clock is fixed on 660mhz.
Correct me if i am wrong, but when the gpu load increase, it would increase the clock to 800....
Anything i had tested dont fix this.... my gpu is always 660, tried many drivers including this on OP.
Tried MSI afterburner.... NV Inspector and many tools.... nothing help me
Please, im very sad with this problem.
I can tell us one thing that happen today wich makes me furious.
I had installed the beta drivers, and for about 3 minutes i played the game "Spec Ops" with gpuz monitoring tool, aand i saw the CLOCK 800 ....( when boost works this is how the frequency must keep) but... when i closed the game and restarted, the frequency keeps 660... even with gpu load @100....
My bios is currently on the last version (A03).
I dont know more what to do, i tried all things i can.
Someone have some idea to try fixing this?
I really happened with this topic, i hope someone could help me in some way.
I can't believe that, i have to edit the gpu bioS? my laptop have just 1 month of use..... i dont think there is another way to fix this.
I forgot to say, i tried format and reinstall the entire OS, Windows 7 x64 Ultimate authentic.
All windows is updated, the intel hd 4000 drivers too.
No lacking drivers to install, my machine is running very well except for this, help me please gguys. tnx -

The temperatures are fine, its not the problem.
After the entire Sunday lost searching and debugging my problem here is my solution.
1- Unninstalled and cleanned at least 2 times my entire system drivers, including audio etc.
2- downloaded each driver the last, (including the 304.79 beta driver which worked perfectly with my oem dell gt 630m
3- After get the nvidia driver installed, configured as:
1- Manage 3d settings on first tab.
2- Default videocard: Nvidia > Power > Perfomance ( on second tab)
3- Physx Default GPU Card gt 630m ( Optional)
4- Selected high perfomance perfil on power options.
5- Installed Afterburner msi, and tried a nice overclock 900/1200 (gpu/ddr respectly)
6- Vualah!, monitored with GPUZ while gaming and now i'm getting very nice frames per second.
7- tested with spec ops the line and crysis 2, my performance is very impressive, i dont had time enough to calculate the frames for you guys, but i can tell us that, the performance is very good! Spec ops i had maxed out on native 1366 x768 and i dont see any lag while playng .
Crysis 2 on high settings and i think it at least 40fps
Very nice!!!! my pain is gone!
I think it can help other peoples like me.
This forum is awesome, nice to meet you guys will keep here doing my best to help you on our mobile story.
Notebooks owns! ~~~
EDIT: already solved my problem but..... still hating Optimus technology , its a BIG FAIL.
Its always best control gpu cards / clocks or anything manually, it works like i want. -
Set the PhysX to auto, it's better that way.
I don't know if that 630M is a Kepler or Fermi (in my case, it's fermi), but mine is Fermi and I don't have the boost clock feature
Wait, 900MHz GPU and 1200MHz memory? Can you run a 20-min FURMARK burn in with something like SuperPi/PRIME95 on the background? Because my 630M is maxed at 810/1099 and I don't think you can go higher than a little over 820 if you have a good silicon sample
But I'm glad your problems is resolved -
I doesnt remenber now which core based is my 630m is but....
I started to monitor again and my problem is back... after all this time searching about this, my last chance is to edit the video bios, to cut down this throtle.
Someone can help me doiing this? i never tried it on a notebook.... This "boost" feature socks, because dont work.
I can tell u the boost just works after the first power on of the machine, after 30 minutes turned on, the boost auto disable, and the clock locks on 671... this socks.......
someone can help me? i really apreciate any help, and tryng to fix my clock on 800 mhz.
The difference on games is high, 671 vs 800
3dmark06 @ 671= 9400
3dmark06.@ 800 = 10800
lol? -
Run throttlestop with BD Prochot and all other features disabled, and with CPU settings locked @100% and multiplier @Turbo (i dunno if it will help, but it got my clock from 797 to 810)
Very strange, my N43 doesn't have boost like you do though. Mind posting a GPU-z verification link? -
I dont know how to run this utility, can you help me where i cand find this ?
New lap2go drivers avaiable, 304.79 someone tested?
I'm working now, can't take a gpuz link, but i will do this as soon i can my friend.
I dont know why, nvidia do this.... maybe core i7/i5 doesnt have a thermal solution effectively yet....
But my clock currently working on this way, when i start the system for the first time, the clocks still correct (800mhz), while gaming, still 800~700 swtching but i cant see performance decrease.
When i quit from the game, and use the system for some time, the gpu clock locks on 671, and even if i start a hard game, it still working like this....
I cant understand.... the temps are well.... this works exactly how i said.
Monitoring the temps while gaming at the first boot, 85C.
When the system go to idle , it keeps 40C
When i start games again, it keeps 671 MHZ... with 70C
Someone could understand that S**** -
I'm also DLing the driver you mentioned. Just started
You can find throttlestop here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...arket-upgrades/531329-throttlestop-guide.html
Disable everything except EIST. Set CMod and Clock mod to 100%, then set Multiplier to Turbo.
After you finished all of that, click "Save" and hit "Apply", you must run this utility at all times
You can also try the installation guide + tweaks by Kingpinzero here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...pdate-nvidia-drivers-any-windows-version.html -
First of all, thank you Mobius for your attention.
Hm, i reinstalled 296.37 original Dell drivers, The throotlestop, for some reason ( dont know why), dont switched anything on my clocks, (CPU or GPU).
I think this tool is very outdated, and didnt suppoprt ivy bridge platforms, ( i have a i7 3612QM 3rd generation).
I don't know why, like i told you before,
When i turn on my computer, and use it, play games etc... the clock works normally, 672 with boost working for 800 mhz on demand, i dont see lags, even with CPU turbo boost throotle automatic enabled.
But... if i cut down the power AC cable, then, the notebook locks the gpu clock to 672, and dont boost anymore... even if i connect the AC adapter again... and i have to shutdown and turn on the computer to back to normal.
Just for remenber, ALL my profiles, (nvidia, Intel, windows, BIOS ETC ETC ETC) all still on high performance...
I don't know how can i fix this.... but at least i'm now know how my problem occurs , and i know now how it happens. -
Ah, it's because the nvidia GPU can not be overclocked when running on battery, the CPU turbo boost cannot be enabled also.
The throttlestop v 5.00 beta 3 supports IVB and HM7x series mobile chipsets, download the beta instead of 4.10
The my 630M locks at 671 at battery, but can be overclocked when plugged in again.
Have you tried contacting the dell support if all methods fail? -
Good idea, but..... you know what the guys from dell support will say abt that.... they even know what is the correct clocks of a 630m gt......they will tell something like... "the machine has a built in oem card , we made the clocks to work trough this way, so...... just accept"
EDIT@ Contacted dell support, Tried to open a ticket to a possible BIOS upgrade fix for this problem, related all above situation and the Customer care idiots just said: Sir, this is not a problem, something more that i can help you?
I just told him, Nope idiot BOT, you just a idiot from customer care, and i want to talk with some engineeer support... He just repeatly the samething and ended call.
We are better than this idiots, i will continue to try solving this problem, if anyone has a dell machine 14R with a 630M GT just send me a pm and lets try to fix this for Dell support.
I suggested a possible fix to Dell and they just said i'm a idiot.
Tnx dell.
Dell support = just bots, they follow scripts to solve idiot problems like, Wifi doesnt connect, slow machine, no sound, and idiot things like that. -
For the life of me, I can't get the boost on my GT620M to stay on... When I first start games, it comes on and my core speed is 873, but then after a few minutes, it goes back down to 625. The only way to make it go back up is to restart the game or alt-tab the game. Wonder if any of you guys had some insight on this.
P.S. I am using the latest Nvidia beta drivers 304.79. -
Hi Mobius, thank you very much for this topic, it gives hope
! My laptop is an asus n76 and its using a geforce 630M same as you and I'm really impressed by the résults you obtained, bu I cant find the right .inf... Could you post the one you used ? Hope it'll work ! Thx again
-
I got my drivers here: v305.53 Windows 7/Vista 64bit | nvidia - 30x Series GeForce Driver release - LaptopVideo2Go Forums
I downloaded the driver and INF modified. Then I unzip the driver which results in a folder, inside the folder will be the setup.exe and one folder named "display.driver". You must copy and replace the .inf inside the "display.driver" with the modified one that you downloaded.
Good luck! -
Thx for your answer, should do it !
-
My GT620M doesn't have a P2 profile and I can't find a modded bios file for it. Do you know how to take a system dump so I can upload it on to the thread?
-
Also, I noticed that no matter what I set my offset at, my core speed won't go higher than 873 Mhz. I can literally set the core speed to 2 Ghz in NvidiaInspector and it still stays at 873 Mhz...
